"You want me to talk to Yume? Why?" Pulled into an empty corner, Saint-King Halo's eyes darted around, as if avoiding something.
"Don't you know what state she's been in lately?" Her attitude made Narita Top Road hesitate. As sisters, she thought this was something that wouldn't need a detailed explanation.
"Yume's condition is for a trainer to manage. I'm just her sister..." Saint-King Halo crossed her arms, subconsciously adopting a defensive posture.
She was running away again. Ever since Celestial Weave had won the Yayoi Sho and officially become a top contender for the Triple Crown, she hadn't dared to look at her younger sister. Now, just hearing her name, she couldn't even put on her usual facade of confidence.
Fortunately, Narita Top Road didn't know her well enough to notice.
"Yume doesn't have a trainer. How could you not know that?" Hearing her reply, Narita Top Road's eyebrows furrowed. This was not going as she had expected.
"What do you mean? Does she think she can win the Triple Crown without a trainer?!"
Saint-King Halo's reaction was even more shocked. She backed up against the wall, pressing her lips together, her eyes unconsciously looking down, as if replaying something extremely painful in her mind.
Seeing her reaction, Narita Top Road couldn't bring herself to blame her. She told her exactly what she had heard from Trainer Okita.
"Is... that so..." After a brief silence, Saint-King Halo leaned against the wall as if her strength had left her. "Maybe Mother doesn't think the trainers at Tracen are good enough and wants to train Yume herself or hire someone better."
As a world-class horse girl, Isami Mai could certainly do that. In her view, unlike herself, whose talent was constantly criticized by their mother, the highly anticipated Celestial Weave would naturally be given such support.
"Is that really it?" Seeing Saint-King Halo's certainty, Narita Top Road could only nod hesitantly. After all, this was family who had lived with her for over a decade. She hesitated for a moment before adding, "You must be a good friend to Yume."
Then, she walked off towards the track alone.
Watching her retreating figure, Narita Top Road frowned, troubled. No matter how unfamiliar she was with her, she could sense that something was off from their conversation. But no matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't figure out what she had missed.
This lack of information wasn't her fault; after all, no one has a god's-eye view of the whole situation. In her eyes, Saint-King Halo was a good sister who cared for her younger sibling. Even if she was acting a bit strange, that fact wouldn't change. If she saw her sister's current state with her own eyes, she should be able to persuade her... right?
For some reason, an uneasy feeling lingered in her heart. Narita Top Road decided to seek help from her trainer. As an adult, as someone who knew their mother, perhaps he could give her a better answer.
Meanwhile, Saint-King Halo, filled with a mix of emotions, finally reached the track, no matter how slowly she walked. She could see the red ribbon fluttering on the lawn from a distance. Come to think of it, she was the one who had given it to her. She wondered what she would feel seeing that ribbon flying at a speed she could never hope to reach.
As she got closer, she could even see that Celestial Weave had stopped, as if she had noticed her. There was no more room to escape.
Saint-King Halo pressed her lips together and walked quickly towards her, head bowed. No matter what, she was still her older sister. She had to take responsibility. Since her friend had noticed her abnormal state, then she, as her sister, could cast aside her pointless, fragile pride.
According to Narita Top Road, she hadn't seen her rest in a long time. This kind of training would definitely break her body. So, as her sister, as family, she felt she had to take responsibility.
"Halo? What is it?"
Walking with her head down, she had unknowingly arrived in front of her sister. She looked up, about to say something, but the words died in her throat the moment she saw her face.
