Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Temporary Shelter

Leaving the school grounds, she made her way toward her part-time job. Fortunately for her, the restaurant where she worked was located not far from the school, so it did not take much time for her to get there. As she walked along the road, she hummed a soft tune to herself, sounding rather relaxed.

''Master, what are you going to do if your boss cannot help you?' Bo Ya's sudden question caused her to stop walking for a moment.

'Well, I still have some money with me right now. If that happens, I will simply rent a small room somewhere.' She nodded to herself as if reassuring her own thoughts.

After a few minutes of walking, she finally arrived at her part-time workplace, which was a small family restaurant. She remembered that in her past life, within two years after she left this town, this restaurant eventually closed down due to the steady decrease in its customers.

"Yu Qi, what are you doing here? The restaurant has not opened yet." Someone greeted Yu Qi the moment she appeared near the entrance.

A warm smile instantly appeared on Yu Qi's lips when she heard the familiar voice. The woman standing before her was the owner of the restaurant and also her boss, Madam Sheng Tan Hua.

The moment Yu Qi saw her, tears suddenly began to flow down her cheeks.

"Boss…" Yu Qi called out softly before rushing forward and hugging Madam Sheng tightly while crying.

At that moment, she did not care at all about what others might think about her behaviour.

Meanwhile, Madam Sheng was slightly stunned and confused when she was suddenly hugged by Yu Qi. However, when she noticed that the girl was crying so miserably, her expression softened with concern. She gently patted Yu Qi's back in a comforting manner.

After a short while, Yu Qi slowly began to calm down, and her crying gradually stopped.

Madam Sheng then invited Yu Qi into the restaurant. Even Yu Qi herself did not fully understand why she had suddenly started crying earlier. Perhaps it was because after being reborn, she had constantly kept her guard up against her enemies. Seeing her boss, who had treated her kindly in her past life, made the tension in her heart finally relax.

"Yu Qi, drink this." Madam Sheng handed her a mug filled with hot chocolate.

Yu Qi accepted the mug and carefully took a sip from it.

"Tell me what happened to you." Madam Sheng looked at her with a warm and gentle expression, just like a mother looking at her own child.

"Boss… can I stay at your house for a while?" Yu Qi asked as she pleaded with her boss.

"I have no problem with that, but wouldn't your family be worried about you?" Madam Sheng asked.

"No… they won't." Yu Qi sneered coldly. "They would never worry about me."

"You shouldn't say that. They are your family. How could they possibly not worry about you?" Madam Sheng voiced her concern.

"Because I'm not their child. I was adopted." Yu Qi's hands slowly clenched into tight fists.

Yu Qi's statement shocked Madam Sheng. She had never imagined that Yu Qi was actually an adopted daughter of the Wang Family.

The Wang Family had moved into this town ten years ago. At that time, they had already brought their children with them, so no one in the town had ever suspected that Yu Qi was adopted.

"How did you find out about it?" Madam Sheng asked with concern.

"Last night, I overheard them talking about it." Yu Qi lowered her head slightly. "She said, 'We have to wait for another four years before we can cut her off from our family. It's for our safety."

She clenched her fists even tighter.

"No wonder they never gave me any family love. No wonder they treated me like a slave." She bit her lips hard, trying to suppress the bitterness in her heart.

"Really boss? Thank you, boss. I will look for another room later." Yu Qi felt happy. She told her the truth but a little bit lie.

Madam Sheng could not help but feel deep pity for the girl in front of her.

"Then you can stay here," Madam Sheng said gently. "We actually have an empty room right now. It's my daughter's room. She is currently out of town, so the room is not being used."

"Really, boss? Thank you, boss." Yu Qi felt extremely happy after hearing that. "I will look for another place to stay later."

"Go, rest now. Take your time off today." Madam Sheng ordered.

What she said was partly the truth, although there was also a small lie mixed in.

"Go and rest now. Take the day off today." Madam Sheng instructed her kindly.

"Yes, boss."
