Ruby's POV
I paced restlessly in the grand hallway, my hands trembling as I waited for Elias to emerge from his meeting with his parents.
The silence stretched endlessly. What were they telling him behind those closed doors? I could already imagine their words cutting through the air like knives. They would call me worthless, a burden he should abandon without a second thought. The familiar sting of those accusations wasn't new to me.
But the question that truly terrified me was different. What would Elias's response be?
"Try to breathe," Lyanna murmured softly beside me. "Alpha Elias would never allow anyone to harm you."
I managed a weak smile in return. "I appreciate that."
"He abandoned crucial pack business today, turned his private jet around mid-flight, all because of you. In all my years serving this family, I've never witnessed him show such devotion to any woman."
Mrs. Maxwell had shared similar observations with me before.
