Jinx looked down at herself, smoothing the fabric of the blue gown. It was beautiful—rich silk that caught the light, fitted perfectly to her frame. The color reminded her of the sky just before sunset. It felt familiar against her skin, yet unfamiliar at the same time. It had been so long since she had worn something that was not rags or castoffs.
Edith and Delilah stood behind her, admiring their work.
"You look wonderful, mistress," Edith said, her voice soft with emotion. "It has been a very long time since you looked this way."
Delilah nodded, her eyes glistening. "Truly beautiful. Like your old self."
Jinx turned to face them, a genuine smile touching her lips. "Thank you. Both of you. I could not have done any of this without you."
Edith stepped forward. "Should we not follow you? To the tea party? You should have attendants with you."
Jinx shook her head. "It is not necessary. I need to do this alone."
