Alina's pov
I stared at Charmaine wide-eyed, the masked man in front of us had his eyes wide open as he picked off in an opposite direction. Weird, grabbing Charmaine's hand, tears welling up in my eyes.
"Why didn't you pay more attention? You actually got hurt!" I scolded. Blood ran down her hand as she stared at me. Her eyes softened very briefly before tearing her gaze away.
"It's my duty to protect you. Me getting hurt doesn't really matter. Let's go."
She casually brushed me off, ignoring her wound as we walked out of the storage room. Her bleeding hand trembled slightly, but she kept a straight face and stared ahead.
Her getting hurt mattered to me. A lot.
I followed closely behind her, afraid that if I stepped away for a bit, she'd collapse. As we walked further away from the villa, the sound of gunshots and screams turned distant. But the smell of blood and smoke made me feel uneasy.
