Gideon kept hearing the mechanical voice ringing inside his head before his eyes gradually rolled open.

Before him was the translucent screen floating midair, with the words he had just heard in his mind in text form displayed across the screen. Neither did Gideon understand what it meant.

Gideon gently stood from the ground, but where he was currently was a fundamentally different place, a deep and dense forest, a place he had never been before.

He stared across his body and saw debris of dust; his shirt looked like it was already decaying, as if it had been buried in dirt for years.

"Where am I?" Gideon wondered, but all he heard was blank silence from himself. He sighed; he wished could get an answer. Everything was getting so confusing to him.

He knew he was dead minutes ago when the bullet passed through his head. The most bewildered thing about everything that had occurred was how he had survived a bullet to the head.

Gideon walked for more than two hours before finally reaching a roadside, and luckily he saw a car coming towards him at high speed from a distance.

He waved at the car desperately calling for help, and when the car got close, it stopped.

A woman looking old in her 60s walked out of the car. At first, she thought Gideon was a zombie due to how decayed his clothes were, but when she observed him deeply, she discovered he was just an ordinary person.

"Please help me, I don't know where I am," Gideon begged before finally falling to the ground out of dizziness and stress.

The woman helped Gideon into her car and drove him to her house, which wasn't far from where she had seen him. She laid him on the bed and gave him some medication, and while at it, she noticed his body rejecting the medication as if it had its own mechanism to resolve any problems in his body. This scene proves something extraordinary.

After a few hours, Gideon woke up from sleep, his clothes fully changed into a new one, and this startled him.

He stood up from the bed he was lying on, but was still startled as to where he was. The last thing he could remember was fainting while waving at a car, and now he's in a house?

Just then the woman who had helped him earlier came into the room.

"Ooh, you are awake." She gently said before dropping freshly prepared meals and some herbs in liquid form on the desk beside Gideon.

"Please, you have to sit back on the bed so you can eat something. The reason you passed out was that you were exhausted. You need something to eat so your body can replenish its strength."

Gideon could feel himself getting hungry, but the urge to eat wasn't coming, though he had noticed that the woman was a kind woman for picking him up in the middle of nowhere.

Gideon gently sat on the bed. "Thank you for helping me."

The woman smiled softly before replying, "no, it's nothing. I can't just leave you in the middle of nowhere just like that. I'm not a bad person. Anyways, my name is Jane."

Gideon smiled back before asking. "Thank you for helping me Jane, please where is this place?"

"You are at the Greenville Forest," she replied.

"Greenville Forest, you say?" Gideon's eyes slightly widened. He had heard of the Greenville forest; it was the place where the lab where the experiment leakage occurred before spreading across the city, though this reaction didn't affect animals or plants around the forest, only humans, who were exposed to it at its early stage, when it spread.

The woman then urged Gideon to eat, or his body would fail and collapse again.

Gideon picked up the spoon and began eating, though he cared less. If the woman would have wanted to poison him, then she could have done that hours ago or could have left him for dead when he waved at her approaching car.

While Gideon was eating, the woman suddenly asked. "Your clothes, they look like they've been buried under the dirt for years, hehe, at first I thought you were some sort of zombie."

The woman laughed. She was startled about his clothes. She noticed how rumpled and decaying they were. Without a doubt, she knew the clothes had been under the ground for a long time. And she wondered why it was worn by him, or could he have been under the ground for as long as the clothes were?

Gideon took a deep breath. He wished he could explain to the woman what had happened. Even he didn't know how he had survived. The last thing he remembered was a bullet passing through his skull.

"I can't really tell you what happened, ma'am." He then stood from the bed he was seated on. "Ma'am I want to request something, if you don't mind."

Jane then smiled before chuckling. "Of course you can ask."

"Please, I will need to borrow your truck to get to the city," Gideon requested.

Jane chuckled doubtfully before replying. "Okay, ummm, though that's the only car I have, so please, once you are done, can you please return it?"

"Yes for sure, ma'am, I will return it." Gideon agreed.

The old woman gave him the key to the truck, and so he rode away. While driving, he kept wondering why a woman of her age would be living alone in a thick forest like the Greenville, but though Gideon didn't think much about it, all he wanted currently was to get to his office and report on what had happened, though he did not know how long he had been away.

"Could it be that, after he shot me, he threw my body to decay in the forest," Gideon wondered aloud. "And the voice and the translucent screen hovering above me at Will, what is it about?"

Gideon was startled as to every single thing that happened to him at the moment. But what he had in his mind now was to make sure he got to the police headquarters and informed them about what had happened.

Within a few hours, Gideon was out of the forest axis, and after another hour's drive, he finally got to the headquarters. He stepped down from the car and walked straight into the building. His colleagues stared at him with disbelief, though Gideon was wearing only pajamas.

When he got to his office, he saw Clara seated in his chair; she was already appointed as the new officer occupying his rank. The moment she saw him, her jaw dropped.

"How… How… How are you still alive?" Her face went pale as she spoke.

Gideon walked forward. "Why do you look so pale? What had happened when I was away?" He then stared at the star on her police uniform. "And it seems you have occupied my office."

"You have been dead for three years; we saw your body, we mourn you. How are you still alive, or did you wake up from the grave?" Clara finally said what was on her mind, her body already trembling from the wave of disbelief gnawing at her.
