Chapter 5 - Food for Thought

In a sense, I should have been expecting this as I tried my best to brush off the dirt and sand from myself.

I wasn't woken up by anything, which was a welcome thing to be honest with ya. So this is actually a fair trade; at least it beats trying to fight something deadly and ferocious. But it was a bit noisy, though, since a few nocturnal animals were running about.

So yeah, I was able to sleep soundly that night.

As I brush dirt and sand off myself, I then realize one thing that I didn't realize. As a living being, there are a few things that we need to survive. Water, shelter, and, most importantly of all, food. Food that I have a hard time getting due to my size and my dislike of getting into another fight.

So in a sense...how on earth do I get food?

...I guess I'll have to go vegan for a time, I don't think I'll care though, since I think my palate and sense of taste is widely different from when I was not a crab. Should get a few fruits as well, just as a snack that I can munch on later on.

Should dig up a storage area for my lair just so I could have something to eat during hard times.

So, no use trying to think these things up for now, might as well go outside and do it. Carefully, I try to locate the entrance towards the outside.

This took me a while since I was still getting used to these eyes of mine. I couldn't see all that clearly in pitch dark, only a little bit. I was annoyed by this as a bright light suddenly struck my eye.

It was blinding enough to hurt my eyes a bit, but after a few minutes, they were able to get used to it. Once my eyes were alright, I was taken aback by what I could see.

The thing was, during the nighttime, I was trying to get somewhere to sleep, so I didn't mind the area. Just some trees and bushes, no biggie...I was so wrong. As it turns out, these weren't ordinary trees, as I have come face-to-face with what I could describe as a coconut tree filled with snapping jaws and a few eyes that are mysteriously of similar shape and size to what I remember are coconuts...where in the living life of me did I end up on?!

I was sort of desensitized by this point that even though this "coconut" tree finally noticed me, I simply pinched the base of its trunk. Deafening out its shriek, it simply pulled it out of the ground like some sort of weed. To put it into perspective, I am about a few feet short of this "tree," but I was able to rip it out of the dirt it was planted in.

It trashed a bit, and with one final shriek, it stopped as its eyes looked dead.

Food acquired, I guess? Oh well. At least I got something that is between a plant-based food and meat. I ain't even picky about it, so yeah.

Might as well drag the thing back; lucky for me, it was just in front of my lair, so that's an easy task done. Good thing there weren't any viscera or blood spilling about, I guess it's really a plant or animal-like plant.

Dragging the thing was easy, the hardest part was the fact that it didn't all fit into the entrance cause of how long it is. So I had cut it up piece by piece, still no blood, but there was that sticky green goo, though, so yeah.

In about a few minutes of mentally cursing and trying to get the goo off of me, I was able to get my food for the day in my lair.

Of course, I had to dig up a sort of storage area first. Which was a pain as well, and making sure it wouldn't collapse on its own.

Couldn't make that area clean, be rid of sand and stuff, so I had to get used to having my trace amounts of sand and dirt on my food...welp. I can't be picky at this point, so I'll take it.

As I placed each piece neatly, and when I was done, I couldn't help but sort of salivate at what I had procured. I didn't even have to go so far to get what I currently needed, as it was just right at my doorstep. I guess my luck seems to have been flipped for the time being.

Yes, I know for a fact that I shouldn't rely on luck at this point, given what I have been through. However, there is also the fact that I now find myself in a completely different world from what I have ever known.

So what is normal for me would have been once again is screwed to who knows what.

Honestly, the weird plant/animal? Whatever it was, it was a dead giveaway. I wonder what it tastes like?

So with that, I picked up a piece, which was the trunk of it, and took a nibble of it. My mouth is a bit weird since it was a combination of a jaw and a crab's jaw. To give further details about my anatomy, I'll explain it.

First, the top part is in a sort of jaw, or in this case, the front jaw, while the second one is a crab's jaw...yes, it looks and feels so odd. The front jaw felt like I was using my incisor teeth and lips, while the crab one felt like my molars.

...I guess now I know why I felt weird during the time I was being changed.

At least this thing I am taking a bite of tastes fruity, though. Like a mix of meat and coconut, actually, which is messing with my mind a bit since I think I was used to eating something like that, but not mixed thoroughly into one thing. Oh well.

As such, I continue to eat until I feel full.
