After leaving the Mouri Detective Agency, Shiraishi E ducked into a small alley. As he walked down the narrow path toward the main street, he took off his jacket and turned it inside out. He had previously had his Teitan High school uniform modified into a reversible jacket. Worn normally, it was his school uniform; reversed, it became a plain black jacket.
Next, Shiraishi E put on the Azu mask, concealing the upper half of his face. His entire demeanor changed.
After emerging from the alley, he was just a few steps from the main road. Despite his wanted-man appearance, he didn't attract much attention from passersby. Tokyo had plenty of eccentrically dressed young people who were keen on all sorts of strange outfits, some even mimicking wanted criminals. So, he wasn't worried about being spotted.
Shiraishi E saw someone hailing a taxi. Just as the person opened the door to get in, he slipped past them, got into the car, and shut the door behind him.
"Hey, kid, first come, first served!" the driver frowned, clearly disliking the move.
"Get out," Shiraishi E said, pulling out a Glock and pressing it to the driver's head.
"Y-You... calm down!" The cold touch of the metal sent the driver into a panic. He had never been in a situation like this before. He quickly stammered, "I... I'll get out right now!!"
Fumbling, he unbuckled his seatbelt and scrambled out of the car. The driver watched as the masked man climbed into the driver's seat, buckled up, and floored the accelerator, speeding off towards the Beika Pier. He hastily pulled out his phone to call the police, but suddenly, with a loud smack, the phone was shot out of his hand. He jumped in fright, and any thought of calling the police vanished.
Half an hour before the official transaction was set to begin, Shiraishi E arrived at the Beika Pier. He found a place to hide the car and then met up with Akemi.
Akemi led him into a warehouse, up to a storage room on the second floor. Through the window, they could see the open area outside.
Akemi whispered, "I was at a bar earlier. I used the listening device you gave me to overhear a conversation in a private room. Someone is going to conduct a transaction here!"
"They said the amount is very large!"
Shiraishi E said with some excitement, "Really? Then we've got a score to settle."
Akemi couldn't help but remind him, "The people involved are from the Nisan-kai gang. If they find out..."
Before she could finish, Shiraishi E cut her off. "Then we just have to make sure they don't find out! Just watch from the side and don't worry!"
Seeing his confidence, Akemi said no more.
They didn't have to wait long. Vehicles started arriving one after another—some sedans, some vans. One, two, three, four... a total of seven vehicles! Nearly fifty men got out of the seven cars.
On the other side, fewer vehicles arrived—six in total. About fifty men also got out of those cars. The empty space was suddenly crowded with over a hundred people.
Akemi was stunned. She explained nervously, "I only knew there was a transaction here, I didn't know so many people would come!!"
"With this many people... maybe we should give up this time?"
Shiraishi E chuckled. He waved his hand to calm Akemi down. "Relax, what's there to be afraid of with just this many people?"
"Besides, what era are we in? Do numbers even matter?"
"It's useless! Look at what they're holding—either baseball bats or pipes. They barely have any machetes!"
"With this little firepower, they're not even worth looking at."
Hearing him say that, Akemi felt it made sense. Not to mention the submachine gun he had shown her last time. The unease in her heart disappeared.
Shiraishi E observed for a moment and noticed both groups were quite organized. He asked, "Which side belongs to the Nisan-kai?"
Akemi explained, "They're all from the Nisan-kai."
This puzzled Shiraishi E. "If they're all on the same side, why are they making a deal so secretively in a place like this?"
Akemi continued, "Although they're all from the Nisan-kai, they work under different bosses. A while ago... the head of the Nisan-kai disappeared, and they've been fighting among themselves ever since!"
Shiraishi E finally understood what was going on.
At that moment, he saw some underlings start unloading boxes from the cars, while the other side brought over several travel cases.
Shiraishi E's eyes lit up with anticipation. "The deal is starting! I need to get moving. You wait here; it's my turn to perform."
Without waiting for Akemi's reaction, he eagerly left the storage room. No man can refuse a good, hearty fight. Shiraishi E was no exception.
"Be careful," Akemi couldn't help but call out. It was partly out of concern, but also worry that something might go wrong. If he died, she would have to go back to robbing banks.
As he went downstairs, Shiraishi E selected a suitable weapon. After coming down, he didn't just swagger out. He was worried he might mess up. This was his first official operation. If he failed here or got injured, his cool image would be ruined.
So, he chose a sneak attack!
Shiraishi E quietly approached the entrance and saw that the men were already starting to count their goods. He raised the two grenade launchers he had just bought, aimed at the crowd, and pulled the triggers without hesitation.
Thump, thump!
The grenades exploded in the crowd with a loud boom, knocking down a large group of them.
Without a moment's hesitation, Shiraishi E continued to fire. The dull thuds of the launchers and the sounds of explosions echoed one after another.
The men at the transaction site screamed in agony. "Run! Run!"
"We're under attack!!"
"Where are they? Where are they?!"
"Ah!! My leg, my leg!!"
"Find cover! Hide behind the cars!!"
Amidst the attack, some were clever enough to call for others to find cover. Shiraishi E watched them all scramble to hide behind the cars.
This made him sneer. "You and your cover are equally pathetic."
He turned his weapon and fired a grenade at one of the cars.
BOOM!
The car and the men behind it exploded together.
