Chapter 135 - Chapter 136

"Believe me, the problems you mentioned aren't problems at all. As for the computation power needed for deep electromagnetic development, we already have perfect solutions waiting for us down the line, whether that's the neural-control chip or the Ts Tyrant serum we've already developed."

"We could even build a dedicated supercomputer cluster specifically for electromagnetic ability users, something built purely to enhance their computational output. And eventually, every telekinetic enhancer could use it too, forming a massive psychic network. Wouldn't that solve the issue perfectly?"

After hearing Killian's answer, Samuel's eyes lit up with realization.

"That really would solve everything."

He had to admit it. In that moment, he admired Killian's way of thinking even more. To jump from a simple electrical ability to electromagnetism, then immediately come up with several complete ways to support it, was not something an ordinary person could do.

At that instant, Killian's image in Samuel's mind rose yet another level.

"Boss, don't worry. After this, I'll make sure the teams brainstorm more and push themselves to think outside the box."

Then Samuel quickly added, making his position clear.

"That's enough. There's no rush with this. Let the classifications happen gradually."

"And let me add one more requirement. Internally, our own records must reflect the real rating. But for outside-facing ability acquisition, I want flexibility. If it can be rated one tier higher, then rate it one tier higher. Understood?"

"We don't lack money. As long as we keep the current momentum going, we'll have a steady stream of abilities coming in from now on. When that happens, you'll have whatever you want."

As he patted Samuel on the shoulder, Killian gave the instruction in a calm but serious tone.

After all, Samuel was the real expert when it came to biological research. That was why Killian had left the collection and grading of superhuman abilities in his hands.

And from what he had seen so far, Samuel was handling it very well.

Then, after scanning through the current vault of collected abilities, Killian could not help but feel satisfied.

There were fire users, water manipulators, wind users, object controllers, ice-formers, and all kinds of strange variations in between.

All it proved was that with a human population in the billions, almost any kind of ability could show up.

There were plenty of useless ones, sure, but there were also more than enough useful ones.

"These are our future assets, Samuel. You need to break all of them down as fast as possible."

After finishing his review, Killian looked at the list in front of him and spoke in a serious tone.

"Don't worry, Boss. I've already assigned multiple specialized teams to work on decoding and analyzing these superhuman biological samples."

"We've already gotten our hands around the process. The more we do, the faster it'll go."

Samuel answered with confidence and excitement.

To him, researching these samples was deeply fulfilling and genuinely enjoyable. He had never imagined there were so many extraordinary lifeforms in this world, and every single one of their gene samples seemed to contain a completely different genetic arrangement, like a shattered high-level puzzle waiting to be put back together.

And once he pieced them together, he could rebuild them according to his own design, replicate them perfectly, and even make them stronger.

On top of that, they already had prior experience extracting and developing the abilities from Purple Man and Jessica. The exact powers were different, but the extraction principles were similar enough that they had already saved a huge amount of time.

"Good. What about the alien research? How's that progressing?"

"Any breakthroughs yet?"

Once he confirmed that everything on Samuel's side was going smoothly, Killian moved on to the next topic.

"Very smoothly. Progress has been rapid."

"At this stage, I've already developed fusion cells based on the alien's genetic material."

"They can give the host the ability to accommodate a much larger number of powers at the same time."

"And as of today, I was preparing to move into formal human trials."

The moment Samuel said that, Killian's eyes lit up.

"Is that so? Looks like I'll be staying a little longer today."

He could not deny it. The idea of true ability fusion was enough to get him excited all over again.

After all, he still remembered how the Skrulls in the original story managed to create a Super-Skrull using crude equipment, one that could combine multiple powers into a single body. Just thinking about that level of potential made his imagination run wild.

"Boss, this way."

Samuel smiled and gestured for him to follow.

The two of them then stepped into the elevator together and descended toward the deepest research levels.

A short while later, when the elevator reached Sublevel 51, the doors opened to reveal something very different from the steel corridors above. Starting here, the facility's structure had clearly changed. The walls were no longer standard metal. They had been rebuilt with a new alloy altogether.

"Boss, because the biological weapons we're developing down here are becoming increasingly dangerous, everything from Level 50 downward was rebuilt with reinforced alloy walls."

"The goal is to prevent any possible bioweapon leak, escape, or loss-of-control event."

Noticing Killian's curious look, Samuel immediately explained.

"Good. Strong security awareness. That's exactly how it should be. Always assume danger exists and kill it in the cradle."

After hearing the explanation, Killian nodded in approval.

And Samuel was right.

As the biological experiments became more advanced, and as more superhuman abilities were fused into them, the danger level had long since surpassed the original standards they had planned around back when the Tyrants were the most destructive things in the building.

A lot of what they were creating now was already more dangerous than a Tyrant.

And because Killian was not always on-site, and Samuel handled this division directly, he had not fully grasped the extent of that change until now.

Still, after seeing all this with his own eyes, Killian felt even more assured that Samuel could be trusted completely.

Following Samuel through yet another set of security gates, then through dozens of biolab rooms, the two of them finally arrived outside a heavily sealed test chamber.

Samuel stepped forward. A facial scanner swept across his face, followed by a sharp beep.

Access granted.

Then the heavy blast door, weighing several tons, slowly opened.

What lay behind it was not the main lab yet, but an isolation decontamination chamber.

The two of them went through a streamlined but still lengthy sterilization process, then entered a second chamber for ultraviolet treatment. Only after more than ten minutes of layered decontamination, now dressed in protective suits, were they finally allowed into the actual lab.

And once they stepped inside, Killian could see everything clearly.

A burly Black man with dreadlocks had been strapped tightly to a bed inside the isolation chamber. At that moment, he seemed fully aware of what was coming. He stared at the medical robots around him in panic, then turned toward the transparent observation glass and the security cameras, shouting and begging nonstop, hoping someone might show him mercy.

