Chapter 14 - The Silent Crowd

Conrad and Tom both saw Steve crying and asked him what was wrong.

He simply replied,

"Nothing."

Then suddenly...

It was nighttime.

Through the vents, they could see the outside world.

A giant screen appeared, showing the names of the people who were going to be killed that night.

It was none other than...

Conrad and Tom.

But they were nowhere to be seen.

They were hiding.

Steve then explained that in Bulltown, every citizen is assigned a specific job during the night, so everyone always knows where they are supposed to be. If anyone isn't at their assigned place, they are immediately marked.

Children had to be at school.

Women had to be teaching, working at hospitals, or doing other assigned jobs.

Men had to be in offices or working construction.

Everything continued as normal...

Until it was time for the Bulls' Cage.

Conrad and Tom were new, so they hadn't been assigned anything yet.

King Serloth immediately sent his crew to search for them.

Steve knew they were in danger.

But he also knew they still had some time because there were other victims scheduled before them.

Since they were inside the mall, Steve quickly disguised Conrad and Tom as women by sneaking some clothes and makeup.

Boom.

They looked like completely different people.

The three of them carefully stepped out of the parking area.

The streets were now crowded.

No one paid attention to two new women walking through the city.

Everyone's eyes were focused on the real event of the night.

The butchering...

Of a six-year-old girl.

She had been sentenced to death...

Simply because she stepped outside during the daytime.

Why?

She wanted to bring her doll inside because she was scared it would get sunburned and become super tanned.

What a pure soul.

Her parents fell to their knees, begging for mercy.

"Please..."

"Spare her, my Lord."

King Serloth looked at them and laughed.

"You should've bought her a black doll."

"Then she wouldn't have worried about it getting tanned."

"Hahahaha."

He raised his hand...

And signaled the Bulls.

The little girl stood inside the cage while her parents remained outside, separated by thick metal bars.

She looked up at them innocently.

"Mama..."

"Where's my doll?"

"It's time to give her a bath."

Her parents couldn't stop crying.

"Don't worry, sweetheart."

"Your doll is all clean."

"She's waiting for you..."

"In Heaven."

The little girl tilted her head.

"I'm going to Heaven?"

"How do you know?"

Her father forced himself to smile through his tears.

"Because whenever the Bulls play with someone..."

"They go to Heaven."

The little girl smiled.

"Oh..."

"So Big Brother Henry went to Heaven too?"

It hit Conrad and Tom instantly.

Henry.

Steve.

And the little girl...

Amy.

They were all siblings.

Steve ran toward the cage.

He grabbed the bars and looked at his little sister.

"Don't worry, kid."

"You'll meet Big Bro Henry."

"He's waiting for you."

Inside...

Steve was completely shattered.

Amy smiled brightly.

"When will you come, Steve?"

Steve looked away for a second before answering.

"I don't know."

"I think..."

"You'll be the last one from our family to reach Heaven."

"We won't be that lucky."

"...But maybe the next one to go there..."

"...will be Serloth."

Amy's innocent eyes sparkled.

"Oh!"

"The King?"

"Wow!"

"I'll play princess and king with him!"

Steve completely broke.

He couldn't look at her anymore.

He slowly stepped back.

"Bye..."

"My little angel."

Amy waved happily.

"Bye, Steve."

"Bye, Dada."

"Bye, Mama."

Conrad and Tom watched everything in complete silence.

Inside...

They were crying harder than ever.

But not a single tear escaped their eyes.

Instead...

They looked at King Serloth.

That evil bastard...

Was smiling.

The Bulls entered the cage.

Amy happily ran toward them.

"Hey, Bulls!"

"You know I'm going to Hea—"

She couldn't finish her sentence because her mouth was filled with a bullhorn, and both of her hands were trapped inside the mouths of the bulls. She stood there for a moment before slowly falling to the ground as the bulls trampled her. Afterward, only her spilled blood, waste, intestine like a rope and skin—flattened into a thin wire—remained on the floor.

The entire crowd fell silent.

Moments later...

The execution was over.

The streets were washed clean.

The automatic cleaners removed every trace of what had happened.

Not a single person in the crowd spoke.

Everyone simply returned to work...

As if nothing had happened.
