Chapter 6 - Bakugo is retarded

[1st POV]

It was early February.

At this time of the year, all school exams were already over, and we had a long vacation. School would only restart in early April, so for the time being, I had absolute freedom from the entity known as school

Need I even say how I did in the exams? Take a wild guess. I aced the exams and came first in both the first and second semesters. It would be the same for the last semester.

Elementary was way too easy for me. I could ace the exam without attending it.

I mostly focused on getting stronger and other kids' stuff during the holiday, but today was a bit different. I was alone as I walked the streets of Mustafu. After a relentless battle this morning with my mother regarding money, I lost the battle and she gave me none.

But I won the war when I took money from her purse while she wasn't looking. So here I am, trying to enjoy my time in the city with a pocket full of cash. So full, in fact, that some bills were flying cartoonishly off my bulging pockets.

I had a goal today.

Today was the day UA High would conduct its yearly entrance exam. Aspiring heroes from all over the country would come here to try their luck at the most prestigious academy. My goal was basically to see what these people were all about.

After all, one must look where they go before stepping on pebbles.

And who knows, maybe I'll finally run into a familiar face that wasn't just Deku.

The streets were filled with diverse people, and the crowds were much bigger than they were on normal days. When students who want to enroll in UA came to the city, they were never alone, usually accompanied by parents, especially if they lived outside.

The streets were filled with different kinds of people. And I didn't mean in terms of race or ethnicity. They all looked different. They didn't even look like the same species.

Some had horns, some had elongated ears or noses. Some were straight-up animals on four legs, while others had something weird going on with their appearance. The vast majority were still normal-looking, but they came in different sizes and shapes.

My eyes lingered on an interesting specimen. A bulky man with an arm that came out from where his belly button should be. A strong-looking man with fur covering his body. A tall individual who had shark-like teeth.

Feeling a bit weird when I realised I was only looking at macho men, I stared at the women and children too. There was a kid with three nostrils, another one with multiple eyes, and there was an interesting kid who had crooked limbs.

I narrowed my eyes at the crooked limbs, wondering what his quirks could be. After a few seconds of pondering, I concluded that maybe he was just disabled. It was hard to tell when there were so many people who looked extraordinary. And more than a few quirks were straight-up disabilities anyway.

There was someone with a mutation quirk called heavy bones. He looked deformed and small because of it. The only advantage he had was that he couldn't swim; he was slow and oftentimes required a wheelchair. And another one who had a misshapen face, and the only thing he had was the bulb-like tail that grew from his forehead, which could produce light. Those were just a few examples.

While quirks were awesome and gave a small advantage to the majority, sometimes they came with serious disadvantages too. Being quirkless was actually not really bad when you thought about it. They were simply bullied because they were a minority, and they were always salty as hell about not having a quirk. They just assumed they'd end up with a good quirk if they had one, which was just not the case.

My eyes widened when I saw a woman with four boobs. My mind couldn't help but wonder why she wasn't my mother. Surely, with four boobs, I would have more breastmilk and become a strong child, right?

The woman turned and waved at me before blowing a kiss from across the road.

Ah, she must wish to also have me as a son. Truly, it was a great honour to have a child as great as me.

Right as I was distracted by the thought, I bumped into someone.

A miracle happened as I lost the clash and I fell on the ground.

'It can't be....It's not possible...' I shouldn't lose a clash against a fellow child.

"WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!!" we snapped at the same time.

I looked up to see a figure towering over me. Okay, not a child. She was short, but she looked like she was a teen. A very short teen. Maybe 5 feet? I already passed 4 feet, so she was only as tall as a 5th grader.

"What did you say?" she asked, her lips showing her pearly white teeth.

"You're the older one. You should know better and watch where you're going," I spat to the side.

"Tch," she clinked her tongue, "You're the younger one. You should apologise."

The pedestrians just walked by us with a glance. In the meantime, we had a silent staring contest. I thought I'd never lose a staring contest because usually, my opponent didn't even know it was a contest.

She was like my mother. She knew it was a contest.

Eventually, she bent down and blew on my eyes so I blinked.

"Bitch that's cheating!!" I said.

She was taken aback, probably because of my cursing. Heh, of course I knew how to curse properly even at a young age.

But what I initially thought was wrong. She wasn't taken aback. She was simply cocking her hand back, and she slammed a mighty knuckle on my head.

"Ahhhhh!" I grabbed the lump in my head. Was she and my mother the same species?

Fortunately, I knew how to deal with their kind. I pounced at her, wrapping my arms around her neck. I moved behind her while hanging on to her body and put her in a chokehold. I noticed that she had bunny ears, but that was of no importance at the moment.

We had an intense battle in the middle of the sidewalk. No one did anything to stop us. I didn't know it, but everyone thought we were siblings as we shared a similar temperament.

Eventually, though, patrolling heroes broke up our fight as it was creating chaos for everyone else.

...

"You're the most barbaric and annoying kid I have ever seen," she said while downing a bottle of water.

