Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight

Evan…Monday…

"Since when did you start bothering about Chartreuse?"

I sighed inwardly. Yeah, since when. I have been worried about her without even knowing it and now I brought up a topic about her obliviously.

"I am not bothered about Chartreuse, Sherry. It's just that the news about her is everywhere. One would definitely be curious." I said.

Sheridan shrugged; "It better be as you say, Evan. I am also curious but worried about Chartreuse. It's been like forever since we last spoke. I will consider checking on her today." She said, mostly speaking to herself than me. The bell rung "I better be off, Evan. I have Social Studies this morning. Chartreuse might attend classes today so tell her about your sudden 'curiousity'" Sheridan winked and walked away.

I turned back to my locker and opened it. The bloodlust came back renewed and I clawed at my locker, struggling to hold it back. My spine hurt and I bit into my palm to drink my blood. I wasn't sure if that would work but I had to hurt myself so another person wouldn't get hurt.

Hopefully, I calmed down a bit. I took my books out of my locker, closed it and wore my hoodie. My eyes would be orange by now.

I got to class late but Mr. Rene didn't say anything. He already knows what had happened. I just located my favorite spot at the back of the class. I sat down, taking deep breaths to calm down. It just felt like I could here the every heartbeat of everyone in this room and it was giving me a migraine.

"Are you alright?" I heard a familiar voice say beside me. I turned my head a bit to look at the person and realized it was Daphne.

"I am not." I whispered.

"Blood lust, right?" She asked in a whisper too and I nodded "I will give you blood at the end of the class." I nodded again and watched her sit back. My eyes widened a bit. Chartreuse was seated looking at me. She looked away the moment she realized I caught her staring. She looked…different.

Or no, felt different.

There didn't seem to be any physical change in her body except that her skin was paler now.

I looked away and tried to concentrate. Thankfully, the class ended and I rushed out of the class. Daphne came after me and she pulled me into the locker room.

"You look very pale. Have you been eating and sleeping well?" She asked, looking around for something.

"I can't sleep anymore. Food doesn't seem appetizing any longer." I said. I haven't gone to the Cafeteria since that day. All I ever think of is blood.

"I can't find any sharp object." She looked at me and placed her hand in front of my mouth "Drink from me."

I frowned; "Don't play insane, Daphne. I am not gonna do that."

She groaned out, pinching the skin in between her brows.

"When I told you I would give you some after class, what were you thinking?"

"I thought you had a blood bag or something…"

"A blood bag? What do I look like to you? A desperate vampire? Even the cook wouldn't let me have a blood bag." She yelled.

"I am not gonna drink from you." I said, ready to leave but she held me by my wrist.

"Look, Lurans are not vampires. You need fresh blood to keep you sane for a fairly long time. Taking cold blood will not satisfy you and once you've tasted it, you can't control yourself." I faced her and she placed her wrist close to my lips "Drink from me."

I frowned, ready to turn away but she held me firmly.

"Please…"

She was begging now?

I couldn't. I might lose it and kill her. My parents wouldn't let me off if I did. They wanted me to marry her but I didn't want that. We just maintained a relationship of acquaintances.

The bell rung and I freed myself from her hold with a little struggle.

"I am sorry, Daphne but I won't." I turned and opened the door. Chartreuse fell on my chest.

Geez! This girl had been eavesdropping.

"Uuh…"

I pushed her away and walked out. I had to get my books from my locker. My chest was hurting now and I could feel the vines tearing through my inner wear and wrapping around my body so goddamn slowly.

I staggered my way to my class. My mind wasn't straight anymore. I just kept thinking about Daphne's tempting offer to drink her blood. I regret now. I regret not drinking her blood.

'With your bloodlust comes sexual hunger. The very day you lose it is the very day you become a demon.'

I never understood what 'my father' meant by those words…not until now.

I pushed open the door of my class and walked in slowly, drawing everyone's attention. It was a pin drop silence and I began to wonder if a prince was walking behind me.

I finally sat down and it took the teacher few minutes to resume his lectures. Charles who I didn't know I sat close to whispered to me.

"Are you alright?" I nodded, still keeping my head down. I couldn't look up because the heartbeats I was hearing was taunting. I was scared that if I looked up, I would tear my way into someone's throat.

Now I understand why Lurans are considered dangerous demons.

Classes went by quickly and it was finally recess. When Daphne saw me, she excused herself from Sheridan, Chartreuse and Jinx. I turned away, facing my locker. I felt her hand in my back. A thought crossed my mind; to grab her by her wrist and drink her blood till she is nothing but bone and flesh but I waved it off.

"Leave me alone." I told her.

"The vines are already grown. You need bl…"

"I will just visit the school clinic, Daphne." I said.

"I only want to help. I am trying to help. If you keep running away from my offer you might end up losing it. Take me as you personal host. You can feed from me anytime you want." She said. I grunted and started walking away. I had to be injected once again.

"Evan." She ran after me. She was really insane to have brought out such an offer. It was tempting. The thought of having fresh blood everytime I wanted it was taunting.

Students who saw us began muttering. Everyone knew that my parents wanted me to marry Daphne. So seeing her chasing me would definitely give them ideas.

"Evan." She called after me but I walked faster. She finally caught up "Drink from me, Evan. You are killing yourself." I continued ignoring her, trying my utmost best not to get angry.

I pushed open the door into the school clinic and that clearly scared Dr. Fred.

"What's going on?"

"Inject me immediately." I ordered. My fangs were painfully elongating and the vines wrapped around me were tightening.

"He needs blood. He has been resisting." Daphne yelled.

Dr. Fred looked confused but the glare I gave him made him search for his equipments.
