Ash's POV
"Ember," the voice called again through the wooden door. "I know you're in there. We need to talk."
I knew that voice. It was Cade.
My heart pounded like a drum in my chest. Was he here to help us or hurt us? After what happened at the cabin, I couldn't be sure about anything anymore.
"What do you want?" I called back, keeping my voice steady.
"To keep you all safe," Cade answered. "My father is coming with the whole pack. They want the babies, Ash. They want to take them away from her."
Behind me, Ember made a small sound of fear. She was getting weaker by the minute. The blood loss was making her skin pale as winter snow.
"How do I know you're not lying?" I asked.
"Because I'm alone right now, and I could have brought ten warriors with me."
Dr. Chen checked Ember's pulse again and shook her head. She needed help soon, or we were going to lose her.
I had to make a choice. Trust my cousin or fight him too.
