He met eye to the eye with the obsidian gaze of the knight as it picked up its sword and dragged it towards him. It leaned down to level height with Arthur, and stared at him for a moment.
'Huh…it doesn't seem hostile.' He was dreadfully wrong, the knight swung his black sword towards Arthur, Arthur barely managed to duck below the blade and unsheathed the moonlight blade, before quickly being swung at again, despite wearing what looked to be extremely heavy armor, the knight was incredibly nimble. Arthur blocked the knight's blade with his own and struggled. His arms felt like they were going to give out.
'How is that thing swinging its sword so easily...? That sword looks heavier than me...'
He brought the sword back and ducked below the blade. This continued for a while, he was constantly being swung at by the knight. And was losing his stamina fast. He dodged backwards and started to weave runes, before quickly being caught off guard and losing focus by a downwards swing. He threw himself to the right, landing on the hard stone of the pedestal the statue stood on. His shoulder was bruised by the rough landing. He quickly stood up before noticing something odd on the statue. An inscription.
'...the abyss is not empty.' That is what was inscribed onto the statue. The mysterious letters sent Arthur's thoughts ablaze. The abyss is not empty. Of course. How could he be so stupid?
'I've been trying to understand the abyss as emptiness, but emptiness does not exactly mean nothing...the abyss itself is still something.'
Before he could fully finish his thoughts the black greatsword was already about to meet his neck. Before the greatsword could collided with his neck he quickly scrambled out two runes. Pause. And time. Time completely stopped for a second as Arthur rolled to the side, his head and chest throbbed as he instantly shattered the runes. He vomited quickly before standing up and making more distance between him and the knight.
'Shit...it's so much different when I do it outside of the library...'
He kept avoiding the night. Creating more distance between them so he had more time to think. By the time the knight was upon him. It was too late. He had comprehended emptiness. And a divine flame was quickly weaved onto his blade. The purifying white flame engulfed his sword. The knight took a step back, almost in awe, maybe even in fear.
'I did it...I finally did it!'
He dashed forward, the knight had been staggered from the sight of the flame, Arthur leaped and thrust his blade into the eye of the night. The blinding flame invaded the knight's body, and his armor melted apart, until there was nothing left. The snow beneath him had melted as well. Only slush covering his boots. He kneeled down to the corpse of the knight.
