The second lesson of the day was Language, the very subject for which Wang Fu Ya had demanded the essay. As soon as the class began, the teacher requested that everyone submit their homework before the lecture started. The teacher, Teacher Guan, began to carefully count the stack of papers she had received.
"It seems someone has not handed in their homework. Please confess now." Teacher Guan said.
Her eyes scanned the room for the missing student. As expected, a heavy silence filled the room. No one spoke up.
"Fine then. Everyone, please stand up. When I call your name, you may sit down." Teacher Guan said.
Teacher Guan began to call the names slowly, one by one. Eventually, the entire class was seated except for Yu Qi's name.
Yu Qi had known this would happen the moment she handed her paper over to Wang Fu Ya. In fact, it was the focal point of her entire plan. Seeing Teacher Guan waiting for an explanation, Yu Qi calmly walked to the front of the classroom.
"I have already submitted my essay, Teacher Guan." Yu Qi stated.
Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, but it carried a steady weight that everyone in the room could hear clearly.
"But I have looked through these papers, and I cannot find your name anywhere." Teacher Guan replied with her brow furrowed in confusion.
"Of course you won't find my name, Teacher. Someone stole my essay and simply wrote their own name over mine." Yu Qi spoke out.
The bold statement left her lips, sending a shockwave of whispers through the classroom.
"What? Are you sure? Do you know whose name is currently on your work?" Teacher Guan asked quickly.
She was a strict educator who could not tolerate such blatant academic dishonesty.
"Yes, I know exactly whose name it is. It belongs to Wang Fu Ya." Yu Qi pointed it out.
The moment the name left her lips, every head in the room swivelled toward Wang Fu Ya with looks of pure shock.
"Hey, Yu Qi! You can't just accuse Fu Ya like that!" Shen Mei, Wang Fu Ya's best friend, spoke out sharply to defend her. "If you're going to claim she's a thief, you'd better have the evidence to back it up!"
"In that case, may I ask 'Miss Wang' to tell us exactly what she wrote in her essay?" Yu Qi asked.
She wore a smile, but it was a cold, sharp expression that did not reach her eyes.
Wang Fu Ya sat there, completely speechless. Her mind was a frantic blank. Of course, she had not bothered to read a single word of the essay. After snatching it from Yu Qi, she had tucked it away until the moment of submission.
She had no idea what the specific contents were. She only vaguely remembered that the general topic was related to drugs.
"I... I wrote about the dangers of drug abuse." Wang Fu Ya answered, trying to regain her confidence.
"Oh, drug abuse? Well, if you wrote it, you should remember the details quite well. Can you summarise the content for us?" Yu Qi pressed her again.
"Yu Qi, don't get ahead of yourself!" Shen Mei shouted, her anger rising. "Let me ask you instead. What evidence do you have to prove that the specific essay is yours?"
"Fortunately for you, I have plenty of evidence. I know every single detail of that content." Yu Qi said, turning to face the class. "In the first paragraph, I discussed the use of drugs in the medical field, noting that while they are widely used, they are strictly controlled in small dosages. For the second and third paragraphs, I analysed the factors that lead to drug abuse. In the fourth, fifth, and sixth paragraphs, I detailed the devastating effects of drug abuse on the individual, on society, and on the nation as a whole. And finally, the last paragraph serves as the conclusion. Is that a correct summary of the paper you are holding, Teacher Guan?"
Initially, she had been facing her classmates, but now she turned her gaze toward Teacher Guan for confirmation.
"Yes... she is exactly right. This essay is written precisely as she just described." Teacher Guan nodded, her eyes narrowing as she looked back down at the paper in her hand.
"If Miss Shen still does not believe me, I can happily recite the entire essay for you, word for word." Yu Qi suggested.
With her 26-year-old soul and sharpened memory, she truly could recite every line. She cast a slim, triumphant smile toward the rest of the room.
