Chapter 16 - Field Test

To say the least, I was a bit giddy with the finished product that was my two weapons. Excited enough to try and smash everything in sight. Which I would have if I were younger and rather impulsive, I guess...still having a hard time recalling that memory when all I see is a foggy one.

...Anyway, I did, however, think of using them on those coconut things, since those would be easy to test with. As the days go on, the more they seem to be spawning around the place. I thought of checking where I had plucked them, and I did a couple of times, but all I saw was just sand and dirt and nothing else.

The biology of these things is weirder than anything I know of. Aside from the Eel and the Urchin, though the spider isn't one since it was just ginormous, and the only weird anatomy it had was those claws at the end of its legs. Same for those snakes, too, I guess.

What in the heck did I get myself into?... I kept questioning myself about that question each day. I am starting to hate myself for rambling for so long...I am so deeply bored being all alone.

Oh well, isolation does make a person go mad from time to time since all you have is your own twisted and, in my case, foggy mind to keep yourself company...I need to find something to keep me entertained...oh wait!

I forgot about my two weapons! I was going to test them out when I was rambling in my mind.

Anyway, I should start testing it out on some of those coconut things right now.

So with one test swing, I slowly move towards one of the coconut things, a rather tall one. Reeling my right arm back with my makeshift club, I swung it at the base with all of my might.

"CCCCRRAKKKKKKK!'

A loud crack and crunch filled the area as bits and pieces of the coconut things flew all around the place. The top part with its eyes and mouth suddenly went still, and I could see its eyes go dead instantly as it fell to the ground, as sand flew up around me.

I was stunned for a bit as once more I was not expecting myself to be so strong. But at least I was able to test this weapon of mine out. Powerful force and sharp edge gave this club a lethal edge that would cause death to a lot of things. I am really grateful for making this weapon now.

Next is the shield made from the urchin shell I have. With its sharp spike and round frame, the more I look at it, the more it looks unyielding. I noticed that it bears more resemblance to a punching glove than a shield...but at least the spikes add in that defensive edge of a shield.

I mean, who in their right mind would try and hit something covered in spikes, especially bare-handed and bare-fanged even. So long as my opponent does not have a strong bite or attack, then I am fine.

I wonder if it is conductive, though? I hope not, since this is just a shell, though.

Oh, speaking of it resembling a punching glove. I could use it like one, I guess.

As such, I look for another coconut thing and once more, reeling my left arm back as far back as I can. I then released it and struck the lower base of the coconut thing, which, like the first one, exploded into bits while the top part was sent flying towards who knows where, since it went towards the jungle.

I knew for sure that any sort of animal would go nuts for that part. Given how diverse and powerful some of the animals deep in the jungle are, I know for sure that it would be a bloodbath still regardless of who gets it first.

...Now that I have tested just how useful these two are, I should now try it with some sort of technique, I guess...although how on earth would I be able to do that with this sort of body, since all of the techniques I sort of remember are human-based based though...ah! that slugger strikes I did to that eel is a technique though so maybe I could try and change a few things on that technique to suit a crab-like physique.

Now, the one weapon-based technique I remembered the most was the one called Arnis or Eskrima/Kali. But I only knew about, I guess, the middle part since I have not yet gone to the professional level.

At least I still remember a few things about it in my combat class, by which I could adapt that into different weapon techniques. Before that, I might have to try and see if my new body can do those types of moves. The first of which is to spin an Arnis, or in this case, my club, with my hand.

Now here is the part where it gets tricky, as an Arnis or Eskrima Stick is light enough to do that. It is also well-balanced, so it wouldn't be hard to do. But a club has most of its weight at the front, which means that doing that would be redundant at this point.

So it breaks my altered heart to do this, but I will have to stop myself from doing that and stick to a normal swing for now. But if I've grown accustomed to my new physique, then I might be able to do it again... Huh, I guess I love using and doing Arnis to keep it from being foggy, like my other old memories...I really hate this fact even more now that I realize it.

Welp, there goes my excitement, soiled by my own doing.

...maybe testing my "shield" would make me a bit happy...

With that, I reeled my left arm back and unleashed a full, forced "punch" at a boulder that was beside me. The sound of a blast and something shattering filled my altered ears as dust and debris fell around me...okay, that sort of made me happy a bit...
