Everyone watched. The courtyard was so quiet you could hear the champagne bubbling in the fountain.
Silvia stepped forward, her voice dripping with false concern. "I do not know why this woman would do such a thing, Lady Nala. Disrespecting your invitation and thinking she can do whatever she likes. It is truly embarrassing."
The women in the crowd exchanged glances. Others watched with eager anticipation. They knew Nala did not take kindly to rule-breakers. The drama was about to begin.
Jinx remained still, her expression unreadable.
"May I speak, Lady Nala?" Jinx asked, her voice calm.
Nala nodded once.
Jinx lifted her chin. "The invitation list stated that the wife of the household was invited. I am the wife of my household. Does that not mean I am respecting the invitation by being here?"
Silvia's face tightened. Her hands clenched at her sides.
Nala turned her gaze to Silvia. "So you are not the wife then."
Silvia could not lie. That would be worse.
