The council chamber felt colder after the former Luna left.
The heavy door closed behind her with a dull echo that lingered in the quiet room. The single candle on the council table flickered weakly, casting restless shadows across the stone walls. For several long seconds, no one moved.
Selene stood exactly where she had been when the Luna whispered those final words to her.
Someone you trust.
The sentence echoed in her mind like a warning bell.
Kai finally broke the silence.
"Well," he said, running a hand through his messy hair, "that was unsettling."
No one laughed.
Silas stood at the far side of the chamber, his broad shoulders tense, his gaze fixed on the door the former Luna had just walked through.
"She's playing games," he said at last.
His voice was low, but the anger beneath it was unmistakable.
Rowan shook his head slightly.
"I don't think so."
Kai turned toward him.
"You're defending her now?"