Her white hair was a complete mess; her left eye was red and smaller than her right because I poked them. She was also massaging her nose since I stuck a finger up there, trying to pierce her brain.

If only she had a brain, I would've won.

On the other hand, my face was a complete mess. I usually had an edge against my mother because I was young and I was her son, but this bitch did not hold back. I didn't recognise my face when I looked at my reflection on the armrest of the bench.

We were at the side of the pavement where there were park benches lined up with a cement box that grew plants between each bench.

I was awfully silent because I finally realised who she was after I calmed down.

"Why aren't you black?" I asked the girl with a rather pale complexion. She looked about as white as any Japanese woman.

"What kind of question is that?" she said, her ruby eyes narrowing at me.

With her white hair, white bunny ears, and pale skin, she looked rather pretty. Not at all like the alluring muscle mommy from the memories.

Wait, muscle mommy? I tilt my head. The loser sure had a weird way of remembering her.

The girl in front of me was wearing a school gym uniform. I looked at her thighs, and although they were big and toned, there was no prominent muscle.

And that made me disappointed for some reason.

"Hey kid," she called, and I looked up at her.

"Are you retarded?" she took a step back and hid her thighs.

My anger rose, and so did my body. I stood from the bench, pointing at her accusingly. It was one thing to be ignorant of my genius, but to mistake it for the opposite?

Such atrocity had never been committed since the dawn of the first quirk.

"Do you even know what you just said, Easter Bunny?! I'm a genius," I said.

I saw veins appear on her forehead. "That's what stupid people say."

"I'm intellectually exceptional among the homo sapiens,"

"That actually makes you sound dumber."

"I'll bloody murder you." I said, sparks already coming out of my palm, "Then we'll see who's the stupid one."

"Really? After what I did to your face?"

That made me pause. I couldn't beat her in that fight, but that was because I wasn't using my quirk.

I looked at the pro heroes not far away from us.

It wouldn't do me any good to use my quirk now.

I let my limbs hang loose, and my head looked down as well. "...Do you know you are bullying a child?"

"Yes. Do you know I couldn't care less?"

You could hear the sound of grinding because that was my teeth. My eyes had veins as I looked at her, burning her face in my memory.

This fucking doe is my opp now. Next time it's on sight.

"Hmph," she flipped her hair and crossed her arms, "I don't have time for childish spats. Apologise, and I'll go."

"If you slept in your dreams, and you had a dream there, I still wouldn't apologise in that dream and say 'In your dreams'."

Her eyes widened, suddenly she looked concerned.

"You really are perfectly retarded,"

...How does she even do this to me? All the rage I've experienced so far seemed mild in comparison to what I felt.

"...Are you okay?" she asked after a long silence.

Her voice brought me back, and I bit at the collar of my shirt while grabbing my hair. I was so angry I could die.

"Hey, hey, hey!!" she scooped me up in her arms, my legs dangling while my face rested on her shoulder.

She gave me a genuine hug full of affection.

And I wished she didn't speak.

"It's okay, there there, calm down," she said in my ear, "... It's fine even if you're stupid."

I believe I passed out right then and there.

...

When I opened my eyes again, I saw half the sky. The other half was covered by two mountains.

I blinked.

I was lying on the bench, and my head was on her lap. I shifted my head to see beyond the mountains and saw her looking at her phone with a frustrated expression. She bit her nails while cursing under her breath.

I stared at her for some time before she eventually noticed me. She looked down, a displeased frown on her face.

"You're awake," she said. Her eyes were so red. They looked like pools of blood.

I didn't know why, but I was really calm in that moment. I could feel my heart racing a bit. Maybe it was because I'd admitted defeat.

Truly, she had an advanced rage-baiting technique.

"Since you're awake now, that means I can go," she said before pushing me off her lap and onto the ground.

I just let myself fall and roll on the ground.

With no mountains to block my view, I could stare at the sky like Gojo after enlightenment.

When I heard her walking away, I pushed myself up.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going?"

She turned around with a pissed-off face. "I don't care about you or your shit anymore, kid. The entrance exam will start soon."

Wait, the entrance exam?

"Are you here to take the UA entrance exam?" I asked.

"Of course!" she huffed, "Why else would I be here?"

Ah, I see.

Although.

I narrowed my eyes as I recalled the past few moments.

"I was heading towards UA High this morning. But we bumped into each other. Why did you go the other way?" I asked, feeling as if things were clearing up.

It seemed like she was struck by a great lightning.

"W-well.." she looked flustered.

"And also, even now, you are walking in the opposite direction," I said, and another invisible lightning struck her.

Was she looking at the map just now and couldn't understand a thing? Was that why she looked frustrated?

"I-I was..." I didn't think I would ever see her in this state.

"I see...it all makes sense now." I nodded in realisation.

"Easter bunny," I called her, and her ears stood straight.

"Are you also retarded?"

After all.

It takes one to know one.
