Ruby's POV
I caught myself before a sharp intake of breath could escape my lips.
Quickly, I shoved my phone deep into my pocket and strolled back to my coworkers as if nothing had happened.
"Sorry girls, something urgent just came up. One of my major clients sent an emergency message. I have to get back to the office right away." I delivered what I hoped was a convincing lie.
Their faces fell with disappointment.
"Seriously? You can't even take a proper lunch break? We were all waiting to hear the details about how you landed that deal with Mr. Muller."
"I know, I'm sorry. It really can't wait. Next time for sure, I promise! I'll catch up with you all later!"
I rushed away and headed straight back into the building.
The CEO's private elevator was territory I'd only entered once before. That was when Zenith fired me and I had to grovel to Elias for assistance.
Back then, the hostile receptionist had made my life miserable.
