Even so, Samuel quietly flipped open the safety cover over the emergency incineration switch and rested his hand on it.
No matter what, it was always better to be prepared.
Inside the isolation chamber, as the man's convulsions grew more and more violent, everyone watched in horror as the medical robots around him began to twist unnaturally in midair.
"Samuel, something's wrong. Organize an immediate evacuation. Get the emergency response team in position and have them take over this floor."
The moment Killian saw the situation in the chamber clearly spiraling out of control, he turned to Samuel and ordered him at once.
"Yes, sir."
"Everyone, proceed according to Emergency Protocol Three. Begin an orderly evacuation."
Although Samuel had already been on the verge of slamming the emergency destruction button, after hearing Killian's order, he only stared blankly for a moment before answering and carrying it out.
After all, at a time like this, he trusted that Killian, as the boss, had considered things more thoroughly than he had. His own job was simply to execute.
With the order issued, the researchers on the floor immediately began jogging out in a disciplined, organized flow.
Although accidents inside the base were rare, Pioneer Tech still required monthly emergency evacuation drills and safety training for all employees. And now, for the first time, all that preparation was proving its worth.
As the staff rapidly withdrew, the bizarre phenomenon inside the chamber only grew stronger.
"Doctor, according to the instruments, the subject's body temperature has now risen to 60 degrees Celsius. Brain activity has exceeded Level 3 and is still climbing exponentially. Current heart rate is far beyond the normal threshold at 630 beats per minute, and the data is still rising."
At that moment, after most of the personnel had cleared out, Baymax, now fully connected to the live readouts, began reporting the subject's condition.
"The numbers are that high? Even when the humanoid Tyrant first awakened, it didn't show data like this. Baymax, are you sure?"
Hearing those readings, even Samuel froze.
"Confirmed. Experimental data is accurate. All readings are valid."
Baymax replied in his usual warm but mechanical tone.
After hearing that confirmation, Samuel could not help feeling a headache coming on.
He had never expected that a handful of completely ordinary powers, when fused together, would create something this monstrous. Looking at the live feed, he could already see the subject's skin beginning to glow red, as if it had been baked in a furnace.
And yet, despite that, the subject's life signs remained stable.
It was unbelievable.
"Based on data analysis, the most likely explanation is that multiple abilities are undergoing an unusual synergistic reaction during fusion."
"Biological containment response units are already on the way. Doctor, you and Mr. Killian must evacuate immediately."
After finishing its analysis, Baymax added the next recommendation without pause.
"Boss, let's get out of here first."
Now that even Baymax was saying it, Samuel turned to Killian and urged him without hesitation.
If it were only him, that would be one thing. By temperament, he would have stayed on the front line no matter how dangerous things got. But Killian was here. Pioneer Tech's chairman was standing right beside him. Under no circumstances could Samuel allow him to stay and take risks.
"All right. Let's move."
Killian did not object. Though he absolutely wanted to see just how powerful this test subject really was, especially since even he had felt a faint sense of danger from it earlier, there was no need to stand inside a collapsing situation to satisfy his curiosity.
A wise man did not stand beneath a falling wall.
So, under the escort of the Blackwatch soldiers who had already reached this level, the two of them entered the observation room's private emergency passage and began retreating.
At the same time, after Killian's group pulled back, more and more of the biological containment vanguard units arrived on-site.
Ten fully matured artificial Tyrants.
Four strength-type combat Tyrants.
Three telekinetic support Tyrants.
Three agile female Tyrants built for high-speed destruction.
Each one had been cultivated using mature techniques and cutting-edge procedures. Any one of them could devastate a small town. Together, they were an army unto themselves.
Behind them came one hundred T-800 combat robots and five hundred Extremis-enhanced clone soldiers, all delivered into the level via specialized heavy transport elevators.
And once they had fully entered, the massive blast door, weighing nearly a hundred tons, slowly sealed shut under the blinking red emergency lights.
