Chapter 8 - The Opportunity

Haruki followed the routine of earning money and using it up for training for around 2 months. He made sure to buy berries and sell Pokéblocks at different stores in order to not attract much attention as well.

He also kept up with the news in order to look for any opportunities or know what to beware of.

His aura powers had a lot of progress as well. Despite his sensing range not improving much, he was able to easily sense things more thoroughly in a 100m radius around him. His aura capacity also improved a lot, and he could deal a bit of damage by sending a lot of aura at one place, even though it was extremely inefficient to do so.

However, Elekid had now become level 11 with balanced stats. He also had decent control of his electricity — very good for someone of his level and power.

This was, however, not the thing Haruki was concerned about at the moment, since he had heard the news about Wallace, the son of the Sootopolis City gym leader, wanting to create a new sport called Pokémon Contest, in which the trainers emphasize the beauty of their Pokémon, and his wish to be the best at it.

This was a great opportunity for Haruki, who could perhaps approach Wallace and, after getting to know his character, decide whether to sell him some mid-quality Pokéblocks or not, since Wallace was rich and perhaps he would be willing to spend money on Pokéblocks that enhanced the beauty of Pokémon.

After all, even the top-grade Pokéblocks were generally not meant for the purpose of enhancing the beauty of the Pokémon by having effects like reducing scars and improving the quality of the skin.

However, this could go extremely wrong depending on what Wallace did with the fact of Haruki being at least an intermediate breeder. This is why Haruki would first try to understand his character before selling him his Pokéblocks or even revealing the fact that he is an intermediate breeder.

He got to know that Wallace would be answering questions and saw it as the perfect opportunity to meet him, and before that, listen to what his answers were to the questions that he was asked.

He booked League teleportation services online and, before that, got himself a phone and a phone number, something which he might require. He also purchased some berries which he thought could be used in order to create beauty.

His initial combinations were wrong, but after nearly half a day of work and skipping Elekid's training, he successfully made medium-quality Pokéblocks which would enhance the beauty of a Pokémon. He also modified it a bit in order for it to give less energy and more beauty effects.

After some more hard work, the Pokéblocks would ensure minimal energy gain while maximum beauty gain and could thus work in tandem with top-level Pokéblocks, which would probably be used by Wallace since perhaps no one who was capable would choose beauty over strength in this world.

He then got some rest before waking up and going outside the hotel. The one who would escort him to Driftport City also appeared outside the hotel, and the total time for the teleporting and letting the teleporting Pokémon have some rest was around 30 minutes. Driftport City was the city where Wallace was staying at and the city where he would have his press conference.

He booked a hotel in the city and did light aura training himself while his Elekid did other exercises for the next 1.5 hours, and then he got to the area where Wallace would have his press conference. It was filled with people. He met with some news reporter and politely asked, "Hello, will you be attending the press conference, sir?"

The reporter, seeing the cute boy, said, "Yes, I will be attending it. Are you perhaps a fan of Wallace?"

Haruki replied by saying, "Yes sir, I am indeed his fan. I can pay you in order to let me attend the press conference."

Haruki, if Wallace was really a decent person, would make a lot of money by selling him the Pokéblocks, but if he wasn't... it wouldn't be that big of a loss.

This is why Haruki was seen taking out around 10k Pokédollars and giving them to the boss of a news reporter.

This is how Haruki got into the building where Wallace was doing his press conference.

For Haruki, the first relevant question which was asked was, "Why do you want to create this new sport?"

Wallace replied by saying, "It is actually that I want trainers and Pokémon to bond without battles. I personally appreciate the beauty of a Pokémon and want others to appreciate it more as well, which would be facilitated by these contests. Elegance and presentation, after all, are things that I like a lot."

This answer was good for Haruki as well, since Haruki could see that Wallace was not lying by detecting no micro expression on his face that convinced him otherwise.

Another question that a reporter asked Wallace that was also important to Haruki was, "Do you have the intention of gaining influence by these contests?"

The surprising reply of Wallace to this question was a simple no.

This convinced Haruki that revealing himself to Wallace would not really prove to be lethal, but other important factors included him being one of the few that would give such a good offer to Wallace, him subtly deterring Wallace from trying anything funny, and lastly, the fact that Wallace did not really lack the money that the sale of some intermediate Pokéblocks would bring.

Wallace also probably had good, or at least not bad, moral values from what Haruki understood after listening to his answers.

Haruki, in the end, would not try to make claims about having an old master behind him, since that fact would easily be crossed off after anyone with some power did any investigation.
