Chapter 9 - The Partner

Haruki, in order to be allowed a private meeting with Wallace waited around and when he had an opportunity, said to Wallace, "Sir, I am a big fan of yours. I also want to be a Pokémon coordinator in these Pokémon contests, and I want to show you my Pokémon and ask for advice."

Wallace, seeing a young fan who did not look threatening at all, agreed to the request, since he understood that some people may be insecure about showing their Pokémon publicly, as they might have good Pokémon but not the strength to protect them.

Haruki also understood that, since most people would not take him seriously, no one would look for him merely for his Pokémon.

After a bit of waiting, the press conference was over, and Wallace took Haruki away with him to a nearby hotel after escaping through the back door.

Wallace then took Haruki to a room and said, "Please sit down, make yourself comfortable, child."

Haruki did so and after making sure no one other than Wallace and his Milotic seemed to be there, he said, "Sir, do you have any Pokéblocks that enhance the beauty of a Pokémon?"

Wallace, not thinking that this would be the first question Haruki asked, was a bit confused but snapped out of it quickly and said, "No, I don't have any such Pokéblocks. In fact, I don't really think they can be made, and even if they can be made... I don't think they would be worth it or effective for you."

Haruki, expecting such an answer, said, "I can make such Pokéblocks, sir. I can show you how I make them and give you a constant supply of these. They would also, in no way, affect the development of your Pokémon since they will have a very low amount of energy in them, so you will still be able to maximize the development of your Pokémon by giving them top-quality Pokéblocks."

"My beauty Pokéblocks are of intermediate quality," Haruki added.

Wallace, now completely flabbergasted, since there was no way, according to him, for a child who looked about 10 to make low-quality Pokéblocks, let alone intermediate-quality ones, thought the child might be there to waste his time or perhaps fool him. He took a Pokéblock in his hand and, after seeing it, concluded that it had way less energy than even a beginner-level Pokéblock, which he found quite strange. However, he still did not believe that a child could create even a low-level Pokéblock.

He said, "Okay, can you just make some normal intermediate-quality Pokéblocks in front of me, please?" fully expecting the child to make up some excuses. But surprisingly, the child replied, "Okay, but I would need a kitchen in order to do that."

Wallace then led Haruki to the kitchen in the hotel, and Haruki, after thanking him, took some berries and materials out of his bag and started creating the Pokéblocks.

Wallace, after seeing how Haruki was skillfully making the Pokéblocks, fell into self-doubt, thinking that his father was indeed correct when he called him useless.

He mentally remarked, "This kid is a monster... how can he even..."

After finishing the Pokéblocks, Haruki presented them to Wallace, who did not need to ask a Pokémon to inspect them since he had seen the materials used to craft them.

Now, wanting to build a good relationship with this "monster," Wallace said, "Excellent job, child. Can you explain to me more about your beauty Pokéblocks?" as he gestured for Haruki to follow him back to the living room.

Haruki said, "They provide a very low amount of energy and so they can be used in tandem with top-quality Pokéblocks. Thus, they would not interfere with the strength gain and health of a Pokémon, even improving the health a bit by taking care of dead cells.

"They would also smoothen the skin and bring out the color of a Pokémon more. They would reduce skin blemishes and provide the Pokémon with better skin overall. About one Pokéblock per 10 kg of the Pokémon's weight would suffice, and the effect of using the Pokéblocks in the recommended quantity should be visible after eating them," Haruki added.

The eyes of Wallace were practically twinkling with stars as he asked, "I have a Luvdisc, Wailmer, and Milotic. The total of their weights is around 300 kg. Please tell me how much it costs you to make a Pokéblock."

Haruki said, "It costs me around 500 Pokédollars to make a single Pokéblock since it is naturally dense with herbs and other items. So I will be spending around 45k Pokédollars for your Pokéblocks every month."

Wallace replied, "All right, I can pay you 600k every month for your Pokéblocks. Of course, the price is negotiable," fully expecting Haruki to haggle. But the child surprised him by saying, "Okay sir, that is a good price."

"Please keep it a secret that I am selling these Pokéblocks to you since I have no backer and I am perhaps one of the few people who can give you such a good offer. However, I still refuse to work for anyone who is being unfair to me, and I believe I am capable of that given my willpower, which has been tempered by my experiences," Haruki said, knowing that Wallace would readily agree and not try to misuse the information.

Wallace, after hearing what Haruki said, felt like crying without tears. He mentally cried, "He is like this without a teacher. Oh my god, I was always dissatisfied when my father cursed at me, but now I feel like he was rather nice to me." But then he remembered the second half of Haruki's sentence.

After remembering it, he asked, "What experiences have you had exactly, and what is your name and age? I'm sorry for forgetting to ask that due to your extremely surprising qualities at such a young age." He also noted the extremely surprising amount of knowledge about worldly affairs the boy had and his maturity.

Haruki replied, "I was not raised with delicate care... Let's just leave it at that. Also, my name is Haruki Amagiri, sir."

Wallace decided to run a background check on Haruki when he had time and said, "It is a pleasure to do business with you, Haruki. When will the Pokéblocks be ready, and can they be improved?"

Haruki replied, "The pleasure is all mine. Also, the Pokéblocks cannot be improved to make the Pokémon even more beautiful, but they can be improved to make them stronger. However, my Pokéblocks can be used in tandem with top-quality ones in order to have that effect."

Haruki was sure that no one else would be able to create beauty Pokéblocks as quickly as he did and he did not believe that the Pokéblocks anyone else made would have a better effect when working in tandem with normal top-quality ones.