At that point, aside from the test subject and the containment forces, there was no living thing left on the entire floor.
...
Meanwhile, inside the isolation chamber, things were getting worse by the second.
Several of the medical robots had already been suspended in midair by some invisible force. The most horrifying part was that even under Baymax's direct control, they could no longer move at all. Their steel limbs could not shift even a fraction of an inch.
Then, as everyone watched, it happened.
Under a growing pressure no one could see, the four medical robots suddenly began to crumple. Metal snapped and buckled with a series of sharp cracks. Within seconds, all four had been reduced to scrap.
The man strapped to the bed had long since regained consciousness by then. But now his eyes burned with savage hatred as he stared at the observation glass.
Even if he could not actually see whether anyone was behind it, his instincts told him there were.
Then, in Samuel's view, the man slowly opened his mouth.
A massive sonic wave erupted from him.
In an instant, the reinforced blast glass, strong enough to withstand rocket impacts, fractured under the pressure. Cracks spread like a spiderweb across the entire pane before it exploded outward with a deafening crash.
The sonic wave poured onward.
The moment the glass shattered, dozens of T-800 units in the control room opened fire.
The first muzzle flash flared orange.
Then came all the others.
Within a split second, a storm of heavy-caliber rounds filled the corridor, enough firepower to tear any carbon-based lifeform to ribbons.
But the next moment, a scene unfolded that left everyone stunned.
The bullets had barely traveled a few meters, not even crossing the broken window line, before every single one slowed as if the world itself had entered slow motion.
At that moment, if any ordinary person had been standing there, they would have felt the invisible pressure of the sonic shockwave flooding through the chamber. It was so powerful that even the supersonic rounds were forced to hang in the air.
Then, just as suddenly, the test subject bent slightly lower.
A second, even more violent shockwave erupted from him, crashing toward the T-800s in the control room like a tidal wave.
In an instant, the bullets were caught, reversed, and hurled back in the opposite direction at terrifying speed.
The robots were blasted off their feet and smashed into the walls.
Boom!
Boom!
Massive impacts shook the room as one machine after another slammed into the control equipment. Sparks exploded across the consoles. Some terminals shorted out on the spot, while others detonated outright.
In the blink of an eye, the entire room was wrecked. It looked less like a lab and more like a missile impact zone.
"Boss, this is what a B-rank ability really looks like."
At that moment, watching the scene through the surveillance system from the floor above, Samuel could not help blurting out his excitement.
Because if one ignored the fact that the subject was completely out of control, then this was a superior super soldier in every sense.
At that instant, Samuel could practically see the military's reaction if they ever laid eyes on a soldier like this.
For decades they had dreamed of recreating Captain America.
Now, what stood before them made Captain America look ordinary. Hell, if Captain America's father showed up, he would not matter either. Even if Jesus himself walked in here, Samuel felt like this thing could still rip off his beard.
"And that's not all. Keep watching. It should have more surprises for us yet."
Killian, still calmly studying the footage, replied in an even tone.
Quite frankly, even if it were just him, he could have dealt with the earlier machine-gun barrage.
If this subject had managed to make him feel genuine unease, then its remaining two abilities definitely weren't going to be simple.
And just as he expected, after wiping out the T-800 units, the subject noticed the corridor entrance beyond the shattered chamber and immediately lit up.
Then it leaped forward, walking barefoot across broken glass without the slightest concern, heading toward the exit.
But the next second, it stopped.
At the far end of the corridor stood several hulking figures like walls of flesh and steel.
The biological containment team had arrived.
For the first time since awakening, the subject's arrogance faltered. Even its now-bloody, swollen eyes narrowed with caution as it stared at the formation ahead.
Clearly, it had not expected this place to have security forces this monstrous.
"Baymax, send one Tyrant in first. Test its abilities."
Watching through the monitors as the subject froze instead of attacking, Killian smiled faintly and gave the order.
