The Hyuga-brand shuriken machine finally came to a halt.
Akira's arms were sore, not that it mattered much anymore.
Everyone standing in front of him was dead. Completely and thoroughly dead.
Only a few cowards remained, hiding behind trees and rocks, too terrified to peek out.
"What a shame. My arm strength still isn't enough," Akira sighed in disappointment.
Even with chakra-boosted throws, he couldn't pierce through solid cover.
But no one dared move. After seeing a literal storm of shuriken fly through the air, who would be brave enough to poke their head out?
[EXP +328]
Thirty kills in one go. These bandits really weren't worth much.
He glanced at the loot scattered across the ground, only he could see them, each item glowing faintly with flickering light.
Akira moved forward quickly, picking up the drops. Most of it was just silver.
Even crumbs were still meat.
Shuriken weren't cheap. He'd spent a fortune stocking up, and his family's leftover savings were almost gone.
If not for his graduation and upcoming missions as a genin, he'd be broke enough to start eating dirt.
This little windfall came just in time.
[Silver: 96]
"Finally, some pocket change again," Akira exhaled in relief.
At least now he wouldn't have to starve himself just to stay armed.
Aside from the money, he got a few materials too:
[Iron Ore]×3
[Yarn]×2
Crafting mats. Completely useless to me. These were for life-skill professions. He just dumped them into his inventory.
But the real prize?
Two pieces of equipment:
[Bandit's Left Greave: +5 Movement Speed]
[Bandit's Right Gauntlet: +3 Strength]
Bandit Set. Best early-game starter gear. Akira's eyes lit up.
If he could collect the full set, he'd unlock a skill called [Sucker Punch], a move that silenced the target for three seconds.
Only worked on enemies below Level 30, but in the early stages? That was practically broken.
He equipped both items on the spot. As strength surged through his limbs, he clenched his fists and broke into a run.
Then, as he passed a tree stump,
Akira suddenly backpedaled.
A bandit leapt out from behind a tree, sword slicing through the empty air.
The man turned his head stiffly, flashing Akira an awkward smile.
Akira returned it with a polite-yet-awkward grin.
Then slashed his throat with a kunai.
[EXP +12]
[Silver: 3]
Akira's pace quickened. He moved faster now, flickering between shadows like a phantom.
Bandits popped out one after another, only to fall, throats sliced or chests pierced by kunai.
Their screams filled the air, then faded one by one into silence.
Eventually, the remaining bandits didn't even dare breathe.
One of them huddled in fear, praying silently.
Please don't find me… Please…
Outside, all was quiet.
He cautiously raised his head, just in time to see a face peek over the rock.
"Found you."
"AAAAAHHHH!!"
Blood sprayed. Akira wiped his kunai clean and activated Byakugan.
There wasn't a single lifeform nearby.
With X-ray sight, there was no hiding from him.
The remaining bandits had fled.
"I really need to unlock a barrier technique," he muttered.
In regular games, enemies never moved unless triggered. You could farm them forever.
But not here.
Here, the monsters ran away.
CLINK!
Two kunai came flying from behind. Akira dodged with a quick tilt of his head; both embedded deep into the rock ahead.
In the sunlight, he saw the glint of metal wires attached to them.
"Fire Style! Twin Dragon Flame!"
A man with only one visible eye, his face wrapped in bandages, bit down on the wires. Fire surged from his mouth, racing along the wires toward Akira.
At the same time, a short man with metal claws leapt down from above.
So even bosses could chase you down...
His surroundings were sealed off, above, behind, ahead. He was trapped.
BOOM!
Smoke exploded outward.
A curved shield slammed down in front of him, with a rock wall backing it up.
The flames hit the shield and only managed to heat the surface red-hot. The clawed man's strike sparked off the metal.
"Where the hell did the shield come from?!"
Who brings a shield on a ninja mission?!
"Substitution Jutsu," Akira said from behind the shield.
"THAT'S a Substitution Jutsu?! Who uses a shield for Substitution?!" the short man roared.
"I used a spiked club earlier," Akira muttered back.
The small man snapped.
He charged the shield in rage.
Akira kicked it forward with both feet, sending it, and the man behind it, flying backward.
WHAM!
The shield crashed into the fire-style user. Instantly, the smell of grilled meat filled the air.
"AAAHHH!!"
The small man shoved the shield off himself, clothes already charred, skin bubbling from the burns.
"Damn kid!!"
His face twisted in fury.
But Akira looked even angrier.
"Couldn't you two have just STAYED on the mountaintop?!"
He hadn't even finished clearing the lesser mobs yet!
He still needed the rest of the Bandit Set.
So far, he'd collected four pieces, including:
[Bandit's Right Greave: +5 Movement Speed]
[Bandit's Right Gauntlet: +5 Strength]
Which meant…
Two right gauntlets.
Not like I have two right hands!
He was still missing:
• Left gauntlet
• Necklace
• Ring
Bandit bosses usually dropped armor and blades.
If these two died too early, the remaining mobs would flee.
And whose fault would that be?
Definitely not mine.
The two rogue ninja looked visibly confused.
Were they… not allowed to leave the mountain?
From their perspective, they were being ambushed, and yet this kid seemed more upset than they were.
Before they could even process it,
Akira's hands flashed.
Kunai flew once again.
Hyuga Akira: Stationary Kunai Turret, Return of the King.
The two men paled as the kunai poured down like a storm.
One drew a blade, the other spun his metal claws, desperately deflecting the blades while retreating.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Where the hell does this kid get so many kunai?!
Do they cost nothing for him?!
They dove behind a boulder and finally exhaled in relief. Though wounded, nothing vital had been hit.
But Akira's power had grown.
Even the boulder they hid behind started to crack and splinter under the onslaught.
"This kid… what kind of monster is he?!" the short man yelled, completely flustered.
"I think… he might be from the Hyuga Clan," the taller man replied hesitantly, eyeing Akira's white eyes.
He wasn't sure, just going off what he'd heard.
But those eyes definitely matched the descriptions…
That said.
No Hyuga ever fought like this.
This wasn't a damn ninja.
This was an artillery unit.
