Chapter 1 - The Boy Who Feared Death

During the medieval times, there was a palace that had held information on different diseases and curses. The guards had kept the research lab secret within the palace. It held sacred information about the cure, but then, it happened.

The unavoidable curse known as the True Death curse, had started to spread out, selecting a bloodline to give itself to. It landed on the Fujita Family bloodline.

That was when the alarms of the palace had started blaring loudly through the halls. It alarmed the guards and researchers.

Researcher 1: What happened?! What's going on!

Researcher 2: It had seemed to be that a curse had manifested itself and broken out!

Researcher 1: Shit! Once given, it can't be cured and removed!

The researchers' sweats dripped from their faces as they panicked. It was described as a deadly virus or plague to others.

The curse had continued to spread years later as it still had its effect on the Fujita family.

Centuries had passed as images of dreams had played in Yuki's mind while he was asleep. The images had looked real, but he himself was unsure if it truly happened or not.

These visions weren't any ordinary visions. It was the death of his ancestors and his parents. He then jolted awake, sitting up straight quickly.

Yuki: Ahhh!

He screamed in fear and shock as he panted heavily from the visions. His hands trembled as sweat dripped from his forehead. It was very overwhelming to Yuki.

These visions had truly reminded Yuki of his dead parents and ancestors. He stood up quietly and started to get dressed and fix himself up as he washed his face.

Yuki: I don't usually fear anything.. but death… is the one thing that scares me the most. Seeing others or one of my loved ones or even friends die is what keeps me thinking… What if I'm next?

His thoughts were quiet and a bit hesitant. Yuki then moved downstairs and started making himself a cup of coffee. As it was being brewed, someone had knocked on the door which had startled him. He glanced over at the door with widened eyes and walked over to it and quickly opened up his front door.

It was a man in a brown trench coat who looked like a detective.

This man had his sunglasses on as Yuki glanced at him with a confused expression. It wasn't serious, or so Yuki thought.

Yuki: Do you… need something sir?

Man: …

The man didn't say a word to Yuki. There were already ideas that would go through in his head as the man then reached into his coat pocket. Yuki noticed his hand reaching into his coat as his thoughts immediately sent signals of danger.

Yuki stepped back a bit as the man pulled out a gun and pressed it against Yuki's head. He removed his sunglasses with his free hand which showed his eyebrows narrowed downwards a bit with his eyes full of sadness and manipulation.

Memories of the past deaths had flashed through his head as Yuki trembled in fear. He couldn't stop shaking. Yuki had started to breathe heavily.

Man: Give me… all your money.

His voice was hesitant and had the tone of a man trying to be free.

Yuki: N-No.

Yuki's voice was shaky as he started trembling more in fear. The man had the expression of somebody who needed desperate help.

The man had opened up his mouth, about to say something else, but his head had been blown off by a powerful gun of some sort. His body collapsed onto Yuki's floor as blood started spreading around.

His eyes widened in fear, trembling violently. There was no way for Yuki to stop his hands from shaking as his thoughts were becoming more negative than they were before. He stared at the body in fear then glanced upwards, seeing it was another woman in a black trench coat.

Her name was Amelia Manroe.

Amelia: So you're the kid with that curse huh? Let me guess, you're all alone because everyone around you died?

Her tone was smooth and sweet. She had a gentle smile as she put her gun into her coat pocket.

Yuki glanced at her, still in complete shock. When he heard her voice, Amelia had the voice of an angel. It was a beautiful sound that he hadn't heard before.

Amelia: Don't worry about your curse affecting me. I won't die from it.

Her slight chuckled had startled Yuki as he never expected anything like this before.

Yuki: Someone who can survive the curse? But it can't be avoided! The exact moment someone steps into my range of presence would have their fate decided!

His internal thoughts had started going at a fast pace. Amelia noticed his fast thoughts and smiled, as if it was something she had dealt with before.

Amelia then reached into her coat pocket and had taken out a business card. It had her full name and business on it as Yuki's hand trembled more. He wasn't sure about taking it from her. He gulped as he reached out for the business card and took it.

Amelia: No need to be scared. Just think about it. I can help you out, Yuki Fujita.

