Chapter 5 - Money

After Elekid had calmed down, it also started sleeping, leaving poor Haruki at a loss for words. Haruki grumbled something about being sleep-deprived because of gremlins and went back to sleep.

In around three hours, it was already eight in the morning. Haruki woke up and saw Elekid sleeping beside him, so he woke him up and said to the annoyed yellow Pokémon, "I will be going outside for a few things I have to do, please don't cause trouble." Elekid just glared at him and pouted with dissatisfaction, his eyes still sleepy.

Seeing this, Haruki added, "I have heard that mature Elekids are very calm and collected, so you wouldn't really cause trouble? Right?" Hearing this, Elekid just nodded and went back to sleep.

After getting ready, Haruki went outside and back to the Pokémon items' shop, selling his Pokéblocks and getting around 16k from them after deducting the bribe money.

Since he wasn't registered as a member of the league and as a Pokémon trainer, he wanted to get that done first in order to utilize facilities without having to use illegal measures, since being caught doing so would result in a fine, or even worse.

Usually, a person had to pay 10k for a Pokémon trainer's license and 1k to be registered as a member of The League, which had many privileges.

As he entered the League facility after passing by the rather weak-looking guards, he went to one of the clerks who, on seeing him, sweetly said, "Hello sir, how may I help you?"

Haruki replied by saying, "I want to be registered as a League member and as a Pokémon trainer."

The receptionist said, "You would need to pay the fees of 11k Pokédollars upfront, sir."

Haruki took out the cash and placed it on the table calmly, knowing that in such a facility, he would not be robbed.

The clerk appeared calm on the surface but internally was confused as to why a person like Haruki, who was wearing good-quality clothes and seemed to have a refined temperament as well as money, was not already a league member, and how, despite probably having a rich family, he was not in a League Pokémon Schooling Program even though he seemed to want to become a Pokémon trainer.

She quickly "realized" that Haruki was someone who was probably going against the wishes of his elders, who did not want him to be in such a dangerous and dark profession.

She said to Haruki, "Child, you should not disobey your elders and have such a risky profession at such a young age."

Haruki guessed the general direction in which she was thinking and replied by saying, "I am an orphan."

The clerk was taken aback by his response, but she did not press him further because she was required to do her job. She reluctantly took the money, kept it in a drawer, and took out a device with which she took a photo of his face. Then she said to Haruki, "All right, can you tell me your name and prick your hand with this needle for a bit of blood to verify a few things?" She added, "You need to drop a bit of blood here," gesturing towards the place where the blood needed to be dropped.

Haruki replied, "My name is Haruki Amagiri," and he did as instructed.

After a while, the clerk mumbled, "It seems that you have no recorded ancestry… quite strange."

"Anyway, you are now officially a league member and Pokémon trainer," she said as she handed him two documents and IDs. "If you lose them, you will need to pay for the replacements," she added, and Haruki nodded. He was about to head back when she reminded him, "Please don't do anything reckless just because you are a trainer." Haruki, hearing this again, nodded his head and headed towards the berry shop he had gone to the previous day.

There, he purchased berries that would enable him to make recovery Pokéblocks and some low-level Pokéblocks for his Elekid. He also headed to a nearby vegetable shop to buy some vegetables for himself. This expenditure left his pockets nearly empty, with only 1k Pokédollars left.

He had to take a cab since all he bought was too heavy for the little guy to carry. He specified to the driver beforehand that he would need help in getting some things to his room as well, and the driver readily agreed.

As he returned to the hotel, he paid the receptionist 600 Pokédollars, asking her to extend the duration for the stay in room 97, allowing him to spend three more days in the hotel.

The cab driver kept the things outside the room and went away after being paid. Haruki entered the room, saw a still-sleeping Elekid, and dragged the things inside with great difficulty.

He started preparing some low-quality Pokéblocks for Elekid, and after a while, the little gremlin also woke up as he smelled something good.

Haruki did not want to restrict Elekid in eating food but also did not want Elekid to suffer from overeating, and so he made sure to only give the right amount of food to Elekid. After gobbling up the food while Haruki prepared more Pokéblocks, Elekid reached for more, but Haruki told him that eating more of his Pokéblocks would make his stomach burst open.

Elekid, ever the innocent child, bought into it and ran away from the Pokéblocks as if they were some evil poison.

Haruki only chuckled after seeing that and told Elekid to start running in the room if he wanted to hear any new stories, and Elekid happily started running around.

In this manner, Elekid either rested or did exercises that did not involve using his magical attacks till the evening, listening to stories that Haruki told him. Haruki also meditated in order to compensate for the lack of using any magical attacks.

Haruki also made Pokéblocks and his own food, and only finished the berries at around 5 p.m.
