Chapter 21 - A Chance At Freedom

In a moderately clean cell with a decent amount of lighting, Anna sits on the floor, unshackled, with a blanket covering her head as she clutches her ears in pain.

Why is the ringing so loud out here?

I feel like my head is about to explode.

Earlier, when I was being brought here, before a bag was put over my head.

I was able to see that this is a ship at sea.

So how can there be so much noise here?

Could it be this ringing coming from something else?

She raises her head a bit to look at the neighbouring cell.

I think I'm the only one here.

Quin and Zane... where could they be? I hope they're alright.

As Anna remains writhing on the floor, she hears the doors open and a pair of feet step into the room.

She removes the blanket covering her face to see who has stepped inside.

This bitch.

"So you finally show your ugly face," she spits out the instant she sees who it is.

It's Sid.

She walks into the room with a gloomy expression on her face, but the instant Anna starts talking, a smile breaks out on her face.

"You look lively as ever, I see," Sid mocks as she strikes the cell bar with her knife.

Anna strains to look at her.

"No thanks to you."

Sid, meeting Anna's glare with a grin, notices that she is straining to stay upright.

"On the other hand, you don't look so good."

"Don't die on me yet. I still have some use for you."

"Fuck you," Anna dismisses her.

She notices Sid's knife and questions her motive.

"Why have you come here? To mock me? Is it fun? Are you having fun?"

Sid laughs at Anna's angry taunt.

"Yes, it is. I am having a lot of fun with you."

Then her expression becomes more serious as she holds up the knife to her face.

"But unfortunately for you, I didn't come here for fun."

Damn it. I had a bad feeling about that blade.

"What is this, some kind of organ transplanting business?"

Anna looks at the window as a thought comes to mind.

"I thought you guys were just a bunch of thugs, but it looks like you're in league with those cultists. What is it? Are you going to use me as a blood sacrifice?"

"No, no, nothing like that," Sid laughs. "Although there will be sacrificing involved, it won't be you. It will be you sacrificing your friends to stay alive."

"What?! Quin! Zane! Don't you dare lay a finger on them!"

Anna slams her head straight into the bars as she glares at Sid, inches away from her.

"Relax."

Sid pushes Anna back onto the floor, and she collapses.

"It's not them I'm talking about. Quin is in a better position than you are now. By friends, I mean the people at your base. I heard you speak about them earlier. What I want from you is information."

Sid squats to Anna's level on the floor to look her in the eyes.

"Tell me where your base is, and you get to live," she warns, pointing at Anna with the knife in her hand.

Shit, so she is going to torture me.

I'm not strong enough to survive something like that.

"Fuck you. Like hell I'm telling you anything."

"So there is a base," Sid confirms happily. "I wasn't sure at first, but your reaction just now told me that you aren't the only survivor."

Shit.

I'm already messing things up.

I need to find a way out of here before I ruin things even more.

I can't put Andy and the others in danger.

"Fuck you," Anna repeats as she scans her surroundings for anything.

Sid removes the keys from her pocket to enter the cell, and right then Anna sees her opportunity.

She tosses her blanket to cover Sid's view.

"What?", Sid blurts in disarray.

Then Anna grabs a braid of Sid's hair that is touching the ground and, using it, slams her head against the cell bar hard enough to stun her.

Sid falls unconscious, and the keys to the cell drop onto the floor right in front of Anna.

Anna collapses and lets out a breath of relief.

Then she stares at Sid's body on the floor.

"Bitch," she mutters under her breath.

That solves that, but what now?

How do I get out of this place?

Sid twitches a bit, and Anna catches it.

Let me make sure she can't do anything when she wakes up first. I'm not sure I can beat her in a fair fight in my current condition.

She picks up the keys and unlocks her cell door, then drags Sid's body inside her cell and roughly pushes her into a corner.

Anna looks outside her cell and notices something lying on the floor.

It's Sid's knife.

Looking at it, she gets an idea.

She picks up the knife, then her blanket, and uses the knife to cut her blanket into small pieces. She then uses those small pieces to tie up Sid and locks her inside the cell.

And now...

Anna walks along the passage and scans her surroundings.

It is a large chamber of cells. The other cells beside hers are empty, but there are signs of use.

She passes by one cell, and it has blood splattered all over the wall. Laying on the floor are some gruesome instruments of torture.

A cold shiver runs through Anna's spine.

Was that girl going to use these things on me?

I can't get captured again or I'm dead. I need to find my way out of here quickly.

Anna rushes to the exit, still clutching her head.

But once she opens the door, she stops in her tracks.

She is standing on a ledge, and the sight before her is like nothing she has ever seen, countless gangsters partying and committing several kinds of acts.

Anna quickly rushes back inside and slams the door shut.

She holds her face in terror and, shortly after, begins throwing up due to the things she saw.

What...?

What was that just now?

These people...

Are animals.
