She was lying there on the ground, looking up at the couple who were staring down at her. The man was smiling at the woman, and the woman giggled softly while glancing at her with amusement. Her thoughts were in complete chaos. She truly did not understand why she had ended up in this situation.
"I really pity you, you know. You really don't realise what has happened to you, do you?" The woman began to speak with a mocking tone. "Really pity you," she added again.
Yu Qi truly did not know what had happened to her. She remembered having dinner with them, but after that, her memories became completely blank.
The man whose fiancée wanted to have dinner with her, and the woman sitting beside him now. It had been a long time since they had last met and shared a meal together, so she had been excited to meet him again.
"There's no need to talk too much with her right now. Looking at her face, she really does not know anything about us." The man said calmly. "But since we are about to finish her off, she deserves to know the truth."
The woman nodded at the man with a satisfied smile.
"Yu Qi dear, we are getting married." The woman said with a smile.
The woman's sentence made Yu Qi's eyes widen in shock. 'What does she mean by that? Is she getting married? With whom?'
The man wrapped his arm around the woman's shoulder and smiled gently at her. At that moment, Yu Qi understood.
'But why? He is her fiancé.' She stared at the couple in disbelief.
"What? Why? You…" She could not finish her sentence because the woman suddenly grabbed her hair harshly. Yu Qi cried out in pain.
"Because he loves me, not you," the woman said coldly. "You were just what people call… Ah yes, a stepping stone for us. You are the heiress of that company, and you have a lot of money. So we simply used your money to help my man succeed. You should be happy that you were at least useful to us."
The woman finally released Yu Qi's hair.
The man then pulled out a handkerchief and gently wiped the woman's hand that had grabbed Yu Qi's hair earlier. His movements were careful and delicate. Yu Qi had never seen him show such tenderness before.
'Why?' The answer appeared in her mind immediately. 'Because he probably never loved me.'
"Don't think too much about it, because you will never survive after this." The woman said while giggling again.
What?" Yu Qi's heart trembled.
If he did not love her anymore, that was fine. She could let him go and allow him to marry the woman he truly loved. She would not stop him.
But why did they want to kill her?
"Many people will be happy if you die," the woman continued casually. "Your uncle, your aunt, your cousin… all of them want you dead. And we also want you dead. You are simply an obstacle for us to get what we want." The woman paused for a moment before smiling again.
"Ah, I almost forgot to tell you something. Your grandpa has already been taken care of. Sooner or later, he will be joining you." She added casually.
"What are you going to do to my grandpa?" Yu Qi asked weakly.
"Since you are going to die tonight, I might as well tell you the truth," the woman said smugly. "Your uncle's family has been feeding your grandpa a slow-acting poison for about two years now. Your uncle told me that the poison has already destroyed most of his organs. That is why he has been sick all the time." The woman explained.
Yu Qi felt completely shocked when she heard this news.
