Chapter 10 - — Magic

Arthur closed his eyes shut and put a silent command through his mind. To sort through the library of memories in his head. It put a strain on his already tired mind. But he was able to condense all of the memories of draconic magic into a single book. Arthur opened the book and looked through it. There he found several hundred spells. But only stopped reading at the interesting ones.

The first ones he found were the black flames of destruction and the white flames of purification. They were versatile, and being able to learn both would be incredibly useful, and erased the need for healing potions. While the black flames were a gamble that slowly ate away at the body of its user, the white flames could be used simultaneously, to heal the body. But they were difficult to learn, and applying two opposite concepts at the same time could destroy his mind. For now, the blue flames of calamity he found in the book would be of most use to him. As the brand of his back seemed to be suited more for calamity magic. Though he was more interested in other things.

He started by studying the draconic rune of time. He first had to learn how to weave runes out of magic. He started to learn how to condense pure mana. Straight from his core. He started by creating a ball of fire. And attempted to remove the aspect of fire. Although his first attempt just made the entire ball disappear all together.

'Hm...this is...difficult. Removing an entire element from something isn't exactly something to scoff at. But...I could try just conjuring a ball of no element...instead of trying to remove it.'

After focusing in a bit on his core he managed to separate a ball of pure mana. Although it took considerable willpower. He could feel his brain crumbling under the pressure from manifesting the library. He decided to wake up instead of wasting any more brain power.

'...if I can learn this type of power...then I won't even need Revan anymore...I didn't plan on keeping her along anyways. I need to venture somewhere else, and she'd just be a liability, especially if I can be this powerful...'

He got up from the bed and made his way towards the door. Finding Revan standing right outside it. Her raven colored locks swaying slightly as her crimson eyes pierced through him.

"I can tell you're gonna say something stupid. So save it for now. Your ass has been asleep for two days."

"...alright then. Did those other mages end up surviving?"

She shook her head before sighing slightly. "Nope. The explosion destroyed them completely. I don't know how you survived. There wasn't even a single trace of them left."

Arthur looked towards her for a few seconds. And stared at her.

"Are you being serious?"

"Yes, Arthur, I'm being serious. Why would I lie about something like that?" Revan had an odd look on her face, Arthur could tell she was focused on something else that didn't involve their current topic of conversation.

"...yeah. Sorry." They walked out of the inn. As they walked Arthur stopped. And so did Revan, it was like she knew exactly what was going to happen.

"...Revan we need to..."

"Go our separate ways? Yeah. I know."

'How did she...whatever.'

"Yeah. I have something I need to do. So...just go home. I'll come back once I'm done."

"...why are you lying?" She stared deadpan at him. Clearly not amused. Her arms crossed across her chest. "I know you're not coming back anytime soon. You don't have to lie to me. So just go and do whatever you have to do. And I'll do what I have to do. Dumbass."

She scoffed and turned the other way. Storming off with the belongings she brought.

'Why is she so mad...? If she knew this was going to happen...then she would've at least prepared a bit...whatever.'

He made his way to the outskirts of the town. Walking past the crater that replaced the abandoned magic tower. He looked across the vast plain. Looking towards the tall mountain range in the far distance. It's peak shrouded by a storm.

'The abyssal mountains...thats where I must go...'
