Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Taming the Spirit

Eva woke up to a weight on her waist. She did not need to open her eyes to know who it was. Kevins body was warm. She could feel a quiet and scary energy in the air. She tried to move but his arm just got tighter and pushed her against his chest.

"Do not even think about trying to leave when you're this weak " Kevin said in a low voice. His voice was rough. It sounded like he was growling. It was scary but kind of attractive.

Eva turned to face him. Saw his dark eyes. They were calm and deep. "You are sick " she said. She pulled at her wrist. "A bracelet that says 'Property'? What is this? Do you think you own me?"

Kevin did not move. He took her chin. Pulled her face close to his. "I did not buy a slave, Eva " he said. "You are alive because of me.. I am here to teach you what that means."

Time passed slowly. Eva felt tense and scared. She did not expect Kevin to take her to the basement. It was a gym with a lot of equipment. Kevin changed into clothes that showed off his muscles. He looked strong and ready to fight.

"You can still fight with your legs " he said. He threw her some gloves. "Let us see what your father taught you. If you can hit my face you can. Take off the bracelet."

Eva felt angry and brave. She took a fighting stance. Her hand hurt. She did not care. "You will regret this " she said.

The fight was crazy. Eva. Punched but Kevin was too fast. He moved like a shadow. Avoided her attacks. Sometimes he got close to her. She felt a shock. She tried to ignore it.

Eva jumped at Kevin. He caught her easily. He turned her around. Pushed her to the ground. His arm was under her chin. She could not move.

"You are fast but you let your feelings control you " he said. "In my world feelings can get you killed."

Their bodies were close. Eva felt hot. Kevins heart was beating fast. She could hear it. She felt angry but something else. She did not know what it was.

Eva stopped moving. It was not because Kevin won but because he was too close. Their eyes. The air was thick. Kevin touched her face. It felt gentle. He brushed away some sweat and his touch was soft.

"Why are you doing this?" Eva asked. Her voice was shaky.

Kevin leaned in close. "Because you are the one who looked at me like I am a person " he said. "Everyone else is scared of me. You are not.. Now I will make you see me."

Kevin leaned in closer. Breathed in her scent. It was not a kiss. It felt like a promise. Eva gasped. It was not fear. Something else.

That night Kevin told Eva to wear a black dress. It was tight. Felt like a secret. When she walked into the dining room Kevin looked at her. He was sitting at a table with wine in his hand. He looked at her like she was his prize.

"Tomorrow you will come with me to a party " he said. "You will be with me. Everyone will see you. They will know you are with me Kevin Fontaine."

"They will think we are together " Eva said.

Kevin smiled. It was an scary smile. "No they will know you are mine " he said. "You are my valuable thing."

Kevins phone rang. He answered it. His face changed. He sounded mean and scary. "What do you want? Tell the director to shut up. He will die."

Eva realized that Kevin was not a person.. She felt drawn to him. She liked the way he was strong and scary.

Later Eva went to bed. She found a note, from Sandra. It said "Eva, run. Kevin is not who he says he is. He hurt your father."

Eva felt cold. Kevin was standing in the doorway with the note. He. It was a scary smile.

"Do you like the note?" he asked. "Now the real game starts."
