c40 — Lin Hao Arrives
Just as in the original story, Son Goku and his granddaughter Pan (Xiaofang) set out on their journey to recover the corrupted Dragon Balls and defeat the Shadow Dragons.
The Two-Star Dragon (Rage Shenron), Oceanus Shenron, and Naturon Shenron were defeated without much difficulty by Goku and Pan, but the fight against Nuova Shenron, the Four-Star Dragon of Fire, was far from easy.
Because Goku and Nuova Shenron's powers were nearly equal, neither could quickly gain the upper hand. Their clash had reached a critical point when the battle was suddenly interrupted.
"Wha—what's happening!?"
Goku shouted as a wave of freezing energy suddenly enveloped his right arm, coating it in solid ice.
"This technique…!"
Seeing the frost spread, Nuova Shenron's expression changed instantly. He turned sharply toward the source of the attack, his fiery aura flickering.
Sure enough, perched atop a ruined building stood a tall, blue-skinned figure with thick lips, sleek armor-like hide, and small icy wings glimmering behind his back.
It was Eis Shenron—the Three-Star Shadow Dragon, and the elder brother of Nuova Shenron.
"B-big brother!"
Nuova Shenron's eyes widened in shock as he recognized him.
"What? His brother…?"
Goku blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected that the Shadow Dragons shared any familial ties at all.
"Hmph. You're still as soft-hearted as ever, Nuova!" Eis Shenron sneered. "Watching you hesitate makes me sick!"
"Stay out of this, Eis! This is my fight with Son Goku!" Nuova Shenron snapped angrily, flames flaring around him.
"Oh? So you admit it, you two really are brothers!" Goku said, astonished despite himself.
"Yes. He is my elder brother—Eis Shenron, the Ice Dragon!" Nuova confirmed.
"I see… I didn't think even Shadow Dragons had family bonds!" Goku muttered, narrowing his eyes.
"So, you're Son Goku," Eis said with a smirk. "The Dragon Balls you collected earlier—are now mine!"
He bent down, snatching up a small blue backpack from the ground and tossing it into his hand with mocking ease.
"That… that's Pan's backpack! What did you do to her!?" Goku shouted, his face darkening with fury.
"Humph!" Eis Shenron didn't bother replying. Instead, he turned his gaze downward toward the rubble below.
There, Pan lay slumped against a cracked wall, blood dripping from the corner of her mouth. Her body was battered and bruised, her energy nearly spent.
Seeing Pan's weakened form, Goku's heart clenched. He dived down, catching her just as she began to collapse.
"Grandpa… I'm sorry… the Dragon Ball was taken…" Pan whispered faintly before losing consciousness.
"Pan! Wake up!"
Goku's voice trembled as his rage exploded outward, golden sparks flashing around his body.
"Damn you, Eis Shenron! How dare you hurt Pan like this!"
"Hmph!"
Eis Shenron smirked, utterly unfazed by Goku's fury. His icy aura shimmered ominously in the air.
"Nuova Shenron," he ordered coldly, "take the Dragon Ball. I'll finish Son Goku myself."
With that, he tossed the blue backpack toward his brother and slowly descended from the sky, an evil smile spreading across his face.
But how could Nuova Shenron heed Eis Shenron's words? He descended from the air to block his brother, and soon the two Shadow Dragons began arguing heatedly.
"Hey, hey—stop bickering! If you two want to fight so badly, how about taking me on instead?"
A calm yet familiar voice echoed through the ruined city.
"Who said that!?"
"Huh? This voice…" Goku turned, scanning the area. His eyes widened when he spotted Lin Hao leaning casually against a cracked wall in the corner.
"Lin Hao! You finally made it!" Goku exclaimed.
"Yeah," Lin Hao replied with a grin. "It's been ages since I've been back to Earth, and so much chaos has erupted that I couldn't just stand by any longer!"
"Wait," Goku said, surprised, "didn't the Supreme Kai say the planet's surrounded by negative energy? How did you even get in?"
"How?" Lin Hao smirked. "The same way you do everything, Goku—by forcing my way through! A little negative energy isn't enough to stop me."
Seeing Lin Hao and Goku chatting so casually, Eis Shenron's temper boiled over.
Tch… unbelievable! he thought bitterly. I finally make my grand appearance, and this nobody steals my spotlight?
His pride wounded, Eis Shenron snapped, glaring at Lin Hao. "Hey, kid! Who do you think you are? Don't you realize we're in the middle of a battle with Son Goku?"
"Me?" Lin Hao said evenly, stepping forward as his aura flared. "All you need to know is that I'm the one who's going to defeat you. Everything else is irrelevant."
"The one who'll defeat me?" Eis Shenron sneered. "Interesting. Sounds like you've got a death wish. Allow me to grant it!"
With that, Eis Shenron thrust his right hand forward, firing a stream of blinding, icy energy that instantly froze the air around it.
But Lin Hao didn't flinch. A glowing sphere of ki formed in his palm, and he hurled it straight toward the incoming frost.
"BOOM!"
The two attacks collided midair, detonating in a roaring explosion that sent shockwaves across the battlefield. Both Goku and Nuova Shenron were forced back as chunks of debris rained down.
When the smoke cleared, Lin Hao stood unscathed amid swirling dust. "Not bad," he said calmly. "But if you think you can beat me with cheap tricks like that, forget it, Eis Shenron."
"Damn it…" Eis Shenron growled, realizing the newcomer's power was far beyond what he'd expected. "This guy's energy… it's not normal!"
"Goku!" Lin Hao called out. "Keep your focus on Nuova Shenron. Leave Eis Shenron to me. Finish your fight quickly."
He reached into his pouch and tossed two Senzu Beans toward him.
"Thanks, Lin Hao! You really came through," Goku said gratefully. He gave one bean to Pan, then swallowed the other himself.
"Uh… wh-what's this feeling?"
Pan stirred weakly, her injuries instantly vanishing. Her eyes fluttered open as she realized she was lying in her grandfather's arms.
"Pan, you're awake," Goku said softly.
"Grandpa… what happened?"
"You were attacked by Eis Shenron," Goku explained. "If it weren't for Lin Hao's Senzu Beans, I don't know when you would've come to."
"Lin Hao…?" Pan murmured. She turned her head and saw him walking forward, his aura flaring silver as he faced Eis Shenron head-on, ready to battle.