Yuki had held the card in his hand, and at that moment, Amelia had suddenly vanished from thin air. He glanced downwards at the card and went back as he was starting to get stressed. His trembling hands had started to scratch his head with heavy breathing.

In that time span, he had tried to calm down, but he couldn't stop trembling. He was getting anxious about the offer.

As he was very anxious. Amelia, who had arrived back at her palace, had held folders in her hands that held information on the curse. She made it to the meeting room that includes a long table with seven seats for executioners. Amelia then put down the folder and slid it to the boss.

Boss: What is this, Amelia?

Amelia: A folder that holds information on Yuki Fujita.

The boss had opened up the folder and was going through the documents that were within the folder. It held information on Yuki, but also his inevitable curse that was soon to be known to the world.

He read through the documents, and that was when the realization had struck him.

Boss: The curse… it targets anybody in the range of one's presence excluding those who are immortal..?

His eyes widened in complete shock.

Amelia: Yes. Those who are immortal won't be affected by this known curse. Although, the effect range is fairly difficult to calculate.

Boss: I see…

He was curious about the curse that was described in the documents. At some point in time, it left a question that left mysterious traces about it.

At that moment, a man had walked through the door. He wore a black katana bag on his back over his gray shirt and his brown long coat. The boss glanced over at his direction, and his eyes had widened in fear.

Amelia glanced over to his direction and was unsure about the fear as the room went into silence.

Amelia: What's with the look?

Boss: H-Hello… welcome back from your execution mission..

The boss stammered in fear as the other executioners had stayed silent, knowing getting on his bad side could lead to their death.

Amelia: Someone tell me what's going on…

Boss: Amelia, you don't want to mess with him.. he's dangerous, even to me.

She glared at the man, who wasn't fully in the room. The only thing that can be seen is his shoes and the hem of the black pants.

The man had fully entered the room. The boss, Amelia and the other executioners had seen the man. He had brown curly bangs, and he had a calming expression. The room had stayed in silence as his footsteps echoed through the room. He was drenched in the blood of criminals and other beings.

Lucian had glanced over at the boss and other executioners with a sigh as he scratched the back of his head.

Lucian: Hey…

Boss: H-Hey.. Lucian.

The boss stammered as Amelia watched and listened into the conversation.

Lucian was a higher ranked executioner who was allowed to do dangerous missions alone regardless of the danger.

Amelia: Wait, so who is he sir?

Boss: That's Lucian, the most skilled and informed executioners here.. he's known as the Black Huntsmen.

Amelia: The Black Huntsmen?

The boss had nodded as he trembled in fear while the other executioners didn't bother to make eye contact with Lucian.

Lucian: I go by many names really…

Boss: How was your mission…?

The boss' voice had still trembled in fear as Lucian glanced at the boss.

Lucian: It went okay. Although, most of the beings I executed required magic.

Boss: I see…

He sighed as Lucian leaned against the wall. The other executioners had been sitting in awkward silence, but yet they were also filled with fear, but also with respect for Lucian.

Amelia: Anyways, Lucian, there's a kid named Yuki Fujita. Mind bringing him over here? I see some potential and I, theoretically, think that his curse could be removed.

Lucian had shot Amelia a glance as he pushed off from the wall. He had a calming expression and had stepped foot outside of the door.

Lucian: Yeah. Although, I don't take orders from anyone who isn't the boss.

He says as he then leaves the meeting room and starts walking over to Yuki's location. No one specifically told him the location, which Amelia had realized she had forgotten, and yet he still left the palace.

Yuki had sat in his living room calmly, but also filled to the brim with anxiety. He had sat there for hours while staring at the card Amelia had given him. He sighed quietly.

Yuki: Mom.. Dad.. I do wish I could do something. I'm too afraid to do anything. I'm so alone. If only… I could just.. no, I should stop thinking like that, although… it's something that would end my misery.

That exact thought had kept Yuki in the more negative side of the world. His curse was too much and was taking a large toll on him mentally and emotionally. He was heavily stressed.

Yuki's grip had tightened on the business card as his hands started trembling. It was tears. It dripped onto the card as he sat on his couch in silence with no one around.

At that moment, a knock occurred which startled him and he quickly wiped his eyes. He stood up and walked over to the door, then opened it up. It appeared to be Lucian.

