Chapter 10 - Doing A Bit of Renovation

With a rest well deserved, I was able to function somewhat properly as I ate a few pieces of the coconut things I had cut up and stored. After that, I went up to the surface and once more inspected the area.

Yesterday I had to rip out quite a lot of those coconut things just to clear out the area of them. Didn't want any sort of thing to just come up to shore and be enticed by those things. What are they some sort of tasty food that these things like to eat? They do taste like meat mixed with coconut. The coconut aftertaste ruins the taste for me, though.

As such, I need to check whether or not there are more spurts about the place, and I wasn't wrong with that thought in my mind, as there were a few that popped up. I couldn't believe that some were just able to appear right here and now, even though I just culled at least ten of them yesterday.

So with that, I then began with the culling as I approached the nearest one and pulled it out. It shrieked and died; they always do this, but I block that shriek out of my mind as I walked sideways towards the pile I had made.

Walking like this feels like I am walking a bit faster than walking forward. It feels so weird doing that, but I didn't mind it at all.

Once I was there, I stopped as I could see a few birds were actually there and some monkeys as well, gorging themselves on the pile of those coconut things. The birds looked similar to a seagull, which is odd since this would be the second thing that isn't so weird in this place, besides the monkeys, speaking of which. Those monkeys were similar to the ones I have found in the forest/jungle, but their tail are white.

I guess what I had concluded that these Coconut things are quite enticing is correct, since this scene before me proves it.

Oh well, I guess I could just throw this one I am holding into a pile for these animals to dispose of it. But then I soon realized something, as with this many animals all gathering up in this area, wouldn't that mean that something else might be attracted to the scent this pile has?

... Maybe I should dig a hole for now...yes, that would be the right choice for now.

With that, I first set the coconut thing that I was carrying to the side and started to dig a large hole big enough to fill about a dozen pieces of that coconut thing. This will take some time to do since I still have a few more to throw away once I am done plucking them out.

I did a conical shape to go easy on myself, since I didn't want to just dig a straight hole, since this piece would just get stuck there. So I have chosen this shape just so as to be easy on myself. I would place these coconut things in a row, and place a few grains of sand and dirt to cover. Once that's done, then I'll do it again and again until I can't place anymore.

It took a while for me to finish making the hole and make sure that it is big enough, as I had planned. That and some of the sand falling down the hole made it hard for me to finish it. I sort of cursed a lot when that happened since I had to do it again and again.

This was a sort of thing that a man once said, I think, something about repeating something again and again to see if there is a solution that leads to insanity. But that context does not hold in this situation since it was just physical labor and not any sort of experiment.

So once I was done with the hole, I then went back to the pile only to find that there was now a whole flock of birds as well as a troop of monkeys all ripping pieces of the coconut things.

It was amazing and terrifying to see it up close. Kinda like a group of piranhas chowing down on some meat. But that was where the amazing part, the terrifying part, was the fact that it looked like a massacre as birds and monkeys were at each other's throats. As in, they were either biting, scratching, pecking, and smacking each other to the death.

What the earth am I looking at right now? Is food in this place hard to come by, with how they are ripping each other apart?

I would've let them be with the pile since they will just do my job for me. But with how much I do not want to encounter something worse than this, the way it is way higher. So I did the next best thing, as I approached it, and with my left pincher held high, I smack it right in front of the pile.

Sand and a bit of dirt exploded from where I smacked my pincher. It was a bit strong since it looked like an explosion of a stick of dynamite. But it worked as the chaos stopped, and fear soon forced its way into them as they scuttled back to the forest/jungle, really need to know whether or not it's a jungle or not. A jungle, I guess.

Once they were gone, I then proceeded to throw these things into the hole I had just made. One after the other, the pile slowly disappears...except for the dead monkeys and birds...

Not gonna lie, I was tempted to store them in my storage along with the pieces of coconut things. But I simply throw them as well into the hole.

I know it was a waste of food, but with how much I do not want to catch something's attention, I opted to just throw it along with the rest. Plus, I still have some food left in my storage. Speaking of which.

With that, I went back to my lair to have some lunch, I guess, once I was done filling up the hole with the sand and dirt I had dug up.
