Its the next day and the morning light was too bright for a day that felt heavy with the weight of public opinion. I scrolled through my phone, the headlines a familiar, vicious chorus: Moreno Scandal: Did the New Stepsister Attempt Murder?, Audrey Moreno: From Wedding Wrecker to Would-Be Killer?, Whitmore Attacked: Inside the party Gone Wrong.
At least the medical updates confirmed he was stable. And that he was saved by me. But people prefer to not accept the truth.
Dave's voice cut through the hum of the car engine. He was driving, his eyes fixed on the road. "The worst of the conspiracy theories are down. The security footage showing the waiter acting suspiciously went public an hour ago. Commentary is shifting, but you're still the villain in the popular narrative." He glanced at me in the rearview mirror. "You have a lot of work ahead of you if you want to win people over. So don't make it worse."
