Jinx's heart skipped a beat. Fear crawled up her throat, thick and bitter. She kept her expression neutral, her pace casual, as if she was simply taking a leisurely stroll through the gardens. But her eyes remained fixed on the woman being dragged away, on the dark droplets that marked the stone.
Then she noticed them. The media drones. Three of them had broken away from the main party and were hovering near her, their lenses gleaming. They were following her, waiting for her to do something interesting.
Jinx's jaw tightened. She could not lead them to the bleeding woman. She could not be the reason that woman's suffering became public spectacle.
So she watched helplessly as the pregnant woman disappeared around a corner, swallowed by the shadows of a side building. The woman holding her arm was no longer visible.
