"I think… it's worth a shot." I said to Ry and Seth, "I understand your point of views."
Ry sighed, "good. Now we won't be charging into this so blindly." Ry ran his hand through his hair and sat back with a sigh.
"We all know the plan?" I asked. They nodded.
The carriage slowed down and the attendant opened the door. Seth exited first and he turned to help me down. We waited for Ry. He exited the carriage shortly after us and we nodded in unison. We proceeded to the church and guards were stationed outside. I noticed that Seth took note of it as we passed them. We stepped inside the huge Cathedral.
The High Priest was standing towards the altar with his hands folded in prayer and his head bowed. As we approached, he turned toward us. The High Priest smiled warmingly.
"Welcome your Highness to the Holy City of Solaria." He bows, "I'm Lucas Gracefield, the High Priest of this fine Nation."
I frowned inside my head, I swear I've seen him before. Seth was tense and Ry probably was too. "It's an honor to be here." I said politely.
Lucas smiles again and walks towards us slightly, "I hope your stay was comfortable. I do apologize for the silent inconvenience on your arrival and the cycling rumors moving throughout the city. I did try my best to squash them, but as you know, they're only in fear. We don't get many visitors these days, they always seem to… leave." His gaze darkened and he turned back towards the altar, "Our god Kinnarus is a beautiful god. In their light, our land flourished, but lately, things have been quite the opposite." He bowed his head, "people are disappearing, lands are wilting, and many of our people are becoming homeless due to these factors." Lucas turned to us again, "We are here to help both of our cities and nations. I have a plausible solution."
Seth shifts and I look back at Lucas. "That is?" I asked.
"You."
"Me?" I backed up.
Seth shifted again, danger. He signals.
Lucas held out his hand, palm up, "Something is affecting our god. Some force is eating at the faith of our people. I need your power, Authority of Creation, to help our people."
"I-" I bit my lip. Something is not right.
'Don't listen to him.' a whisper appears in my head, 'this is all a lie.'
I rubbed my head, who are you?
'Don't listen to them,' It said again, 'Their words are poison.'
I gulped, "I can't."
Lucas withdraws his hand quickly, "What?!" His face fell.
He definitely wasn't expecting this response.
Lucas glares, "You wish for our nation to rot? We are the biggest supplyer to Mira technology! If we fall, so does your nation!"
I began to second guess, "Um-"
'Don't fall for it. Trust me scion of Avalorne.' the voice said, 'They lie.'
"Yes." I said, "Yes, we won't help." I said firmly the second time.
Lucas scowls, "Then die where you stand."
Darkness began to seep out from under him and Seth lunges forward, his black sword glistening in his hand. The High Priest vanishes before Seth could make contact. Guards busted in from all sides. Seth jumps back and Ry begins throwing ignis at the guards. Seth's body glowed like a faint flame. He zipped at a group of guards. I summoned my own sword and began slicing down enemies. Seth jumped off of one dead guard to another. After some time he frowned as one got back up and they almost shanked his back.
"What the?" Seth sailed up and landed on it, slicing the guard's throat. The guard crumpled and he watched it. I stabbed a guard next to me and watched with Seth. My guard ran his fingers up the blade of his sword quickly and turned, swinging it fast. An arch of condensed unda slammed into a group of guards running at Seth and they slammed into the walls of the Cathedral.
Sure enough, the supposedly dead guard got back up and Seth stabbed him again. Seth kicked the "dead" guard and raised his sword, "We can't win this fight, to the doors!" He yelled.
We began advancing toward the church entrance. Seth took the front and Ry covered the back. As we made it out, there were a bunch of guards outside.
"Terrorists!" The citizen yelled.
"Devils!"
"Kill them!"
"God of life, destroy them where they stand!"
The High Priest appears and the people knelt. "If you value your life, come join us, or suffer Eternal Paradise." His body lit up and above him a rift opened. Winged horses flew out and circled the air above us. Seth narrowed his eyes, he was calculating how to kill them.
"Any time now Kliene." Ry murmurs, "Use your Authority."
I splutter, "I can't. I've been trying to, this whole fight, but Avalorne hasn't responded."
"So… he responded when you asked to blast me into the sky yesterday?" Ry gapes.
"Yes."
"That's a load of BALONEY!" Ry yells.
Seth blinks, "uh guys, they are descending." Seth tackled me out of the way as one swooped down just over our heads. Seth shot up and swung his sword, missing. His sword turned into an arrow and his bracelet turned into his black bow. He notched the arrow and aimed. "Stupid birds." The tip of his arrow lit up with Unda. He lets it fly. It sailed at one of the pegasi and followed it as it tried shaking it off. As usual, it found its mark and the pegasus disintegrated.
