Alina's POV
The SUV didn't slow down for the rest of the way. I leaned back into my seat, letting out a long sigh. Today had been so exhausting. I couldn't wait to soak in a warm bath or at least have something to eat.
My hand on Charmaine's wrist wasn't forced off, which was a surprise. The dim streetlights that illuminated the streets gave off an eerie vibe. I had no idea where the car was heading, but it looked like we were out of civilization.
I pulled my gaze from the road and back to Charmaine. Her face had gone pale, and blood had started seeping out of her wound once more. She didn't flinch in pain and just stayed still. Her gaze was cold and unsettled. Deep down, it bothered me more than the gunfight had.
After an hour of driving, we finally stopped in front of a tall building that looked nothing like a house. It looked like a safe house. The fences built around it had barbed wires fixed on the wall.
