c36 – The Concept of Super Saiyan Five
"I told you guys, are you dizzy? We can use the Dragon Balls! Wouldn't that be enough to bring Goku back from the Other World?"
Just when everyone was at their wits' end, Bulma spoke up.
When she thought of Son Goku, Bulma remembered the very first time they met when he was a naïve boy living alone in Mount Paozu and she was searching for the Dragon Balls with her radar. Now, decades later, there was only one way to bring Goku back to Earth again: to summon Shenron and make a wish.
"That's right! We can make a wish on the Dragon Balls!" shouted Son Gohan, slapping his forehead as realization struck.
The mystical dragon had revived Goku and countless others before surely its power could pull him back even from Hell.
"Goten, the two of us will find the Dragon Balls together," Gohan declared.
"You guys stay here and protect everyone," he added, turning to Pan and Trunks.
"Okay, Dad! We'll hold things down here, just bring Grandpa back!" Pan replied, clenching her fists with determination.

Meanwhile, on an unknown planet…
Inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the mysterious warrior Lin Hao sat cross-legged in meditation. His ki flared faintly around him, dark crimson waves marking the peak of Super Saiyan 4. He had already reached the utmost limit of that transformation, and now stood on the verge of transcending it—to achieve the legendary Super Saiyan Five.
To attain that form, one needed absolute emotional mastery control over murderous intent, sorrow, and rage. Only by balancing these extreme emotions could the transformation be realized.
According to the extended Dragon Ball AF storyline, the original Son Gohan reached this state by accident. During his fierce battle with Aize, a descendant of Frieza, Pan was slain before his eyes. Overcome with unbearable grief and fury, Gohan's power exploded beyond Super Saiyan 4, and he ascended into the uncharted realm of Super Saiyan Five.
The Old Supreme Kai later explained that Gohan's awakening came from an "abnormal surge of hatred and emotional overload," causing his dormant Saiyan genes to unlock their deepest potential. However, such a transformation was incomplete, it placed a tremendous strain on both body and mind.
This unstable version of Super Saiyan Five consumed energy at a deadly rate, and its duration was said to last barely ten minutes before the user risked total cellular collapse.
In other words, the Super Saiyan Five achieved by Gohan in Dragon Ball AF was an imperfect, unstable evolution a glimpse of what true mastery over Saiyan emotion could unleash.
The Super Saiyan Five transformation achieved by Son Goku is almost perfect. By consciously balancing the four core emotions joy, anger, sorrow, and serenity he extends the duration of the form while eliminating the crushing strain that once burdened both mind and body.
Lin Hao's theory is that if he himself can ascend to Super Saiyan Five, he would stand on equal footing with the Gods of Destruction. This speculation is not without basis.
In the original Dragon Ball Z, when Goku first transformed into a Super Saiyan on Planet Namek, his power eclipsed even that of Frieza's final form. Yet later, as Dragon Ball Super revealed, the classic Super Saiyan levels—One, Two, and Three no longer reigned supreme. The focus shifted toward divine transformations such as Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, which carried a distinctly divine ki signature.
This marked a qualitative leap beyond mortal energy. Super Saiyan God and Blue belonged to the divine realm of power, their aura calm yet immeasurably dense. However, in essence, both remained extensions of the Super Saiyan lineage forms imbued with godly ki rather than raw evolutionary growth.
A careful observer notices that while Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue emanate divine energy, their combat efficiency is not absolute. For instance, throughout Dragon Ball Super, Goku in Blue form often fought to a stalemate whether against Golden Frieza, Hit of Universe 6, or even Jiren's suppressed state rarely gaining a decisive upper hand. Hence Lin Hao believes these divine forms represent an aesthetic of controlled power, not its ultimate expression. They are undeniably stronger than Super Saiyan 3, yet still bounded by divine ki limitations.
The Super Saiyan Five, however, follows a different evolutionary path. It is a primal awakening, a return to the Saiyan race's ancient roots an evolution forward through regression. The form channels the latent power of the Great Ape (Ōzaru) while maintaining complete consciousness, merging the wild instinct of the ancestors with the discipline of the modern Saiyan.
In Dragon Ball lore, Saiyans call themselves the strongest warrior race in the universe. This title originates from their ancestral might. Legends suggest that the earliest Saiyans those who once ruled Planet Sadal before migrating to Planet Vegeta possessed energy rivaling the gods themselves.
Evidence of that ancestral power can be seen through Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan. In Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, he overwhelmed five combined Super Saiyans led by Goku using sheer brute force. Later, in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, his base and Wrathful states already exceeded Super Saiyan God, and his uncontrolled Legendary form battled evenly against Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, forcing them to fuse into Gogeta Blue to subdue him.
Lin Hao muses: if Broly were ever to master transformations beyond Super Saiyan 3, his raw Saiyan potential might surpass even Ultra Instinct Goku or Evolved Blue Vegeta. From this perspective, the true Saiyan path lies not in borrowing godly ki but in amplifying innate Saiyan essence the evolution of body and spirit to their absolute apex.
Thus, the Super Saiyan Five form represents the genuine continuation of the Saiyan bloodline, not a derivative of divine power. Its strength, drawn from the primitive life force of the race, undergoes a qualitative shift with each higher breakthrough. Such power can indeed transcend even divine realms, proving that the so-called "realm of gods" is not the final boundary. (Personal theory only no comments!!)
"Phew… your body has reached its optimal condition," Lin Hao murmured to himself. "It's time to see if I can truly break through to Super Saiyan Five."
He slowly rose from his cross-legged posture in midair.
"Ding dong! The host has accumulated a two-month sign-in. Would you like to sign in now?" chimed the familiar system voice.
"Oh, another two months already? Time flows strangely here," Lin Hao replied. "I wonder how things are on Earth right now."
Stepping out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he stretched and immediately sensed the planet's ki signatures. Among them, one dark and violent aura stood out clashing against Goku's energy.
"This evil ki… it's identical to Android 17's. So the Super Android 17 arc must be unfolding. Hmph, I'll leave that one to Goku."
Satisfied, Lin Hao retrieved a Capsule Corp. capsule, tossed it to the ground, and a compact house expanded instantly. Entering, he began preparing a quick meal to restore stamina before his breakthrough attempt.
"Alright," he said between bites, "let's handle the sign-in first. System begin."
"Ding dong! Sign-in successful!"
"Congratulations to the host for acquiring the skill: Flash Time Kung Fu, a technique that allows a 0.1-second time jump, scalable with mastery."
"Flash Time Kung Fu? Isn't that the move used by Hit, the legendary assassin from Universe 6?" Lin Hao raised an eyebrow. "A good skill, but only 0.1 seconds? That's barely useful. It'll need serious improvement."
He stroked his chin thoughtfully. Despite his initial disappointment, his eyes gleamed with curiosity this technique, if refined, could be the key to synchronizing his time perception with the energy flow of Super Saiyan Five.
Outside, the faint tremor of Goku's battle echoed across the distance, while within the capsule house, Lin Hao's golden aura began to flicker once more, heralding the dawn of a new Saiyan transformation.
