The trudge back to my lair took a bit since I had gotten a bit lost and just decided to go to the shoreline, where I would be able to easily see where my lair is and walk back to my den.
That was one of the most annoying things that had happened to me. I don't remember a few, but I know for a fact that I had some. That will bug me for the rest of my life, now I guess. One of the few things that I hate about being forced to forget who I once was.
I have forgotten my name, the very thing that my parents have given me has now been forgotten by their sad excuse of a son. Well, at least I didn't forget that fact about me. Even though that part of me feels weird.
...having past recollection as a human being sucks when you suddenly become a crab...as a mammal, though I guess people would be comfortable as that, then either a bird, fish, reptile, and of course a crustacean...Again, I hate this.
I recall a few stories about something called rebirth or reincarnation or something. Those always tell fun and wonderful stories about the characters' adventures in a new world...I guess those things lied as well.
Who am I kidding? Those stories are just the imagination of either a middle-aged person or a way too overeager young man whose thoughts are just about the opposite sex. I think I remember hating those things...I guess I still hate them.
Huh, who knew that talking to yourself is cathartic? Wait, I know that if you talk to yourself too much, that is the sign that something is wrong with you?...don't care about that though, since I am in a place where that seems to be the lesser problem.
My top priority now is the fact that I need to survive in this hell of a hole place filled with who knows what. Wait, that's a lie, I know that this place is filled with deadly plants and animals. The evidence is those coconut things to my left.
"KU!KU!kUkU!uk!U!kuk!"
...Okay, to add in a few details, these things actually make a sound, but they are ear-grating and are so annoying to listen to. Sadly, I do not have the capabilities of being able to shut my ears off, so I had to make do with not minding their noise...even though it's annoying.
With the sounds of a weird plant animal thing, I continued towards my lair.
Aside from the usual stuff, the water is still barren of any living thing. Not even a single small fish, which would not have been obvious due to my encounter with the eel, if it weren't for the fact that even the tiniest fish or heck, crustaceans wouldn't be barren from the sea.
Something must have happened for it to be like this.
...I should keep that thought for the time being. Right now I need to get back to my home.
Looking around, I try to see if I can find anything familiar to me. Aside from it being close to the shoreline, there should be a decent boulder close by that thing.
That took a while, but in the end, I was able to find where it was.
I should have been happy if it weren't for the fact that there was something close by that ruined what joy I felt.
There, right by the shoreline, a massive creature was slowly moving towards the forest at a relative pace, all things considered.
Its appearance bears a resemblance to a sea urchin, but that's where the similarities begin to change, as its spikes were just the size of a tree trunk, which was something that made me afraid, as those look extremely deadly. It also had several long, prehensile eye stalks that were just swaying around searching for something, I don't know what, though.
As for its feet, it had several tentacle-like feet as it moved about the place. It didn't move that fast, yet given its size, it didn't have to worry a thing.
But I have every right to be afraid, as its features and anatomy are something that I will have a hard time dealing with. These types of things are hard to deal with.
Any close-quarters combat would just mean that I have to deal with those spikes. I did have a robust carapace, but with how sharp those things are, I do not have the confidence to even try that. That shout I did would not even have worked, as I think that it's only effective underwater and not here above.
There goes my sure way to get out of this encounter. At least that is the only thing that I cannot use for now. What a shame still.
Maybe I could just try to bait the thing to leave? Why is it even here in the first place? There isn't a single thing that would...oh...I think I got it.
Looking at its eyes, I traced them towards where they are pointing towards. It was those coconut tree beings that I would always harvest and eat. I guess that it just went out of sea to get some here.
But why didn't the Eel try to fight it? The spikes may have been the answer, but that thing tried to kill me even though some parts of me are filled with spikes and all.
These things spikes must be strong if that's the case...but how on earth can it breathe air? Weird biology, I guess. Nothing has been normal in this place besides those monkeys, I guess.
Either way, I should get a few of those coconut things and place them somewhere to lead that thing out of the vicinity of my lair. Don't want that thing to ruin what I have been able to create at this point in this new life of mine.
