Chapter 2 - What a Day!

Annie's Alarm was ringing rigorously, seems she was in a deep sleep due to the heavy rain that drenched her the previous day. The alarm was set for 5am and 5:30am respectively, and the alarm for 5:30 has been ringing nonstop. Finally, she hears and struggles to get up.

"Oh damn it!" She exclaimed as she put off the alarm and slept back immediately. Her interview was situated at Bronzeville in south side Chicago. She stays at Hyde park but thank goodness Hyde park and Bronzeville are close in terms of distance. Going through a straight line distance, it's about 3 miles—4.8km. When Annie decided to wake up, she checked her phone and screamed. It's already 7:39 am and her interview was scheduled for 9:30 am.

"Holy shit I'm doomed!" She exclaimed as she got up and rushed to the bathroom to take a 2 mins shower. After showering, she rushed out almost without thinking and hit her leg at the down part of her wooden wardrobe. The pain was so excruciating that she had to fall by the bed close by,—holding her leg and writhing in pain.

"Oh damn... Damn...damn it!!!."

She shouts almost crying. She tries to put her feet on the floor but it hurt so bad. Annie took a look around her room and sighed. It's a one room self con with a very small space. Truth be told, Annie had been managing and she'd been hoping for a better apartment, hence the interview she's going to. Like Sasha said, "if you can't beat them, you join them." Sasha is Annie's best friend and Annie often fights the urge to argue with Sasha. Unlike Sasha, Annie prefers to be real and not fake her lifestyle. But Sasha wouldn't buy that idea, she believed on "fake it till you make it!." Sasha's voice keeps ringing in her ears.

"Once you get to A&R, don't act like you need the Job, act like they need you. Present yourself as one of the elites, that way you can get the Job."

Annie rememberedq looking at Sasha, eyes wide. Yes, A&R has always been Annie's dream company. She had always wanted to work there, to share her unique ideas on interior decor. A&R was the talk of the town but then the common man usually don't have the opportunity to get a job offer there. It's for the elite in south side Chicago. Even with a good educational qualification, you have to know somebody that knows somebody. You have to come from their class, think like them and do things like them. How can she fit in that kind of setting? she thought to herself. After some minutes, the pain died down and Annie walked gently to her wardrobe and collected a shiny nylon from it. She remembers how Sasha had dragged her to the boutique to rent a beautiful suit combo. A well ironed white sleeve, heart shaped suit skirt that complemented her hips and a jacket to match. She unwrapped it and quickly put it on. She goes to stand in front of her mirror, the suit combo complemented her shape so well that she begans giggling.

"Thank you God for giving me an hourglass" Annie says with a huge smile on her face as she watches herself in the mirror giggling.

"Who says I'm not one of the elite? My body says it all." She turns around in a 360 admiring herself. Ten secs later she snapped out of her delusion and hurriedly picked up her make up kit and smeared make up on her face. Her intention was to look classy, too bad she almost looked like what I ordered versus what I got. At this point, Annie didn't care because she was so damn late. She picked up her bag and left the room hurriedly. Her cab man was already waiting for her outside.

"Take me to Bronzeville please"

She said, and hopped in panting.

"Okay ma'am." replied the driver who was looking at her through the mirror close to him.

The Driver, observing Annie's worried look drove faster. She realized what the driver was up to and she smiled.

"Thank you mister"

"You're welcome ma'am!".

Her cab got to Bronzeville at exactly 9:32 am. Shit! She was still 2 minutes late. She hopped out from the vehicle leaving the Driver unpaid.

"Miss, miss..." The Driver called incessantly.

Annie who was almost running turns back to look at him curiously.

"What?" She asked screaming.

"You haven't paid me!" He screamed back.

Annie realizing herself sighed in frustration and runs back to him to pay him. After paying him, the driver reversed and disappeared. Annie looked around and saw what made her heart skipped. The luxury cars! The cars where neatly parked in the parking lot. Her eyes saw her dream car. A freaking Rolls Royce phantom. She quickly removed her eyes so as not to get locked in. She was now walking very fast when she bumped into someone and fell.

"Jesus Christ! What the freaking hell!, Can you just watch where you are going?" She screamed trying to get up to see who the nuisance was.

"I'm sorry miss, you should stay focused too." He looked at her and remembers she's the same girl from the restaurant.

Annie looks at the stranger and recognizes him instantly.

"You again!" She hissed, dusts herself and walks into A&R even though she might have already missed her opportunity.

"You're late ma." The secretary looks at Annie disdainfully, picturing she must be a lowlife.

"Her outfit screams cheap" The nosy Secretary whispers to her colleague.

"Nah, I don't think so. Do you know how much her suit cost?" Her colleague whispers back.

"I know right... But her shoes doesn't fit." Seems she borrowed them. The secretary whispers back.

They both laughed almost hard but instantly controlled themselves as Annie watches them.

What is my fate ma'am? Annie asked already frustrated.

Before the secretary could respond to her, Adrian walked in majestically. They all froze at the sight of him except for Annie who was irritated by him.

"Send in the last set of the applicants so I can interview them myself." Adrian ordered.

Yes sir!" The secretary replied nodding.

Annie watched him shocked.

"Ma'am, thank your stars, we where done before. Just follow him." The secretary said as she looked at her wondering why she was lucky to be interviewed by Adrian himself.

Annie a bit confused rushes towards Adrian. What a Day! She thought to herself...
