Chapter 3 - Library

Returning to reality, Fulen decided he should first try out the Apprentice acting method. After all, when it came to acting out the Apprentice to Door Pathway, Fulen had no method for acting out this Pathway, except for a few Sequences.

Suddenly, Fulen thought of a possibility, he had transmigrated to the same era as Klein, and he was also a "thrower" from Sefirah Castle. As Fulen thought of this, he immediately felt that such a possibility existed. Even if there was a one-in-ten-thousand chance, for Fulen, the outcome would be different; his promotion plan could be completely overturned and restarted.

So, Fulen, disregarding his disheveled appearance, rushed to the kitchen, his face flushed with a slight blush from anticipation.

Upon reaching the kitchen, Fulen suddenly composed himself, a happy smile on his face due to his speculation. He told himself inwardly, "Don't expect too much, stay calm."

Thus, in an alternating state of joy and rationality telling him to stay calm, Fulen found four local Trier staples-Trier Golden Bread, a bread famous throughout the North Continent for its golden color and crispy crust.

Carrying the four Trier Golden Breads, Fulen returned to his bedroom and drew the curtains. The sunlight, forcing its way through the curtains into the room, illuminated Fulen's face with a radiant glow.

After placing the four Trier Golden Breads in the four corners of the bedroom, Fulen waited a few minutes for his emotions to settle, then began the ritual from the center of the room.

"The Immortal Lord of Heaven and Earth for Blessings;" Fulen took the first step with a solemn expression.

"The Sky Lord of Heaven and Earth for Blessings." Fulen immediately took the next step.

"The Exalted Thearch of Heaven and Earth for Blessings." Fulen took the third step with an even more solemn expression.

"The Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for Blessings." Fulen exhaled a breath that seemed to have been suppressed in his heart and took the fourth step.

After completing the ritual of return, Fulen closed his eyes and waited, but three minutes passed, and nothing happened.

Seeing this, Fulen sighed, "After all, I expected too much." He chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Alas, if I think about it, I knew it. Anyone connected to Sefirah Castle has an item that can connect to Sefirah Castle. Rosell had a deck of cards, Klein had a luck enhancement ritual, and I don't know what the Evernight had, but I have nothing."

Fulen closed his eyes, then remembered the current matter. The most important thing now was to act as an "Apprentice."

And in Trier, if one wanted to learn new knowledge, the best place to go was Trier's landmark building, the Trier National Library.

Fulen did not hesitate. After re-exploring the room he had explored yesterday, he took the money he might need and essential items, then left his home.

Trier's architectural style was quite representative of Intis architecture. Thus, Fulen saw bustling streets with elaborately decorated streetlights on both sides. The golden color scheme made Intis's architectural style unique, prosperous yet not ostentatious.

The roads in Trier were not very smooth, but every place had a rich district, and the wealth of the rich district far exceeded the era of the region, and Gold Hansdon District was no exception.

Although the area of Trier's slums was astonishing, and the filth and disorder within them were appalling, several noble and rich districts were magnificent. Outsiders often marvelled at the city's prosperity, but only by going to the commoner districts or even the slums could one see the city's future.

Fulen hailed a four-wheeled carriage. After the coachman slowly stopped the carriage, he got in and said, "Please take me to the Trier National Library, thank you."

As the carriage slowly started, Fulen recalled the Trier National Library from his memories, the jewel of Trier, the pride of the Intis Republic, one of the largest libraries in the world. The other was in Lenburg, the Lenburg's Light of Knowledge Library.

One library was built and maintained with the help of the God of Steam and Machinery Church, and the other was co-built by Lenburg and the god of knowledge and wisdom. Among them, the Trier National Library was mainly a treasure trove of general knowledge, while the Light of Knowledge Library was mainly a gathering place for profound knowledge and documents.

In this Steam Age, many epoch-making theorems and inventions were inseparable from these two places.

There was only one requirement for entering the Trier National Library, one could not be too dirty. For books that focused on cleanliness, the act of damaging books due to reading was regrettable and infuriating. However, if one was merely poor but not overly repulsive, the priests of Steam would usually allow the poor to enter. Unfortunately, many poor people struggled even to survive, so they had no time to come here.

Knowledge is precious, yet also cheap. So precious that it is hard to obtain even with a thousand gold, yet so cheap that people discard it like worn-out shoes.

The exterior of the Trier National Library was not as dazzling as the surrounding opulent buildings; instead, it was pure white. But this did not mean that followers of the Eternal Blazing Sun would dislike this place. On the contrary, the Trier National Library was jointly established by the Eternal Blazing Sun and the Steam Church, pure white was also one of the colors favored by the Eternal Blazing Sun.

The coachman was very clever; he took a detour, not because the journey could earn him more money. In fact, now they charged by time, and it only took 1-2 hours to get from Gold Hansdon District to Hopetown District, calculated as 2 hours.

The coachman took a route that completely avoided the slums, and even the commoner districts. Hopetown District was located between the wealthy Heink District and the commoner Winston District. The library's hope was for the rich and poor to share knowledge simultaneously and change their destinies.

After all, one of the God of Steam's doctrines was: "God said, let him who strives be strong." And knowledge was one of the powers favored by the God of Steam. Although, only one in a thousand, or even one in ten thousand, changed their destiny through the library.

Soon, the carriage arrived at Hopetown District. The bricks on the ground here were clearly not as luxurious as in the previous area, but they were still tidy, and the drainage system was not bad, so there was no smell of urine or other excrement found in current commoner districts. As for the slums, it was no longer a matter of smell; if you looked at the ground, you couldn't even tell where the smell was coming from, because you couldn't even make out what the coverings on the ground were anymore.

The pure white building felt quite bright. It was clearly a very common large-scale building, yet its abnormal whiteness inspired awe; white is the easiest to contaminate, and maintaining pure white is awe-inspiring, but also unsettling. Of course, this would only be seen as a divine miracle by believers.

After handing the coachman about 6 verl d'or, Fulen said, "Keep the change." Then he walked straight into the library, thinking, "Carriage rides are currently only for the upper-middle class. 6 verl d'or is unaffordable for any middle-class person."

The library's entry policy was quite lenient. After a quick and discreet glance from the doorman, he abandoned the idea of preventing Fulen from entering.

Thus, Fulen entered this awe-inspiring library.