Baymax immediately transmitted the command directly into the Tyrant's neural control system.
Then the first strength-type Tyrant threw back its head and roared. Hammering its chest, it charged like a runaway truck straight at the subject.
The subject inhaled sharply.
Then a sonic blast exploded out of its mouth.
In an instant, the Tyrant's forward momentum visibly slowed. Its monstrous face and glowing red eyes sharpened in the subject's vision as it continued stomping forward.
But the next moment, the subject inhaled again and unleashed an even larger sonic wave.
This time, the Tyrant stopped cold.
Now, no matter how hard it pushed, it could not advance another step. Worse, even as it tried to brace itself, its feet began grinding backward, cutting deep trenches into the floor.
Recognizing the danger, the Tyrant immediately changed tactics.
It raised both hands and smashed them into the ground.
The floor exploded apart.
Then it seized the largest slab of broken stone and hurled it at the subject with immense force.
The subject could no longer sustain the sonic blast and was forced to break off and dodge aside.
Boom!
After the subject jumped away, the stone slab smashed into the wall behind it and blasted a massive hole straight through.
Seeing that, the subject's red eyes tightened.
But before it could react, a blur surged into its space.
The Tyrant had closed the distance.
Its hands locked around the subject, and then it began swinging it back and forth like a rag doll. The subject's body slammed into the floor again and again, each impact leaving a fresh crater in the corridor.
Then, just as the Tyrant prepared to continue pounding it into paste, the subject acted.
A sonic burst erupted downward from its hands, disrupting the Tyrant's footing.
The massive creature stumbled.
In that instant, the subject drove its arm straight into the Tyrant's skull through the side of its head.
Immediately, the control feed on the monitors went dark.
"What happened?"
Seeing the video from the unit go dead, Samuel blurted the question out.
"The subject possesses psychic control capability. According to combat analysis, it had thirty-seven opportunities to escape using sonic propulsion during the engagement, but deliberately waited for a chance to neutralize the Tyrant."
"And now it has directly taken control of the Tyrant's brain, destroying the neural control chip in the process."
After rapidly reviewing the combat exchange, Baymax calmly explained.
"So it's even worse than that. Its mental development is far beyond what we expected. It must have some way to sense the mental state of its opponents."
After hearing Baymax's assessment, Samuel quickly reached his own conclusion.
"And there's more. Its recovery is insane. The Tyrant had already smashed its flesh and bones apart, but in barely ten seconds, it's almost fully regenerated."
"Wide-area sonic attacks, extreme regeneration, and an evolving form of psychic domination. I have to say, Samuel, with just a few simple powers, you've managed to create quite a monster."
Killian watched the live feed with obvious interest as he spoke.
"Haha... Boss, may I take that as you mocking me?"
Hearing Killian say that, Samuel could only force out a helpless laugh.
Even though they had always been extremely careful with their human experimentation program, he had never imagined they'd actually lose control like this.
And in front of the top boss, no less.
His face was burning.
"Not at all. Aren't we just collecting combat data now?"
"Look at it from another angle. If we can wipe its memory, then as our next-generation combat soldier, wouldn't that make the group's military arm even stronger?"
Killian answered seriously.
Because right now, the subject had only fused three superhuman genes, yet it was already this powerful.
He could hardly imagine how terrifying it would become if an entire gene vault's worth of powers were integrated into one final body.
"Thank you, Boss. You always know how to stay optimistic and comfort people."
"Still, Boss... with the situation now, should we activate the destruction protocol?"
"Because at this rate, I'm afraid this whole floor may not survive."
Samuel asked the question seriously after a pause.
And while they were talking, the strength-type Tyrant that had been taken over by the subject had already fully regenerated and risen to its feet.
But this time, instead of facing the test subject, it turned toward its former comrades.
And now, standing together, the subject and the newly controlled Tyrant stared menacingly at the remaining containment team.
