For most horse girls, they would have already been selected by a trainer during Tracen Academy's internal selection races before their debut. After that, they would train under the trainer's guidance until they were deemed ready to debut.
Celestial Weave hadn't participated in these selections. Winning the debut race was almost a certainty for her. Instead of wasting time getting acclimated with a trainer before signing up, she had decided to use the debut race as her own stage. She would win with such a dazzling performance that the trainers would come to her.
However, the day after her debut race, when she stepped onto the Tracen training grounds full of confidence, the scene she had envisioned—trainers flocking to invite her—did not happen.
"Have the trainers already assumed that all the horse girls in the debut race have been selected?" she wondered, confused.
It couldn't be that the trainers at Tracen couldn't see her potential. Winning with such a huge lead—even a blind person could have heard it in the cheers.
The more she thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
She also noticed that whenever she looked at the trainers by the track, they would awkwardly look away, as if deliberately avoiding her.
Finally, unable to figure it out, Celestial Weave decided to randomly pick a lucky winner from the group of trainers to answer her questions.
She immediately walked towards them, causing a stir among the trainers gathered by the track. They all started pushing each other, trying to put someone else in front.
When Celestial Weave arrived, a young trainer who had clearly just joined Tracen was pushed out.
She turned her head, looked at the other trainers who were now whistling and looking at the sky, and felt a bit speechless. In a way, they were quite in sync. But their actions made it obvious that something was wrong.
Celestial Weave turned her gaze away from the old-timers and looked up at the anxious young trainer. "So, are you going to talk?"
The young trainer broke out in a cold sweat but still tried to play dumb. "T-talk about what?"
Faced with such a weak denial, Celestial Weave didn't even have the energy to argue. She just pointed at the sky-gazing trainers and looked at him silently.
"Let the kid go. I think his brain is about to overheat."
Just before the young trainer's brain went into overdrive and crashed, a middle-aged man's voice sounded from behind her.
Celestial Weave turned and saw a middle-aged trainer wearing a gray hat who looked somewhat familiar. After a moment, she said tentatively, "Are you... Narita Top Road's trainer?"
"Oh? You only saw me from a distance on the track and you remember me? You have a good memory." He smiled as he walked over and patted the young trainer's shoulder, signaling that he could leave.
"Thank you, Mr. Okita!" The trainer bowed to him, wiped his sweat, and ran off.
Celestial Weave didn't stop him. After he had gone, she slowly said to Okita, "So, are you going to talk?"
"Let's go somewhere else first. There are too many people here," Okita said, not answering her question directly, but smiling and pointing to a bench at the other end of the track.
After they walked over, Okita looked around to make sure no one was nearby before he spoke. "You're wondering why no trainers are approaching you?"
"Anyone who isn't wondering after that scene would be the strange one."
"What's the reason? And why be so secretive about it? Is this the 'dark truth of Tracen' or something?" Celestial Weave's tone was annoyed. First her plan had failed, and now she was being avoided by the trainers. She was starting to get angry.
Okita laughed. "There's no dark truth. You've been spending too much time on the school forums, young lady."
"The trainers are avoiding you... because of you."
Celestial Weave pointed at herself, confused. "Avoiding me? Why? Am I the type of horse girl who would flying-kick a trainer on sight?"
"I really hope a horse girl like that is just a figment of your imagination." Okita gave a wry smile, cleared his throat, and said seriously, "To be precise, it's because of your mother, Isami Mai."
"As her daughter, you might not understand the weight of that name, but for us trainers, it's legendary."
"After all, she is a world-class horse girl."
"She personally came to us and told us not to recruit you. How could anyone say no?"
Okita's answer stunned Celestial Weave. She could never have imagined that her mother was behind this. But why would she do that? What benefit would she get from stopping her own daughter from finding a trainer?
After hearing this shocking news, Celestial Weave didn't even have time to think about the reason. She subconsciously stood up from the bench, looking like she was about to go confront her mother immediately.
Seeing her aggressive stance, Okita didn't stop her, but continued, "There's no need to go looking for her. You've been living at the dorms, so you probably don't know, but she went abroad for an exhibition a few days ago."
Hearing this, Celestial Weave immediately took out her phone, intending to make an international call. But the moment her finger touched the screen, she remembered that she didn't know which country her mother had gone to. And to make an international call, you had to enter the country code.
She subconsciously looked at Okita.
He just shrugged helplessly. "You think she wouldn't have thought of that? She's probably already changed her number."
It was only then that Celestial Weave finally understood. She gripped her phone tightly and murmured, "She's avoiding me..."
Not even showing her face, just using her influence to make the trainers afraid to approach her. What was she trying to do?
Looking at her, head bowed in thought, Okita looked up at the sky and said as if to himself, "A trainer is crucial to a horse girl's future. The parents need to be notified when one is chosen."
"Even if she hadn't said anything beforehand, she could have just kept refusing until the trainers gave up."
"To tell them in advance and then avoid you..."
"She probably just doesn't want your relationship to become strained—"
Standing beside him, Celestial Weave silently tightened her grip on her phone, her voice so calm it was impossible to read her emotions.
"Is that a reason to treat someone like a doll?"
Okita turned his head. Her bangs covered her eyes, making her expression unreadable.
With a long sigh, he looked up at the sky and said to himself, "Who knows? I've never been a mother, after all—"
