Sid's mind spins in despair upon witnessing the sight. It goes back and forth, trying to process the situation at hand.
After a brief moment she finally comes to terms with her situation.
I am going to die.
How did it get to this, when did it all go wrong.
She begins recalling her life up to this point, from when she was around four years old and was picked off the streets by the boss, to when she was around eight, happily playing with the gang members.
Finally, she begins reminiscing about a time two years ago.
She was standing in the centre of a big hall. All the gang members were lined up along the two opposite sides of the hall, with the boss sitting on an elevated platform in the centre of all of them.
He called her forward.
"Come here, my child."
She listened, walked up to him, and knelt down, bowing her head.
The boss gestured to the side, calling someone from amidst the crowds. A woman wearing a mask and carrying a bag stepped forward.
She walks behind Sid and begins unpacking the bag. She brings out a tattoo kit, and Sid, following her commands, takes off her shirt.
The woman begins tattooing a red, green and black dragon on Sid's back. She doesn't need any prior drawings or stencils, proof that she has done this countless times.
When she is done with the drawing, Sid faces up to look at the boss.
"Will you honour the ways of the KobangJo?"
"Yes," Sid responds firmly.
"Will you treat the KobangJo as your own blood?"
"Yes," she echoes again.
"Will you live, fight, and die for KobangJo?"
"Yes, I will!" she states with resolve, louder than the rest.
The tattoo artist finishes one final inscription on the back, spelling the name Sid KobangJo beneath the dragon.
Then the boss continues.
"From this moment on, you are no longer my daughter. But a child of KobangJo. Do well to honour us."
"Y-yes," Sid replies shakily after hearing the statement her father just made, the implications being that she had been disowned.
Before she even had time to process any of it, her thoughts are cut off by the gang members' chants and cheers, repeating:
"KOBANGJO! KOBANGJO!"
Over and over again.
That was the day everything changed.
I can still clearly remember how I felt.
Proud that I had been chosen, thinking I could finally prove my worth to my father.
The boss.
Prove that he was right to have adopted me all those years ago.
Little did I know.
Once I joined the gang officially and stopped being my father's daughter, was when I saw the true faces of the people I had looked up to all my life.
They would take me along on assigned missions, and I would watch as they terrorized people. I couldn't believe my eyes at first.
They have always been like this. This apocalypse just gave them a chance to show their true colours.
Seeing as I was the boss's former daughter, the grunts kept their distance, and I had somewhat of a secure life. However, that security didn't apply to everyone. The high-ranking members and their direct underlings had no problem toying with my dignity.
It is a dog-eat-dog world, they said.
My father stopped looking me in the eyes. He had truly cast me aside.
Despite all that, I stuck around because they accepted me when I was nothing.
This place is my home.
And yet…
Tears fall from Sid's face as she confronts the reality of what she has to do.
Forgive me, Papa.
Sid clutches her chest in anguish.
I'm letting you down after everything you have done for me.
But I am afraid. I don't want to die.
Sid picks up a shard of glass from the broken sculpture and swings it downwards at her hand, chopping off a part of her left pinky finger.
She raises her eyes from where she is kneeling to look at Anna, red from crying and full of resentment.
"Fine," she curses as she gets up to follow Anna.
Meanwhile, on Quin's side.
He arrives at the cabin and sees all of the partying going on. He instantly turns his eyes away in repulsion and heads back into the hall.
What form of unholiness is this?
Right then, his thoughts are cut off as one of the gangsters walks up to him after noticing his reaction.
"Are you a new?" he questions as he puts his hands over Quin's shoulders. "You must be. You're acting like you've never been with a bitch in your life."
"Ahh, yes, I am. I just arrived recently," Quin stutters out.
A woman passing by joins in on the conversation.
"Aren't you a cute one? I know a quiet place. Why not join me for some fun?"
Quin, nervous as hell, tries to look for a way to back out of the conversation. Then he remembers what he came for.
"Actually, I'm looking for Catherina. She told me to come meet her as soon as I could."
"Catherina?" the guy questions, taking a moment to look at Quin's face carefully.
"So you are already swimming with the big fishes. I'm so jealous," the woman adds.
Quin laughs it off and gets back to his question.
"Do you know where I can find her?"
"Ah, I see you're doing great, you punk. If you want to find Catherina's place, you go to the second-highest floor, and from there you… Ah, forget it!"
He stops out of annoyance with the overly complicated directions, too complicated for him at least.
He looks around him for a bit, scanning his surroundings as though looking for someone. He finally spots the person.
"Hey, Rod!" he yells. "Get over here!"
A young girl who doesn't look a day above ten comes running their way. She is dirty, her hair is messed up, and she is clothed in rags and she has a blank expression on her face.
Quin is baffled by the sight.
What business does a young child like this have in a place like this?
Do these people have no boundaries?
"This is Rod," he says as he places his hand on her head. "She is one of Catherina's, like you. Might be her successor if she is tough enough. She is going to lead you to Catherina's place."
He hits the girl on the head.
"Got that, Rod?"
"Yes," she replies.
Quin feels pity looking at her dishevelled state.
She looks like she could break from the slightest breeze.
"Follow me, mister," she says, ready to guide Quin.
He follows her, and they begin leaving.
"Have a great time, you punk!" the man yells as he waves Quin off.
