The organization of bustling with activity when we arrived.
'Congratulations Mia'
'Hi Mia'
'Looking good today Mia'
'Congrats!'
One, I don't know what the heck they're congratulating me for. Two…it's really annoying. Okay get me straight! I'm not a hater…I think.
"Mia, Walk with me," Adeline's voice came up from behind.
Adeline is the current head of the organization. She's a young woman in her mid twenties, very gorgeous too. She took a liking to me, probably because we're so alike in terms of achievements and other things. But one thing I'll never stop to wonder is why the heck she's still single. No, hear me out, she's drop dead gorgeous, successful and has a kind heart but she still won't let anyone close to her romantically.
I slowed down my pace to match her's. She smiles at me and looked back ahead.
"Why are people congratulating me?"
I know, she's my senior and technically my boss so I should show my formalities BUT I wouldn't give the damn of day.
She smiled softly.
"Your promotion of course," she said calmly.
Promotion?! I stopped and faced her. "Promotion? What have I been promoted to?" I asked out of curiosity. Who wouldn't be excited for their promotion?? Higher pay baby.
Adeline examined the curiosity on my face and smiled. "It's nice to see you acting your age from time to time." And with that my smile immediately drops.
Here we go again.
"Don't give me that look Mia, you're just 16 and yet you're carrying way too much on your shoulders. I'm going to push for your leave very soon." She spoke.
I know everything she said is true but I'm too stubborn to just fold to her words. I have a goal in mind and I'm not going nowhere until I kill that basta-…no no.
"I don't need the leave, Adeline." I spoke knowing very well that she won't listen to me.
"Oh yes your promotion" she just ignored me like that…wow. "You're now in charge of all the cadets in the organization, that includes training procedures, weapon implementation and much more."
Now that was a bomb! That's such big role but wait…isn't grumpy Collin's role?
"Isn't that Mr Collin's position?" I asked.
He's gonna be so mad! I can't wait to see the look on his wrinkled face.
"Let's be honest here Mia, Mr Collins is getting a little old, we need fresh ideas here, he'll be your Vice though, since he does have the experience." She said.
Makes sense though…
"I'll be off to my room then…" I said.
"Alright, get some rest Mia." She turned towards me and brushed a few strands of my hair behind my ear before walking away.
Honestly speaking…If I wasn't straight I would've fallen hard for that lady.
I shook my head dispelling the silly thought and walked into my room. The organization provides accommodation for kids like me…orphans, that is…
The picture of me and my parents is the first thing that stood out…such bright smiles couldn't compare to the current reality.
I sighed and laid down on my bed and I couldn't help but think about her…it's been eleven years since she just…disappeared…. I know for a fact that it's the vampire's fault because the timing from her disappearance and my parent's death is uncanny….Chanelle.
Just as I was about to close my eyes and continue thinking about my childhood bestfriend. The alarms suddenly went off, not the usual alarm, no…but an alarm that meant one thing….they've never attacked again in the last 10 years…but why now?…
Vampires.
