Chapter 18 - The Stranger Who Stared

Time never waits for anyone—not even for those whose hearts have been shattered beyond repair.

It was now the year 2010.

Denial had changed. Or at least, he was trying to.

He wasn't the same terrifying presence people once whispered about. No more blood-stained legends, no more midnight screams. He had learned to suppress the monster inside—at least in front of the world.

He taught himself how to smile in meetings, how to appear "normal", how to walk among humans without their hearts skipping in fear. He tried to become someone society could accept.

Meanwhile, the world around him was changing too.

The thick, wild forests were slowly being cut down. Concrete buildings, highways, and modern infrastructures were rising in their place. Cities were swallowing nature.

But there was still one place untouched—

The ancient, sprawling land where Denial's old mansion stood.

There, the jungle still thrived.

And so did the wild animals.

Which is why… Denial never had to search far for animal blood to survive. He fed only when he must, and always away from human eyes.

By day, he was the owner of multi-million-dollar enterprises, a man with endless meetings, boardrooms, and deals.

By night… he was still a broken soul—haunted, hunted, hollow.

The darkness of every night reminded him of Eva's smile and Ren's laughter.

And every night, like a ritual, Denial would fall on his knees in the silence of his vast, cold mansion and cry out to the heavens—

> "Please… let me die now. I beg you, take this curse away from me…"

But as always, God remained silent.

The stars above showed no mercy.

He was left unanswered.

Unseen.

Alone.

And so the years passed… in silence, in pain, in memories.

Until one day—

Something changed.

That day, Denial had gone to a high-end lounge bar to finalize a major business deal. The place was luxurious, filled with chatter, soft jazz, and laughter. But none of it touched Denial. He was there only for business.

He was speaking to one of his long-term business partners, discussing shares, expansions, and mergers… when his eyes suddenly caught something strange.

Or rather… someone.

Across the room, standing near the polished bar counter, was a young woman. Her presence didn't scream for attention, but her eyes… her eyes hadn't left Denial for even a second.

She was staring.

Not casually, not shyly—but with a bold intensity. As if she knew him.

As if she had been waiting for him.

As if… she could see straight into his soul.

Denial paused mid-sentence, his sharp senses instantly alert. He slowly walked toward her. People around moved out of his way as usual—his aura was still as commanding as ever.

The girl didn't flinch.

He stood in front of her, tilted his head slightly, and said in a calm, low voice—

> "Miss, is there something you'd like to say to me?"

She blinked, her lips parting slightly. But no words came out.

Just that same stare—curious, lost, and oddly familiar.

And for the first time in years… Denial's heart felt something.

Not love. Not hope.

But... a spark.

A whisper.

A disturbance in the silence he had buried himself in.

Something was about to change.