Unfortunately for him, the robots around him had no reaction at all. They were still carrying out their procedures with mechanical precision.

And as for the staff in the control room, they had not even enabled the audio feed yet.

Which meant that from their perspective, the man was just opening and closing his mouth soundlessly, like some kind of frantic fish.

Still, it had to be said that the American prison system had at least one advantage. Their inmates were usually kept in good enough shape that this man's body was still at peak condition. And because prison itself ran on a jungle-law system of strength and dominance, the inmates' bodies were often in excellent shape.

It was no surprise, really, that prisons were so beloved by medical institutions everywhere as unofficial "volunteer donor centers."

"First trial preparations."

"Test subject is secured. Check instrument status."

At that point, Samuel stepped up to the control platform and calmly began issuing commands.

"Vital monitoring system normal."

"Brainwave monitoring device normal."

"Injection unit 1, Alien fusion cell, normal."

"Injection unit 2, B1 sonic scream cell, normal."

"Injection unit 3, A4 accelerated regeneration cell, normal."

"Injection unit 4, B3 psychic control cell, normal."

"Injection unit 5, Extremis virus, normal."

At Samuel's order, the medical robots inside the chamber began connecting the test subject to each monitoring system. A moment later, all of the man's vital data appeared on the screens.

Meanwhile, several loaded syringes filled with different colored biological serums were adjusted and prepared right in front of him.

At that point, the man's panic turned to true despair.

He regretted every murder he had ever committed.

Until now, prison had only ever meant time to him. Ten years. Twenty years. Maybe a chance to break out someday.

But at that moment, he wished time could roll all the way back to before he ever committed his first crime.

"Isolation chamber pressure normal."

"Report complete. All systems normal."

After the last researcher finished confirming their assigned systems, the experiment entered its final countdown.

"Check the chamber one last time. Confirm no outside variables."

"Begin recording baseline data from the subject."

Samuel gave the final order.

"Report. Chamber interior is normal. No outside variables present. Current subject height: 182 centimeters. Weight: 70 kilograms. Consciousness normal. Brainwaves stable. No disease present. Body condition healthy."

"Good. Record all of it. Units one through five will inject in sequence."

Once the final readiness report came through clean, Samuel's expression did not change at all.

"Begin cell injection."

"Thirty-second intervals."

Not long after, once all staff had reported readiness, Samuel gave the final command in his cold, steady tone.

The medical robots inside the chamber pressed the syringes against the man's neck.

Then, in his utterly hopeless stare, the first serum was injected into his body.

"First injection, Unit 1, Alien fusion cell, administered."

"Injection complete. Subject status stable."

"Begin thirty-second countdown."

After completing the first injection, the robot calmly announced its report.

"Report. Subject heart rate is increasing. Approximately 120 beats per minute and still rising. Currently within manageable range."

A researcher responsible for life-sign monitoring began reporting from the control room.

"Good. Continue to the second injection. Keep monitoring."

Since the changes were still within the acceptable threshold, Samuel ordered the next step.

"Second injection, Unit 2, B1 sonic scream cell, administered. Injection complete."

"Thirty-second countdown begins."

"25 seconds."

...

"Report. Subject heart rate approaching 170 beats per minute. Still rising."

"Report. Internal cellular activity is showing obvious changes. Brainwave patterns are abnormally active."

"Continue."

Seeing the subject's values rising well beyond normal human limits, Samuel still gave the order without hesitation.

"Third injection, Unit 3, A4 accelerated regeneration cell, administered. Injection complete."

"Thirty-second countdown begins."

...

"Fourth injection, Unit 4, B3 psychic control cell, administered. Injection complete."

"Thirty-second countdown begins."

...

"Report. Subject heart rate has exceeded 220 beats per minute and is still climbing."

"Body temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, then 55, then 70, then 85... Good God, he's going to burn himself alive."

"Psychic brain-region activity is showing violent instability."

"Life-energy signature is increasing."

"Doctor!"

As the sudden changes escalated, the researchers around the room began shouting updates one after another.

At that moment, even Killian, standing behind the observation glass, frowned.

He could not explain why, but the entire scene gave him a very bad feeling.

And anyone watching closely could see that as the subject's vitals continued to spiral upward, his body had started to convulse and twist violently, as though he were enduring some enormous and unbearable pain.

"Excellent. Final injection. Begin administration."

Samuel's eyes flashed with excitement as he listened to the reports. His voice, for once, could no longer hide the anticipation beneath it.

At this point, nobody was paying attention to his tone anymore.

Every eye in the room was fixed on the last robot with the final syringe.

Then, after a long stretch of time that seemed to move in slow motion, the robot drove the final serum into the test subject.

"Fifth injection, Unit 5, Extremis virus, administered."

"Thirty-second countdown begins."

The moment the final serum entered his body, the subject began shaking violently.

It looked as though something catastrophic was happening inside him.

"Doctor, the subject's heart rate has exceeded 300 beats per minute and is still rising!"

"Temperature at 55 degrees, 70, 85. It's still going up!"

"Brain activity readings are showing massive instability!"

"The cellular energy signature is intensifying!"

"Doctor!"

At that point, everyone in the room was stunned. One after another, the staff began shouting their reports in alarm.

Samuel's gaze shifted involuntarily toward the red emergency button on the control panel.

All he had to do was flip the protective cover and press it.

The chamber would immediately flood with ultra-high-temperature flame, vaporizing every living thing inside. Even steel would melt into slag.

If he did that, no matter how dangerous things became, the incident would be contained instantly.

But if he pressed it now, the experiment would be declared a failure.

And worse, he would lose everything before understanding anything.

That was not his style.

At the very least, he needed useful data before making the call.