Lucian: I'm here to get you, Yuki Fujita..

Yuki glanced at him and noticed the way he dressed and his katana. He had a calm look. Yuki had glanced back up at Lucian's eyes. It was as black as space.

Lucian: Don't worry, I won't kill you. Although, you're coming with me.. do that and I can tell you things you'd like to know.

That statement had caught Yuki's attention. His eyes widened in surprise, but also shock.

Yuki: let's slow down… who are you, and what do you know?

Lucian glanced at him with an intrigued expression on his face and stared at Yuki for a moment like there was something on his face.

Lucian: My name is Lucian Maywood, and I have information that even the boss nor Amelia doesn't have.

Yuki: …

Yuki had stayed silent, not sure whether to trust him or not. Lucian then sighed and gently took his arm, then walked over to the palace.

They walked in awkward silence.

Lucian: The rumors about this incurable and an impossible-to-remove curse is false you know…?

Yuki: What…?

Lucian: Back in the medieval times, there were researchers that assumed the curse couldn't be removed or be destroyed.. I've recently found out how to do so.

Yuki's eyes widened as they walked over to the palace. It was a long journey. Yuki had looked like he was about to cry or had experienced paranormal activities. This information had completely put Yuki into shock as he stopped walking.

Yuki: There's… a way? To get rid of this curse?

Lucian glanced back at Yuki with a calm expression. He stood there, with a knowing look in his eyes.

Lucian: Yeah… Divine Arts of the Heavens. That's how you get rid of it. This information is forbidden across the planet, so I'm the only one in the world that knows this type of info.

Yuki trembled as tears fell down from his eyes. It wasn't tears of sorrow. No. It was tears of joy and happiness. He was happy that a curse like his could be removed from him.

Lucian: It's false because the things people around the world had said haven't had a single idea on how to even get rid of something abstract like your curse. No law is truly absolute.

He had explained it in such a way that allowed Yuki to process everything without functionally shutting down.

Lucian sighed in relief as Yuki had stayed quiet through the talk.

Lucian: If you want to know what actually happens to those who die by your curse, they aren't really dead. They've just been abstracted out of existence and placed into a space beyond the universe.

Yuki: …so why… aren't you affected?

He had started walking with Lucian, while he glanced back at Yuki. It was a question that intrigued him.

Lucian: Your curse chooses the fate of one being yes? At any point of time, they will be "killed" right?

Yuki: Yeah… but you're avoiding my question!

His voice trembled in sadness, but also with joy as tears continued falling from his eyes. Lucian had stayed quiet for a moment before responding.

Lucian: I'm not affected because I'm immune to all-type curses.

Yuki was shocked as he immediately wiped his eyes while left speechless. Lucian and Yuki had arrived at the palace, and they entered.

They walk through the halls full of armed guards as their footsteps echoed through the palace. Lucian had taken Yuki to the main living room and sat Yuki down on a chair. He had sat down in front of him with his hands clasped together.

Yuki: How… Do you have these types of information exactly, Lucian?

Lucian: My ability, Heavenly System, allows me to gain access to information no one knows about.

Yuki's eyes widened in surprise as he knew the truth about Lucian. It was like he had met a being of another world.

There was a maid that came by with a tray that held two cups of tea. As she stopped in between Lucian and Yuki, she had then gently put down the two cups on the table in front of them. The maid had then stepped out of the room, leaving both Yuki and Lucian with their thoughts and silence.

Yuki: What are you… hiding, Lucian?

Lucian: You want the honest truth…? Well you asked for it. I'm a pretty dangerous and ruthless man.. cold even. I'm one of the highest ranked executioners in the palace…. Amelia and I will be the ones who will train you to use magic and defend yourself against those outside of this world.

Lucian's voice and tone had become cold. He hadn't sounded desperate nor serious. His aura had changed from calmness to immense destructive power. Lucian had master control over his presence without it leaking out. His expression was cold and calm.

That moment when Yuki had felt his presence, it had scared him. His eyes wide opened, his existence being shaken to the very core. Yuki was trembling in fear. Lucian's presence was intoxicating him, which felt like he couldn't breathe and could only suffocate on nothing, but a presence full of coldness and death.

His presence suddenly dispersed as he drank his tea, while Yuki sat there, shocked and scared.

