Chapter 4 - School?

 [3rd POV]

Dinner was a precarious thing in the Bakugo household.

For more families, it was a time of peace and quiet where all family members came together after a tiresome day of work. They shared how they spent their days, what they hoped for in the future. It was a time and place where life was sustained through food while the heart basked in the bond shared between the people at the dinner table.

Everyone worked to put food on the table after all.

At least that's what Masaru Bakugo had heard. Born in an orphanage, he never had such privilege. And when he finally had a family, the dinners they shared were usually quite the opposite.

"Katsuki, CHEW!!"

Masaru Bakugo watched as two of the same people bickered at the dinner table. His son, like alwasy, preferred inhaling food as quickly as possible. He was sure his wife fed their son lunch and even some snacks before dinner.

But his son alwasy ate his food like a man who had starved on an island for years.

After a smack in the head, Katsuki begrudgingly chewed his food. He chewed, mouth wide open as if to show off that he was indeed chewing his food.

"Chew at least seven times," his wife said.

"Grrrrr....one, two, three..." his son counted while chewing his food.

Another violent smack, and yet Masaru didn't even blink, treating the physical abuse as if it was air.

"Chew with your mouth closed. And you don't have to count!"

Masaru imagined seeing his son's head exploding like a volcano from his mother's nitpicking. But the son was quiet as he angrily chewed. From repetition, Masaru knew something else was coming up, but he wasn't sure what just yet.

So he just watched.

He didn't have to wait long, as eventually, his son bit at the ceramic spoon and completely crushed it between his teeth.

The loud crunching sound made everything else silent as the two parents turned to him.

Under their gaze, Katsuki froze and acted as if nothing had happened. He chewed the spoon loudly in his mouth a few times. Each time, the sound echoed through the household.

And then he tried to swallow it.

"Don't swallow evidence!!" his mother smacked him at the back of his head, causing all the contents in his mouth to fly and land on Masaru.

No matter. Masaru simply took the wet wipes he had on the table. He wasn't even surprised. Such an incident was common in every household, right?

The mother scolded her son angrily. Masaru knew just how much his wife loved her perfect ceramic kitchenware. On the other hand, his son was arguing with her about how it was just a spoon and why he knew chewing was stupid because of this.

Masaru simply smiled at the scene.

He knew he was alwasy a bit submissive towards his wife. She was a hot-headed woman after all. She was hot-headed just as she was hot in appearance.

But he would never expect that his genes would be submissive too. It was like his genes didn't even try. Bakugo was a carbon copy of his mother, both in appearance and personality.

Masaru didn't mind, of course. He loved his wife. And the fact that his son was a carbon copy of her only made him glad.

He only wished his wife and son could see how alike they were.

"That's it. I'm not your son," Katsuki declared confidently. "No mother beats their child as you do to me."

"What are you talking about?"

"You must've stolen me! Like Rapunzel! I was supposed to be the king of a kingdom!" Katsuki declared, standing on his chair.

4-year-olds sure have a lot of energy. But what was alwasy impressive was his wife matching it.

Another argument ensued about their blood relation.

"You know what? Fine! I admit, you are not my son!" Mitsuki declared at last.

Katsuki seemed taken aback, muttering, "I knew it. I knew this old witch cannot be my mother. She stole me from my rightful throne!!"

"Don't get ahead of yourself, brat! Your mother was an ogre," Mitsuki said.

"WHAT! Don't insult my mother!" Katsuki said quickly, "Your real son must be as ugly as you! That's why you stole me!"

"You got everything from your mother! Ungrateful, short-tempered brat!"

"Your real son's an idiot!"

And they continued, forgetting all about food.

Masaru watched them go on and on. But the scene never matched the smile on his face. He alwasy looked ahead, eating slowly and enjoying the show. He wondered when they would realise their similarity and also the fact that they were insulting themselves.

He had heard other families had a quiet and peaceful dinner.

He pitied them.

Because no matter what you say, Masaru wouldn't have his family dinner any other way.

[1st POV]

"So I was thinking....." my father trailed off after we finished dinner and ate fruits for dessert in the living room.

"It's about time Katsuki goes to school,"

The words triggered something in me, and I smashed the apple in my hand.

"NO!!!" I said, slamming the table.

Both of my parents looked at me weirdly after my outburst.

I did not know why I reacted so aggressively either. I assumed school was similar to preschool, which I never liked. I had to do some mean shit just to get expelled and be black listed on every preschool near our area.

"What? Don't you want to go to school, Katsuki?" my father asked with a tilt.

Did I? I wasn't sure. Wait, was this the influence of that loser I ate? Why did I hate school without even going there?

"I heard there is bullying there," I said in the end, "Aren't you concerned?"

My father blinked and then grabbed his chin thoughtfully.

"Hmmm....not really? I don't think you are the type to be bullied easily," he said in the end.

"I meant, aren't you concerned about the other kids?"

A smack came before I could prepare, leaving a hot lump on my head.

"You will do no such things!" my mother raged.

"I didn't even say anything! Besides, this is a dog-eat-dog world! If you are not a bully, you will be bullied!" I said.

Another smack.

"No son of mine will be a bully!"

I clutched my head and rolled around the floor in pain.

And while I was down as a fallen soldier, my parents discussed about sending me to school. They didn't even ask for my consent.

...

So I went to school after a few months.

"Come on, smile!" my parents said while standing together in the yard.

I was wearing my uniform, and today was going to be my first day in school. Although I didn't want to, I was curious about this so-called prison for kids.

I gave my best smile towards the camera.

Silence.

"On second thought, maybe don't smile? You look evil," my mother said.

I felt a tick on my head and my smile somehow became even uglier.

"Maybe close your eyes?"

I did, begrudingly. I also wanted a good photo to remember this day.

"Maybe don't show your teeth?"

I thinned my lips.

"Maybe lose your curving lips?"

"Just take the goddamn photo, old witch!" I yelled, already at my tipping point.

"What did you call me!! It's not my fault that you have no childish innocence in you!" my mother yelled back, showing a fist.

Physical and mental abuse. One day, I am going to find my real mother for sure.

"Wait," my mother suddenly perked up, "I have an idea."

My mother came up to me. She fixed my posture, my hair and my uniform before she turned me around, facing away from the camera.

"Okay, stay just like this," she said, and after she moved away, I could hear the click of the camera.

Again, I felt a tick on my head. Who even takes a photo like this? It wouldn't show my face at all.

"That's it! That's good!" I could hear my parents say.

Finally losing it, I dropped my bag and launched at the two demons I call parents.

Suffice it to say, it was an eventful first day from the very start.

When the photo was finally framed to put in our house, I realised that they hadn't used the photo of only my back. It was a proper photo of my face showing an evil-looking smile.

"How could you!" was my only reaction to them framing such a bad-looking photo.

Am I somehow All For One's son?

Why did I look like a villain even as a child?
