The compound didn't sleep that night.
Even hours after the battle ended, torches still burned along every corridor. Warriors rotated through patrols twice as often as usual, their footsteps echoing across the stone floors and courtyard.
The broken gate had been temporarily sealed with heavy wooden beams, but everyone knew it was only a short-term solution.
Blackclaw had survived the attack.
Barely.
Selene stood on the upper balcony overlooking the courtyard, her arms resting lightly on the cold stone railing. Below her, several warriors worked quietly to repair the damaged wall.
From this height, she could see nearly the entire compound.
And every shadow between the buildings.
Rowan stood beside her, silent as usual.
"You still feel them?" Selene asked quietly.
Rowan shook his head.
"No."
She frowned slightly.
"That's not good."
Rowan glanced at her.
"Why?"
Selene's eyes remained on the compound below.