Lucian: Another thing about my ability is, I don't have just access to forbidden knowledge. It allows me to input and output rules on myself and other people.

Yuki was still visibly shocked, his body was still tense although he then started to relax. Lucian sighed as he stood up and finished up his tea. Yuki then grabbed onto the cup, and put it against his mouth, but his trembling couldn't stop, even when starting to relax. It caused some tea to spill out of the cup.

He then stood up and drank a cup of tea. Lucian had started taking Yuki to the meeting room. Once they entered the room, all the executioners, the boss and Amelia glanced at Lucian and Yuki.

Amelia: You brought him? I'm surprised you'd even follow through. Anyway, the boss said we'll have to train Yu–

Amelia was cut off as Lucian had started opening his mouth to speak.

Lucian: I know. That was originally my plan… we'll start tomorrow morning.

Later that night, Yuki had laid in bed in the palace that they had set up. He was unable to sleep. If he slept, his experiences from before the dead would haunt him, but yet it wasn't like he hadn't been doing that all this time.

The environment had randomly flickered, changing into an area of burning buildings and corpses. Yuki looked around, and noticed blood on his hands. He stepped backwards in shock.

Yuki: W-What… is this? Mom! Dad! Anyone!

He shouted out, until he felt a little tap on his foot and glanced downwards. It was his mother's head. Yuki's eyes widened more as he was being overwhelmed by fear. It was a short vision that dispersed itself, with a loud thud echoing through the palace. Yuki found himself on the wooden floor.

Yuki jolted up and awoke. He was unable to scream in the vision before he had woken up.

He panted heavily.

Yuki: W-Was… that a nightmare? Had I fallen asleep?

He murmured to himself as he sat against his bed as he started to emotionally breakdown. Tears flowed down his cheeks. His heart ached painfully.

His voice trembled. It wasn't a nightmare really. It was more like hallucinations and paranoia. He was unable to sleep throughout the night.

Next morning, Lucian walked over to his room and opened up his door, seeing Yuki on the floor, shaking in fear.

Yuki lifted up his head, showing eyebags slowly forming under his eyes. Lucian notices this and sighs with some concern. He gestured to Yuki to stand up.

Lucian: Get up. We got training to do…

His cold tone had hit Yuki as he stood up. Lucian didn't question the situation.

They walked over to the training grounds, which is located in the basement. As they walked down to the training grounds, Lucian quickly shot some glances at Yuki and sighed.

Lucian: Hey… you had hallucinations, didn't you? I know that feeling.. it's an inescapable feeling once you become traumatized…

Yuki stayed silent. It was like he didn't want to speak to anybody right now. As they arrived at the basement, Amelia had been waiting for Yuki. She stood there with a gentle smile. Lucian had immediately sensed the difference in Amelia's aura. It was far different. Her appearance, looks and aura were perfect, but what made it different is how Lucian sensed it.

To Lucian, he felt a little malice from her presence, but Yuki couldn't sense it.

Amelia: Ready to train, Yuki?

She kept her gentle smile while Yuki stayed quiet, but Lucian had drawn out his katana with a little sigh. His facial expression was cold and almost emotionless.

Lucian: Where is she…?

Amelia: Hm? What do you mean? I'm right here!

It was mysterious. Is it Amelia? Or is it an entity possessing her? These questions hung in the air. There weren't any other questions that appeared in his head.

Lucian: I know you're not Amelia… I'm assuming you had done something while all of us were asleep?

Amelia's smile faltered in surprise, then she chuckled as her body had started to get transfigured and her face was getting distorted in many ways. Bone cracks from head to toe, and that was when it happened. The sounds of the bones cracking had echoed through the training grounds as the flame torches had started getting blown off.

The transformation had finished. It was pitch black in the training grounds, Yuki and Lucian couldn't see. Yuki heard what was happening while he stayed next to Lucian. He was shocked after hearing the bone cracking and breaking.

The torches immediately get lit, showing a multiple eyed-like creature, a smile that goes from the bottom to the very top of the face. It's appearance was like it was made from smoke. Sharp teeth that destroy and chomps down even buildings.

It released a loud, high pitched, and horror-like growl towards Lucian as wind was being blown towards both Yuki and him.
