Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Even Teammates Are Monsters

Byakugan.

The Hyuga Clan's kekkei genkai, capable of telescopic vision, X-ray sight, and battlefield awareness.

Its long-range vision made the eyes natural binoculars. Its insight let users see through objects and clearly perceive the chakra flowing through a person's body.

And since everyone in this world had chakra, even just a little, there was no escaping the Byakugan's lock-on.

If you asked Akira, the best role for a Hyuga wasn't close combat, it was sniper.

But for some reason, these maniacs all preferred melee brawls.

The enemy must be dying of laughter.

Thanks to 360-degree perception, Byakugan should've been overpowered. Of course, the Caged Bird Seal took away a single degree.

But for a long-range user?

No big deal.

Akira stood atop a fallen bandit. In one hand, five shuriken appeared instantly.

With a flick of his wrist, the blades spun out like a fan.

They vanished mid-air and reappeared embedded in five different throats.

A wave of system messages flashed before him:

[EXP +13][EXP +11][EXP +10]...

Six kills in total. Sixty-eight EXP.

Hiashi and Hizashi arrived at his back, expressions stormy as ever.

Hiashi shouted immediately, "Why didn't you follow orders?!"

His eyes darted to the spiked club lying on the ground.

That had to be a Substitution Jutsu. No way it wasn't.

But why a spiked club? Where had he even stored it?

Akira ignored him completely, striding over to pick it up. That was his substitution item, after all.

The Substitution Jutsu was normally about swapping your body with a log at the last second to confuse the enemy.

But at level 5? Akira didn't need to stick to logs anymore.

"You're being questioned!" Hiashi yelled.

Akira, utterly indifferent, began scooping up the loot.

[Silver: 8 ]

That was all the drops combined.

"So weak. They didn't even drop anything decent," he muttered, before turning to glare at the brothers.

"If you dare kill-steal from me again, I'll kill you."

Hiashi snapped. He didn't know what "kill-stealing" meant, but it sure sounded insulting. With a growl, he charged at Akira.

Hizashi hesitated, but ultimately stopped in place.

Watching from above, Tsunade shook her head. "This generation's Hyuga heir is a pain."

Mainly because of that unpredictable brat: Hyuga Akira.

Still, starting an internal brawl during a mission?

Not smart.

The clan had coddled Hiashi far too much.

If it weren't for those trademark white eyes, she'd swear that brat Akira was an Uchiha.

But now Hiashi was attacking, without activating the Caged Bird Seal.

Akira's eyes lit up.

Finally.

Hiashi's temples bulged with chakra veins. He activated Byakugan and lunged, fists flying like a storm.

Gentle Fist.

More like acupuncture than martial arts, it targeted chakra points with precision strikes.

Akira's hands blurred in response, parrying every blow.

He stood like a stone, unshaken, unmoved.

The more Hiashi attacked, the more frustrated he got.

Then he struck with a full-powered palm strike.

Akira pushed both hands forward to meet it head-on.

If that hit landed, he'd be sent flying.

BOOM!

"AAAHHH!!" a shriek of pain rang out.

But it wasn't Akira.

Hiashi had slapped full-force into the spiked club, its barbs tore straight through his hand.

Akira appeared behind him, whispering in his ear.

"You really are trash."

Before Hiashi could react, Akira pressed a finger to his temple, and knocked him unconscious.

Hizashi lunged forward in response, his hands aiming for Akira's vitals.

But Akira twisted back and dodged with a fluid backstep.

"Relax. He's still alive."

He flashed a taunting smile. He wasn't ready to defect from Konoha... yet.

The system message appeared again:

[EXP +115]

"Not bad."

Hizashi looked ready to fight, but after a stop, Akira let it go. He turned and sprinted toward the mountain stronghold.

Hizashi exhaled slowly and slung his unconscious brother over his shoulder.

He looked up at the distant silhouette of Akira disappearing into the trees, his expression conflicted.

"Hyuga Akira…"

"Is he really a genius?"

He clenched his teeth. In all his life, he'd never seen a Hyuga use Substitution Jutsu with a spiked club.

What kind of ninja even does that?!

Sure, Akira had a reputation, he'd crushed everyone in his class. Rumor said he was the Hyuga Clan's greatest prodigy.

But now Hizashi had serious doubts.

Tsunade landed beside them, clearly unimpressed.

"Fighting each other during a mission? Absolutely disgraceful."

"It was Hyuga Akira, " Hizashi started.

"Save it," Tsunade cut him off coldly.

She didn't care who started it. Hiashi's arrogant tone was already getting on her nerves.

Why had the Hyuga Clan thought throwing these three together was a good idea?

They were all handpicked by the clan, but the infighting was out of control.

Akira, of course, couldn't care less.

Honestly, he'd prefer it if they didn't catch up.

Less competition for loot.

Ahead, the second group of bandits was already in view, more than the ones he faced earlier.

"Who's there?!"

"How'd you get up here?!"

"This kid's a ninja!"

They spotted Akira lowering his body, arms stretched behind him as he dashed toward them.

But just before he reached them, he halted, and his arms swept forward.

Shuriken flew from his fingers in rapid volleys.

The first row of bandits collapsed instantly, shuriken buried in their throats.

"Enemy attack!!" a scream rang out across the hills.

But these men were facing a storm of blades.

It was like a wall of shuriken, slicing through the air in endless waves.

Throats, shoulders, chests, arms, blood sprayed from every impact.

Akira stood there like a shuriken-launching turret.

He didn't move.

Just kept throwing.

After all, he'd stocked up over ten full stacks, 99 shuriken per slot, in his inventory.

As EXP notifications filled his screen, his smile grew brighter.

His eyes suddenly flicked toward a nearby ledge, someone had jumped down from a three-meter-high drop, sword in hand.

"I've been waiting for you."

The man didn't even have time to scream before being turned into a pincushion.

This wasn't a fighting game.

This was a shooting game.