Ry shouts, "Seth the guards!"
Seth turned and the guards from inside the cathedral were walking out. Seth yells, "Gods!" He growls and his aura flares, he glances at the High Priest, "We're going to die here!"
I'm trusting… but we are going to die! Good grief, oh mysterious voice! HELP! I turned to Ry who was fending off guards that were coming from the Cathedral. I glanced back at Seth and jumped. He was crackling with Fulminus, lightning, and that was not normal. Seth was blocking an attack from the High Priest and he was skidding slowly back. He glanced at me once then grit his teeth. Seth hissed and something leaped from his body as he directed the blast upward into the sky and it shot up exploding high above us. A draconic roar was heard.
Lightning forked the sky in vibrant colors and thunder clouds quickly formed. A huge shadow moved behind the clouds and Seth winced a bit before collapsing. I ran up to him and grabbed Seth, moving us back towards Ry. I noticed quickly that everyone stopped fighting and was fixated on the sky. The shadow moved like it was circling prey.
The High Priest growled and yelled, "Shoot it down!"
The Aetherials of the Church began throwing blasts into the sky, aiming at the object in the sky. The unknown entity swerved and it broke through the clouds, it was a divine water dragon, belonging to the lost nation of Astoria. These dragons were extinct and only known by reading ancient scrolls or word of mouth. Its long body coiled and uncoiled, making circles in the gray sky. This dragon was much larger in size than the other dragons of Astoria. This dragon must be a high ranked dragon. Lightning forked in violet and blue. It opened its jaws and let out a huge shriek of rage.
The High Priest flinched and backed up, "Astoria's Sovereign!"
I froze, Astoria's Sovereign? That title belonged to an Ancient god of this world. They disappeared ages ago beyond the skies. Why are they back now? I looked up at the dragon in the sky and it was staring down at us ready to pass judgement.
"Great gods!" a guard yells.
"A-Astoria Dragon!" Another one crouched down bowing.
The people of the Holy City followed suit.
The dragon's eyes passed over us slowly and it slowly flew back up. Tornado clouds began to form. Looks like this didn't please the dragon.
"■■■■■■■■!" The High Priest yelled again, "You decide to show your face now? You abandoned this word ages ago and now you come back to judge us?!"
The dragon shrieked again and tornadoes began to descend. It's going to kill us all!! I looked at Ry and he shook his head, he looked like he also had the same thought. The tornadoes made contact with the ground and they began to swirl quickly in speed. In a matter of seconds they would whip us up and we would be dead.
'What a predicament you are all in, hold on.' the voice sounded in my head. A bright light flashed around us and once it dimmed we were in a grove.
'That's better.' the voice sounded behind us.
I turned quickly and jumped, Lucas?! I narrowed my eyes and passed Seth off to Ry, "YOU!" I ran at the High Priest but he threw his hands out and I slammed into a barrier, "Lucas!" I shouted.
'Chill, relax! I'm not who you think I am! Plus, I'm in totally different clothes than that imposter!' Lucas yells. 'I'm also occupying this body, so if you don't mind, try not to injure this poor boy.' The platinum blond haired male lowered his hands. His teal eyes were full of grief, 'Your friend here seems to be full of surprises.' Lucas walks over to Seth, he knelt, 'An Halosis with two elemental powers…' Lucas picked up Seth and frowned, 'Hmm? So you didn't even know yourself. Wow, keeping so many secrets.'
I looked at Lucas in question, "What do you mean?" I asked.
Lucas looked at me and smiled, 'I just tapped into his future, destiny, fate, pick the word you like. Your friend here is very special… and in due time you'll unravel the truths along with him. Due to his wish, I'm unable to tell you the full details.' Lucas says and sets Seth back down.
"Are you by chance a god?" I asked softly.
'I… was.' Lucas sighs, 'I was once Solaria's god. I'm long forgotten, just like Luminark, the god that created the divine rules of this very world. He now descends once again to rewrite all of the wrongs of this world.'
"He would have killed us if it wasn't for you." I said as the ground shook.
'Solaria will receive his wrath. His next target though… who knows. Solaria worships a false god, the dragon probably sees this as a sin.' Lucas looks at me.
A false god? I looked at Lucas, "I never knew." I said.
'You did at one point Kliene, they all did, until that false god had enough power to rewrite memories.' Lucas turned and walked back to me. 'That false god will try to combat Luminark's rage, but it will only be in vain.'
I looked at Seth, "Is he going to be alright?"
Lucas smiles softly, 'In due time, he'll wake up.'
