Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

Chartreuse…Tuesday…

The forest was emanating a scary vibe that sat well with me but what didn't sit well with me was what I couldn't point out.

I had stopped moving in the air as I had felt a shift in the energy around me. Of course, I was about to be attacked but when I heard laughter coming from a distance, I instantly knew my attackers were hyenas; were-hyenas.

Hyenas were known as rogue lycanthropes. They are usually out to hunt other animals even werewolves but they also have mates. It is usually seen as a curse to be mated to one of them.

I tapped on my present emotion and I am surprised it is not anger. I had so many emotions to tap from. Fear, doubt and another strange emotion I couldn't understand.

Well, I had no time for that after seeing the creatures come out. Since we were made to believe they were illusions, I had nothing to be afraid about. Despite that, my emotion of fear didn't waver.

I tapped on the emotion and the wind around the area blew wildly.

A hyena growled and I growled too, showing off my set of sharp teeth after transformation. It snapped its teeth at me and I did so too. Seeing it couldn't scare me, it bent low and jumped up high, wanting to pounce on me but I dodged to the side and used my now elongated nails to cut through his skin.

I never expected blood to seep out from the wound. The beast was supposed to wither since it was an illusion.

Could it be that some beasts came around to find what to eat and saw me instead?

Shit! I better run.

My transformed self had faltered and I took to my heels immediately. Hyenas were faster runners than Ganeths so it didn't take long before one of them pounced on me biting into my neck.

I screamed and fell on the ground. Another hyena joined in the feast on my neck, reaping my clothes off like a wild beast that he was. I tied hitting them with my arm but one of them caught my arm by his teeth, ripping out good flesh from it.

I screamed.

'Am I gonna die like this?'

"Definitely not, sugar." A voice said and the hyenas jumped of my body. I couldn't even stand up and my wounds were not healing.

Beverly and Sandra came in sight; "She is the one you want to kill, huh?" Beverly said. She didn't look nerdy anymore. Her face looked evil without her glasses.

"Definitely."

"What?" I said in a hush but that was a struggle.

"Surprised? I never liked you Chartreuse and I have always tried to find a way to kill you. Did you know I was the one who lured you to the underground dungeon at the Gillhug Museum?" Sandra smiled.

I frowned and I immediately tapped on my anger and tried to stand up but Beverly pushed me down with her boot. She took out a tiny bottle filled with dark green liquid and another with light green liquid.

"This is Darken. The potion we were working on yesterday. So choose, do you want to become a dead body or you want to become an empty vessel for living souls."

"Idiot, that will happen to you."

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. I am a death soul, sweetheart. I could make all that repercussions stand on you and nothing will happen to me." She opened the bottles "Since you don't want to choose, I will use both."

She poured the two liquids on me and hell, they burnt like acid. I screamed, my lungs getting strained that my voice cracked.

"Is she gonna die?" Sandra asked.

"No." Beverly said nonchalantly and Sandra glared at her.

"That wasn't what we agreed."

"You said 'you wanted to get rid of her' you were never specific how. I only did it in a way that I don't get ruined."

"You idiot! You came to me telling me you wanted to help me kill Chartreuse." Sandra yelled and I swear I saw Beverly's eyes change color.

She laughed out darkly and grabbed Sandra by her neck; "I remember that I said I would help you take care of Chartreuse, sweetheart. That could mean anything. I just needed a perfect connection to carry out my deeds. Now you can play the role of a cooling catalyst for the burning incense of a living body." She threw Sandra at me and she screamed immediately her body made contact with mine.

Slowly, my vision failed me. I couldn't see clearly any longer but I could hear Beverly say some words.

"This way, I can finally bring back my beloved. It was worth the wait."

And with that, my brain shut down.

Beverly walked away from the place where Chartreuse laid. Some parts of her skin was burnt and Sandra's body was no where to be seen. All that was left were her ash remains.

Sandra was dead and so was Chartreuse.

Beverly wasn't a young ghost. She was an ancient one and had lived long enough to know that teachers will never teach their students this trick with the darken.

To bring back a lost one, you would need a ghostly creature who would do the ritual but not just that. You would have to get two persons with a strong connection. One will be poured the two mixtures of the darken while the other will serve as a cooling catalyst for the living incense. With this, a life will be traded for a life.

Although, the ritual wasn't complete…yet. She just had to exercise patience.

Hearing the approaching sounds of footsteps. Beverly threw dust in the air and disappeared.

Hirsch and some others came around due to the screams they heard earlier. Seeing the dead body of a student, Hirsch immediately left the place to inform Sean.

Chartreuse…Friday…

Light…I felt light.

I looked around, trying to understand why I felt strange. I realized that I was in the school clinic but why and how I got here, I couldn't remember.

I tried to sit up but fell back. My limbs were too weak to do a thing and I heaved a sigh of frustration.

"I am shocked." I heard a voice and then, Daphne came into view and so did Mr. Daryn and Mr. Sean.

"What happened?" I croaked, my head hurting.

Daphne looked at Mr. Sean and Mr. Daryn; "She can't remember anything."

"What are you guys talking about? What happened? Why am I here?"

"You were attacked on Tuesday during the practice for the upcoming inter-school hunt." Mr. Sean explained.

A flash memory hit me and I groaned, instinctively holding my head.

"Are you alright?" Daphne asked me and I nodded.

"You need to rest…"

"No tell me what happened. I feel so strange and I can't remember anything." I croaked.

"You were attacked by someone. Claw marks were seen on you body and your clothes were ripped. Deep bite wounds were on both sides of your neck and some parts of your skin were burnt like what seemed like acid. We traced everything to were-hyenas and the darken potion. You are no longer same, Chartreuse."
