Chapter 9 - — Calamities Spawn

Arthur woke up in a soft bed in an inn room he didn't recognize. He almost immediately opened his status window. Glancing at his level.

[Name: Arthur Pendragon Class: Evaluating Race: ??? Level: 23 Skills: Basic Swordsmanship, Moonlight Sword Style, Soul of Calamity, Calamities Spawn]

'Huh...soul of calamity and calamities spawn...those are new...and 20 levels? From killing that one thing? The thing that wasn't even hatched yet?'

He opened the description of the soul of calamity.

[Skill name: Soul of calamity Rank: Ancestral Description: The calamity dragon whom once posed a threat to all kind, his soul and connection to the great calamities allowed him to manipulate mana on a level even further than mortals.]

'So…basically, I'm not really bound by simple spells, if I wanted to I could make a fireball spell into a spear or something. If I'm reading that correctly.'

He moved onto the description of the calamities spawn.

[Skill: Calamities Spawn, Rank: Ancestral, Description: a dastardly knight who interfered with history killed the creature that would bear the role of calamity in the near future. And thus he has been chosen to replace that vessel. When the time has come for calamity to rise. He shall take its place.]

Arthur's expression grew grim. If he was reading this right, it means he would become a calamity, he thought that by killing the calamity dragon he could stop it altogether.

'Shit…I messed with predetermined history so I have to pay the price. I can't focus too much on this right now…'

Finally he retrieved the Calamities heart from an inventory he didn't even know he had. The heart was…a heart. A blue heart that was overloading with mana, some kind of crystals growing out of it.

[Would you like to consume {Calamities Heart}?]

"…yes."

The heart vanished in his hands and all of the energy lingering from it shot into his body. He felt searing pain everywhere in his body, his bones were shattering and reconstructing themselves. He peered inside his soul. The soul was the engine of the body, although it didn't really make sense. It didn't have to anyways. His soul was glowing bright blue, blue flame and lightning igniting the void around it. He tried to contain a pained scream as his heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest, every single muscle fiber in his body, even down to the atom, was reconstructing itself in a different form. After about 5 minutes the pain finally died down.

[You have become a dragon spawn! You have gained {Dragons Knowledge} and {Dragon body (Incomplete)}]

'Huh…this…is interesting.' Becoming a dragon spawn basically meant that he was a half human half dragon. The dragon's knowledge allowed him to peer through the memories of other dragons through his library of memories, and the dragon body was simply body reinforcement, although he was given no clear cut way to 'complete' the dragon body. He leaned his head back onto the pillow and allowed his consciousness to slip. As he entered the library of memories inside his head, it really looked more like a library now. Endlessly tall and long bookshelves expanded across an infinite space. He looked around him. These bookshelves were not empty. In fact there wasn't a single empty space in them.

'So this is...the dragons memories then...' Arthur lined his hand across the bookshelves, examining the ancient spines of the books. In a different section of the library, he found the moonlight sword master on the ground. Reading a few books.

"...old man. I have to ask you something."

"Oh, it's you, this space really has become something while you're gone...well spit it out then."

"I believe with my new body I'm ready for the rest of the moonlight sword. Could you teach me the true technique?"

The old man looked a bit nervous before smiling meekly. "Ah, the thing is...I actually don't know the moonlight sword style...ah ha..."

Arthur stared down the man. "You can't be serious...why else would you have appeared here when I absorbed that book?"

"Well...actually, that book wasn't the scribings of it. It's simply my diary. I tried my best to understand the essence of it too. But I met my end before I could...I believe you could start it, maybe even complete it. You might find something here too. I wouldn't doubt it. For now I really only have one hint. In all my life I only found one thing, pathetic, right? The light speed slash really isn't apart of the style. It's a failed technique."

'A failed technique? The light speed slash certainly wasn't all that complex, but it wasn't something to scoff at either. If that was failed, then the true techniques would be...incredibly powerful...'

He thought for a few seconds before looking towards the man.

"So. Whats the hint, huh?"

"You have to draw a star. That's all I know. And believe me did I try. With ink, with my sword, my blood even...but I couldn't figure it out so...uh...good luck I guess. You're young. So you'll definitely have more time than I did. Anyways...you don't really need me anymore so uh...see ya. Kid."

"Wait- I still have things to ask you-"

The man suddenly started dissipating into white dust and was carried off by an invisible wind. Entering the libraries endless expanses.

'The hell...what the hell am I supposed to do now?! I can't just learn swordsmanship by myself...I'm still only at a basic mastery...'
