Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: So-Called Precocity

After parting ways with Trainer Okita, Celestial Weave left the track and began to wander aimlessly through Tracen Academy.

Because of Isami Mai's interference, the plan she had carefully laid out had to be changed.

But without the help of a trainer, could she really complete the main mission with her own half-baked training methods?

Celestial Weave couldn't help but bite her lip. The pressure, which hadn't been so apparent before, suddenly became immense after her mother's actions.

But what was done was done. There was no point in being angry. She had to complete the main mission under these new constraints.

And to do that, she first needed to take stock of the cards she held.

With that thought, Celestial Weave silently called out, "System."

A translucent blue screen appeared before her eyes.

[Horse Girl Training System - Scenario Panel]

Character: Celestial Weave

Speed: C+ [Veteran Level]

Stamina: C [Veteran Level]

Power: D [Rising Star Level]

Guts: C+ [Veteran Level]

Intellect: D [Rising Star Level]

Aptitude: Turf A, Dirt C

Domain: Unawakened

Skills: Concentration (Blue), Tokyo Rain Swift (Purple)

Horse girls experience a period of rapid growth called "full-fledged development." The fuel for this growth, besides talent, is training experience. After nearly ten years of training, the experience Celestial Weave had accumulated transformed into tangible ability once she entered this phase.

"This is so much higher than when I didn't train in the real world," she muttered to herself, looking at the panel.

In a sense, Celestial Weave was a rather precocious horse girl; her development phase had started exceptionally early. In the real world, it was because of this growth spurt during the summer that she was able to get into Tracen Academy.

She had initially thought this was the case for all horse girls, but after comparing herself with others, she realized how special she was.

A talent like Tokai Teio only had all-D stats in her debut race, a clear sign she had just entered her development phase. The huge gap between herself and racers like Narita Top Road and Admire Vega was also because their development had only just begun.

"Precocity... I just hope I don't hit a wall later. At least, not until after I complete the main mission..."

Faced with her own abnormality, Celestial Weave couldn't help but worry. But she didn't dwell on it for long. She patted her cheeks, telling herself she didn't have time for such idle thoughts, and quickly turned her attention back to the mission.

"With these stats, winning a G3 race shouldn't be a problem."

"It would be even more certain if I could pick one at the Tokyo Racecourse."

Celestial Weave frowned, silently calculating in her mind. At the same time, she sighed. Choosing races was usually a trainer's job. Without one, she had to rely on herself.

Regardless, she set her immediate goal: win a G3 race and complete the first phase objective.

With that decided, she began to think about the subsequent missions. She remembered receiving an item after completing the initial mission. She hadn't looked at it before, but now she had to make use of every single advantage.

Mentally calling up her inventory, she looked at the medical kit-like item.

[Medical Repair Kit]

[Durability: 1/1]

[Introduction: Injuries are the bane of all horse girls. Using this kit can make the pain temporarily disappear, but you must rest properly afterward, or there could be worse consequences.

Note: "I don't want that!" —A certain horse girl with a broken bone said.]

"It has durability? So not all items are the same."

The Potential-Stimulating Potions and the Stage Ticket had been single-use. This was the first time she had seen an item with durability.

After checking the kit, she opened the Shop interface. While she needed to save up 100,000 SP for the Hope Gem, hoarding it wasn't a solution. It was better to use SP to buy items, strengthen herself, and then complete more difficult missions. Only then could she create a positive feedback loop; otherwise, she would eventually get stuck.

It was strange, but this was the first time she had properly browsed the Shop. When searching for the Hope Gem, she had just scrolled past everything else. And after entering the scenario, she had focused all her energy on basic training.

After several minutes, she finished browsing.

"I see. Most of the exchangeable items are for training and medical purposes."

"Special items like the Hope Gem have specific conditions in addition to the high SP cost."

She then looked through the list of items she could afford and picked out a few that seemed most useful.

[Tough Vine Knee Braces]

[Durability: 100/100]

[Price: 1000 SP]

[Introduction: Knee braces soaked in a special medicinal liquid that can slightly alleviate joint stress.

Note: "I used to be a horse girl like you, then I took an arrow in the knee." —A certain dorm mother at Tracen Academy.]

[Morning Dew Breathing Strip]

[Durability: 100/100]

[Price: 1000 SP]

[Introduction: A light green strip that expands the nasal blood vessels, improving breathing rhythm to some extent. May increase the speed of stamina training.

Note: "Is this the legendary breathing technique?" —A certain horse girl striking a strange pose.]

[Rock Salt Weight Bag]

[Durability: 50/50]

[Price: 1500 SP]

[Introduction: The special porous structure releases minerals with sweat, significantly improving the effect of power training, but it also increases stamina consumption.

Note: "So salty." —A certain overly curious horse girl.]

These items had much higher durability than the medical kit. If one use equaled one point of durability, the knee braces and breathing strips could be used a hundred times, and the weight bag fifty times. Although it had fewer uses, the weight bag's description mentioned a "significant" improvement, unlike the "slight" and "to some extent" of the others.

The three items cost 3500 SP in total. She left 1000 SP in reserve for any emergency medical items.

After confirming, she thought, "Exchange."

"Exchange complete."

A cold, mechanical voice sounded, and her SP count at the bottom of the Shop interface decreased accordingly.

With all that done, Celestial Weave let out a long breath.

These were all the cards she had now. And with them, she had to win the main mission's championship.
