Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

Valen laid on the bed filled with sweat, her body shivering, healers running all over the place trying to find something to heal her.

King Kaelvryn grabbed Lord Valor by the collar, "this is your fault, if anything happens to him...your title would be the least of your problems."

Lord Valor gently removed King Kaelvryn hands off his collar and patted him calmly, "your Majesty, please calm down, we have the best healers in the whole realm and I know that they would save your guard."

King Kaelvry wasn't having it and kept barking orders, every one were on their toes trying their best to find a cure Valen.

"We found it..." one of the healers yelled out loud bringing attention to them.

"He was poisoned by a rare flower Oleander, we need to act fast," the older healer spoke softly.

"I don't give a bloody damn about what he was poisoned with, all I want is for him to be on his two feet immediately," Kaelvryn roared.

The room shook with how loud his voice was, the healers bowed and scrambled to get the appropriate herbs to help with the mixture.

Then the healers started whispering causing the king to get more agitated, "what's now the fucking problem?"

The older healers gulped then faced the king, "Your Majesty, we need...your blood for the herbs to be effi-"

The healer didn't even finish his words before the king cut up his hand and placed his blood into the herb bowl.

"Do what you need to do," his voice now was even calm causing confusion amongst everyone, how could he raging everywhere but now is as calm as ever.

The healers quickly went to work and the king with the other council room left the room.

"Your Majesty, you need to attend to your wound," Lord Valor spoke up gently.

King Kaelvryn shot him a nasty look and raised his hand, "what wound?" His hand had closed up, "it seems you have forgotten who your King is."

"I want every council member at the meeting room now and gather up the guards," King Kaelvryn informed Aldridge who was nearby.

"Yes, your Majesty," he bowed and left.

King Kaelvryn marched to his throne room, each step filled with fury and every one knew better than to mess with him now.

The council members kept muttering what could prompt such a meeting without quick information, while guards formed in the middle of the room.

"I expect to hear good news..." King Kaelvryn roared with his eyes flickering red with rage.

One of the guards bowed then threw out a badly beaten wolf, "Your Majesty, we found someone trying to escape towards the west boarder lines that leads to the white crest pack but judging by his looks he is a rogue."

King Kaelvryn lowered his face to get a good look at the rogue who seemed and looked a little too calm for someone who was currently being accused of a crime.

"Rogue..." King Kaelvryn's voice was quite calm then he titled his head when the wolf didn't meet his eyes.

"Look at me," he said, his voice deep and getting darker, the rogue still refused to look him in the eye then the guard raised his face and met the eye's of Kaelvryn which had changed colors from crimson red to gold.

The rogue started muttering inaudible words then finally he placed his hand on his neck and started strangling himself, this sight caused the room to go into murmuring.

"I'm not going to ask twice...who sent you?" King Kaelvryn said calmly but the rogue wolf wasn't budging but he only smiled.

He tilted his head to side, his eye's colors changed again from golden to hint of silver that looked like stars.

The rogue wolf kept strangling his neck, "Your Majesty, the more he strangles himself we won't be able to get the truth from him," Lord Valor finally spoke up.

King Kaelvryn smirked then released his trance from the rogue, the wolf gasped for breath, "I'll deal with him later..." he looked at the guards, "take him to the east dungeon and strength the men on every boarder, tighten the parol units and curfew is now 11 moon time."

The guards bowed and left, as the King was about sitting on his throne, the older healer ran into the room with heavy breaths.

"Your Majesty...he's awake..."

King Kaelvryn hurried and went straight to the healer's wing.

Valen looked pale but she shined brightly with the smile she wore on her face, her hand was properly attended to and her face that had been cut previously had also been attended to.

"Your Majesty..." everyone bowed at his entrance, even Valen wanted to stand but King Kaelvryn raised his hand and Valen sat back down.

"Leave us..." King Kaelvryn said calmly and everyone left the wing immediately.

The room was silent a bit, King Kaelvryn kept staring at the bandage wound, "it doesn't hurt, your majesty, as long as you're okay then I'm okay."

King Kaelvryn raised his gaze and meet Valen's crystal icy blue eyes, and her heart literally skipped a beat, why was she having this feeling for him?

"You may be my personal bodyguard but don't be that stupid when trying to protect me." King Kaelvryn spoke without thinking of his choice of words.

The words got to her but she said nothing, only smiled and bowed, "I'll do better."

The room went back to being silent, thick with tension, Valen's palm started becoming sweaty, not knowing what to say or do.

Why was the King even here? The thoughts swirled through her mind, he could have just sent someone to check up on her but him being here just felt...weird.

"We caught the rogue who did this..." King Kaelvryn finally spoke up breaking the thick silence again.

"Rogue?" Valen asked, "I don't think a rogue was the perpetrator, accomplice...yes but with such skills, it was definitely a highly trained wolf."

King Kaelvryn looked at Valen for a while, Valen honestly thought she had done something to piss the King because of how silent he was.

Then King Kaelvryn laughed, a calm one and Valen was quite taken aback from it, she had just heard the supposed mad King laugh.

Was he amused by what she said? Or was there something else that made him laugh? Or was this one of his mad episodes?

No one knew.

"Now this is why I chose you," he spoke gently.

Valen blinked...confused, "your Majesty, I don't understand what you mean."

"Simple terms, someone in the council is trying to take me out and will soon try to clean up their tracks."

Now Valen understood why he wanted to be alone with her, "but who do you think would do such? Wouldn't that be treason?"

King Kaelvryn chuckled, "you really don't know anything about politics, do you?"

Valen had a clear knowledge because of her father but she presumed her pack were just too close for them to commit such act.

"I apologize for my incompetence concerning politics, your majesty," she bowed.

King Kaelvryn waved his hand, "your job right now is to spy on every one, from council members to the guards, generals, maids, healers, leave no stone unturned, do you understand that?"

"Yes...your majesty," Valen bowed.

King Kaelvryn took one more good look at her then left the wing, Valen let out a sigh of relief and took a good look at her hand and her mind solely went to one person who looked the most suspicious.

Lord Valor.
